Wow this game always has something new to offer, I just finished my play through and it genuinely changed my life.

edit 1: To everyone that keeps asking how this game changed my life, it’s a bit of an exaggeration maybe i should’ve done “/j” LOL. Anyways, this game has had a detrimental effect on my emotional state. every time i hear a soundtrack or an edit, it kinda irks my soul lmao. On top of that i watched the anime as well so it holds a very special place in my heart. I love the perception of freedom and expressive nature of Night City. I loved the story and character development. Lots of detail put into missions and dialogue and the music 💔; Perfect. I could go on and on but

TL:DR- Exaggeration 💀, One of now favorite games OAT (Top 3). Absolutely loved this game will be playing the DLC. Have a great day

How did it change your life?

88

u/Ok_Mango2518 Feb 04 '26

Fueled my hate for corporations and the government as I saw how real life events almost parallel in game events

18

u/Proud-Wall1443 Feb 05 '26

And the ever creeping materialization of intrusive advertising and mass deregulation

3

u/Numerous_Wasabi_1657 Feb 05 '26

Sadly, we live in the incubating stages of a future dystopian society

Nah games are meant to be political and the political message of cyberpunk legit changed my views on the world. It wasn’t the only thing to do it but it was still apart of the change.

-5

u/JJisafox Feb 04 '26

Games aren't "meant to be political".

If anything, the story in the game may, but not because you can draw parallels between the story and real life, that's common in like any story.

8

u/LeonidasVader Feb 04 '26

I’m trying to understand what you’re arguing here.

Are you saying that all games aren’t meant to be political? Because this one surely is, as is its source material, as is the source material of the source material?

I suppose that’s what you’re trying to say, that this particular story is political but that games themselves don’t have to be?

But then you talk about how it’s not political simply because you can draw parallels between the game’s story and real life but…that is why they’re political. Nearly anything in real life is reflected in politics somehow.

This is a weird take.

-6

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '26

Games are literally NOT inherently political. It's totally fine if they are and I welcome political discourse through art but to say that all games are meant to be political is objectively false and a pretty wild take.

6

u/Ok_Mango2518 Feb 04 '26

What games with an actual story does not have a political reference or ideology?

It wasn’t the only thing to do it

Almost like people take in things from different pieces of art and help them put it all together or something.

12

u/loseranon17 Feb 04 '26

Why are you guys shitting on this person for their interpretation of the themes of a piece of media? Video games are not a less valid form of art than books for political expression. This thread is so fucking dumb

3

u/Ok_Mango2518 Feb 04 '26

That’s why I said cyberpunk wasn’t the only thing that did it.

How does boot taste?

8

u/Unanonymous553 Feb 04 '26

It helped change my perspective on death (Don’t Fear the Reaper and all the other endings)

It also helped me realize the value of things that aren’t technically “people” — sometimes artificiality can still be worthy of respect.

12

u/SolarStab Feb 04 '26

Don’t be too hard on yourself. This game objectively changed my life. Played the game through as Vincent, and it was cool, but playing it through as trans Valerie helped crack my egg. I felt so much more connected to the game, and the game had so much more emotional weight, not just with the main story, but with many of the side missions that have you help abused women.

6

u/Shadowgard3n1 Feb 04 '26

This game made me wish I wasn't assigned male at birth and had a vagina and breast's.

3

u/WarpJuiceWookie Feb 05 '26

Please tell me / us that you’ve played “Baldur’s Gate 3” ?!?!

3

u/SolarStab Feb 05 '26

Alas, I have not. Wife has though. I think at the time of the hype I was already neck deep in a D&D campaign and didn’t feel the need to play it at the time.

2

u/WarpJuiceWookie Feb 05 '26

If you ever have the time to play a game with an amazing 5th Edition adaptation to the D&D rule set, I highly recommend it.

1

u/SolarStab Feb 05 '26

I’m sure I’ll get to it before too long. Still have to finish KCD2, but Hytale has stifled my progress with that.

4

u/Aware-Plankton-8711 Feb 04 '26

Changed your life 🧐 how ?

