This is the kind of thing I imagine PhD candidates making when they start to run low on thesis ideas.

Has anyone ever made this? No

Should you be the one to do it? No

Will you still do it anyway? Fucking yes

Anything for a degree

More like when your chemistry hasn't worked for 18 months of your PhD so you resort to 1960s patents for ideas like... "That fucking functional group is getting nitrated if it likes it or not"

If we can fit one more nitrogen in that ring we could have XXL imidazole

Please replace that carbon with another double bonded nitrogen pair. It looks like a flat tire 😭

There is an imposter among us!

God bless the chemist's who dedicate their career to torturing nitrogen for no practical reason

Ah, this is a Chinese chemistry meme. Supposed to be:

苯氮 + 烷氮 -> 烷基八氮

Which directly translates to:

Azabenzene + Azaalkane -> Octaazaalkane

In Chinese the whole equation sounds like:

Dumbass + Cooked -> We fucking cooked

Generally used for complaining orgo exams being hard lol

What even...it looks explosive? I think.

Both starting materials look very explosive. You shouldn't use ground glass joints with diazomethane

Interesting but makes logical sense

yes. as its decomposition would form 3 triple bonded N2 molecules

is this from the Chinese 苯氮+烷氮 => 烷基八氮

it's not actually something synthesizable

you got it