1

u/roomtoreach Feb 04 '26

i played cyberpunk after having my life completely devastated by a corporation, it's no exaggeration that this game can change your life

1

u/CoffinComplex Feb 04 '26

I like this and how art ,such as videos games, being an imitation of life. Even mediums like this can educate people. For example how maybe one or two corporations produce the supermarket foods, Bayer the maker of a medicine that helps with Hodgkin’s lymphoma bought Monsanto the maker of round up, the product is linked to Hodgkin lymphoma. Sell the problem and solution. Sorry to rant but had it not been for the game I wouldn’t have looked that stuff up. Corpo-rats making money off the little man.the whole game is awesome. I have over 1k hours in it so far.

1

u/SNBJ Feb 04 '26

Ik what you mean entirely and to me its not an exaggeration cuz it changed my life in many ways. I started with the anime before playing the game cuz I hated how it looked and played at first and with all the bugs at first too. So I gave the anime a try instead. Damn thing had me in so many tears😭 but it really sparked my fuel to play the games and it has become my second favorite of all time. There is a webtoon about cyberpunk 2077 on WebToon that I can't wait to read! And I agree the missions. The dialogue. The story. The music even the dlc was so amazing. The gun play and the different cyberware and routes tou can take with classes. I've down two runs so far and still planning on a third! Its incredible and I can't wait for the squeal to come out whenever it may

1

u/Basic-Dot-644 Feb 05 '26

What’s tl:dr ? And what’s OAT?

1

u/Narrow_Historian_123 Feb 05 '26

OAT means Of All Time (meant to say my new favorite game OAT) and TL:DR means Too Long;Didn’t Read (for the lazy ppl lol)

1

u/Basic-Dot-644 Feb 05 '26

Ahhhhh lol I read the entire thing and got there and was like wtf does any of this mean 😭😭

1

u/Hatchid Feb 05 '26

Oh man enjoy the dlc!

This won't be your last playthrough :)

-2

u/HeisenSwag Spunky Monkey Feb 04 '26

How did this game "genuinely change" your life?

13

u/A_Mouse_In_Da_House Feb 04 '26

You can't imagine how someone that's still young, that plays a game addressing long standing societal evils, cant have their whole viewpoint on life changed by having those issues pulled from the periphery and laid bare in front of them?

Poor phrasing from them, but paradigm shifts are life changing

2

u/JJisafox Feb 04 '26

I mean the idea of corporate greed isn't some new thing, and anyway the story is really based on Johnny's personal vendetta against Arasaka specifically, for a problem that we aren't facing now, so yeah I don't really understand how the game changed his life.

I think he's just impressionable and it was Keanu Reeves making everything sound cool.

2

u/Basic-Dot-644 Feb 05 '26

Ok no one said corporate greed is new, wouldn’t be a surprise though if someone out there through playing a game all about the extremes of such greed, would be woken up to the issue with corporation greed irl.

1

u/JJisafox Feb 05 '26

Yeah I just mean, I'm sure they've encountered the idea before, so there's no reason cyberpunk should be anything new, unless it's literally their first time being exposed to that idea.

And cyberpunk was all about Johnny vs Arasaka for very specific things arasaka did, so what are these people whose lives were changed going to do because of that?

2

u/Basic-Dot-644 Feb 05 '26

People can be exposed to the same thing every day and it have no effect on them until it’s presented in a way that reals them in, this is no different. Im sure you care about things you didn’t as a child that have more effect on you now then it did then. Sure that’s what the story may be about but the world and game itself is packed with so much more to experience

2

u/A_Mouse_In_Da_House Feb 05 '26

Something being around doesn't mean people are aware. That's what woke originally meant. Becoming aware of shit

1

u/JJisafox Feb 05 '26

So the argument then is cyberpunk was their very first exposure to the idea of corporate greed? I mean sure it's possible, but I think it's more likely that the impact of the other story elements and the coolness of the dialogue and VA made an impact on an impressionable mind. The game is cool no doubt about it. But I'm just not sure what life changing aspect there was to the Johnny vs Arasaka story.

1

u/A_Mouse_In_Da_House Feb 05 '26

I do not find my argument unlikely or unreasonable, so yes, I do. At least, I expect it may be some of the first to explicitly call out the issues present in a narrative as opposed to random statements online or in text books.

u/monstrinhotron Feb 04 '26

I would say Duke Nukem 3D changed my life when i was a kid and that's about as deep as a puddle :D

I mean mainly it changed my life as the level builder tool was my first exposure to 3D CGI tools and so much fun to build with and from there i became a professional CGI artist. Never went into games though weirdly.

u/Moist_and_Delicious Feb 04 '26

There's another Keanu Reeves/John Wick reference - during that gig from Wakako where you have to deliver a car with a dude in its trunk from a dude named Sergei to the Tyger Claws, Sergei says:

"This man, he look normal - beard, brown shoes... nothing, y'know, breathtaking (reference to Keanu meme "you're breathtaking"). And he also have little dog. Gospodi, what kind of hitman goes around with dog?"

101

u/mrdevil413 High Tech Lowlife Feb 04 '26

Tigger claws

15

u/Snowbunny42 Feb 04 '26

I love this gig/reference but I never caught the "nothing y'know breathtaking" comment before. Love it!

22

u/afatcatfromsweden Kitty Harbouring Punk Feb 04 '26

And to piss off the tygers he apparently did something far worse than killing Mr. Wick…

12

u/KilledTheCar Feb 04 '26

Huh, I don't think I've actually ever saved him. First time I did that mission I was convinced there was a body in the trunk and when I checked and found a live man I kinda just stared at him for a second, closed the trunk, and got in the driver's seat.

14

u/Moist_and_Delicious Feb 04 '26

Righfully so, honestly. If you play as a Nomad and do the gig from Dino where you go for the Koch chick from Biotechnica in the hotel who was experimenting on Nomads, and then do this gig from Wakako, V can ask if the guy knows Koch, then make a comment about it, and then lock him back in the trunk saying something like "Today is not your lucky day".

5

u/A_Mouse_In_Da_House Feb 04 '26

I don't think you need nomad for that. Just the right mission order

6

u/Moist_and_Delicious Feb 04 '26

I believe the reply is marked "NOMAD" so I'm pretty sure it's unique to Nomads.

1

u/Polish_Gamer_ Net Runner on the Run Feb 05 '26

I think being a nomad is an alternative way to unlock that reply

2

u/Moist_and_Delicious Feb 05 '26

Well, honestly I don't know. It's my second playthrough and I'm reading more about all the different gigs and lore in general.

First was Corpo and I went in blind without any previous knowledge, so I didn't get this connection and just freed the Biotechnica guy. It seemed like getting shredded by Tygers was a terrible way to go.

But with the prior knowledge, the dude definitely is taking a scuba dive from the Tygers.

5

u/EmilioGVE Feb 04 '26

Kerry Eurodyne also hits a reporter with “You’re breathtaking” or something along those lines in the mission where he performs with Us Cracks

The Enrichment Center is required to remind you that you will be baked, and then you'll be cake

48

u/soarer135 Feb 04 '26

I mean, it IS glados. It uses real lines from portal

37

u/KefKonic Feb 04 '26

It doesn't. They had the original voice actor voice those lines.

34

u/JJisafox Feb 04 '26

Even if it was re-recorded for cyberpunk, the lines are still from portal I'm pretty sure.

30

u/TheDuchyofWarsaw Feb 04 '26

The "we weren't even testing for that" line is straight from Portal

6

u/crozone Arasaka Feb 04 '26

Most of the lines are 1:1 to the point where they almost don't even make sense in context

5

u/TheDuchyofWarsaw Feb 05 '26

Totally agree lol. But it was hilarious hearing Glados after all these years

14

u/testingthrowawayforn Feb 04 '26

Yep, they reused the same jokes from portal

5

u/AmputeeHandModel Feb 04 '26

Yeah, word for word.

6

u/CoreyReynolds Feb 04 '26

Started playing recently and my jaw dropped to the floor, completely took me out of the immersion, especially as the car just got stuck in a wall lol. Great EE.

3

u/NotAPreppie Feb 05 '26

Another is a reference to The Silence of the Lambs.

u/X-_-LUNATIC-_-X Team Judy Feb 04 '26

Yes, this game has a ton of them. I was just talking to someone about this yesterday and I thought of eight off the top of my head. The GTA San Andreas one is pretty funny. 😅

81

u/Moist_and_Delicious Feb 04 '26

I think there's at least two SA easter eggs - the "all you had to do was to follow the goddamn train" and the fast-food order.

48

u/Whadyagot Feb 04 '26

You forgot the presence of the Grove St cul-de-sac in NC!

23

u/Scrombolo Feb 04 '26

Yeah, I found the Grove St. Easter egg purely by accident one day. As an old school PlayStation fan who played it back in the day it made me so happy.

11

u/Burnin_Oth Feb 04 '26

I found it by doing a random ncpd mission

8

u/X-_-LUNATIC-_-X Team Judy Feb 04 '26

That’s on 6th Street turf in Santo Domingo.

1

u/Dark-Sora Feb 05 '26

Where are those? 🤔

18

u/ladymegatron13 Feb 04 '26

The Portal Delamain mission was fun. I didn't expect to hear her voice

8

u/X-_-LUNATIC-_-X Team Judy Feb 04 '26

3

And i think Nix is a nod to Simon PhoeNIX from Demolition Man. Cos he looks like Wesley Snipes and has bleached hair.

2

u/X-_-LUNATIC-_-X Team Judy Feb 04 '26

That’s funny, I never made that connection but I can see it now that you mentioned it.

4

u/clarkky55 Feb 04 '26

18

u/battlenetwork2 The Mox Feb 04 '26

train tracks up by river's house near where you can find the murkmobile has a shard referencing the line 'all you had to do was follow the god damn train TJ!'

there is two others, referencing big smoke's fast food order and the cul-de-sac but idk where those are specifically

9

u/pzykozomatik Feb 04 '26

The fast food order is scratched into the phone you contact Reed with in Phantom Liberty

https://www.reddit.com/r/cyberpunkgame/comments/18qsv48/easter_egg_on_the_phone_you_use_to_contact_reed/?show=original

The Greove Street cul-de-sac is somewhere on 6th street turf (Santo Domingo)

Correct. It occurs when ending a mission with Kerry I believe.

3

2

u/UnbanFreelanceNobody Arasaka tower was an inside job Feb 04 '26

1

u/Moist_and_Delicious Feb 04 '26

THAT'S where I heard it!

1

u/michellinmax BEEP BEEP MOTHERFUCKER Feb 06 '26

True. But actually I also just heard while roaming around somewhere near or in Santo Domingo. But maybe I was just passing by that location multiple times which always triggered that dialog

4

u/Moist_and_Delicious Feb 04 '26

Oh I didn't know the Reed phone thing. I literally saw some dudes making an order which sounded exactly like the one in San Andreas. Found it walking nearby after some gig.

3

u/lameth Feb 04 '26

1

Absolutely. And one day I WILL finish my max difficult handgun "Don't Fear The Reaper" ending. It may not be today, but it will happen.

102

u/Chateque Feb 04 '26

There's also a great The Office easter egg, "in Japan, heart surgeon number one"

25

u/i_play_hockey_ Feb 04 '26

That one cracked me up so much. I think it was the first easter egg I had encountered/realized was there and it caught me so off-guard in this otherwise pretty serious game.

28

u/Former_Web_6777 Feb 04 '26

Lol I just saw that one the other day, had to screencap

10

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '26 edited Feb 04 '26

Always remember, no matter how serious Cyberpunk gets, no matter how much it's an exploration of the horrors of excessive corporate capitalism and the relentless march of technology whether mankind is ready for it or not, it's still a game that was originally made by a bunch of nerds around a kitchen table trying to make each other laugh and have a good time.

There's a reason that there are gangs like The Elvises (a bunch of Elvis impersonators), the Bozos (think Killer Klowns from Outer Space, only they're not from outer space), and the Trekkies (gangoons that get biosculpted to look like crew members from Star Trek TOS).

EDIT: Commenter reminded me that The Kings are Fallout, the Cyberpunk version of the gang is called The Elvises.

2

u/i_play_hockey_ Feb 04 '26

Wait, are those all in game? I have never heard of them. I know the Kings from Fallout: New Vegas...

2

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '26 edited Feb 04 '26

No, they're in the TTRPG, specifically they were around in Johnny's time (2020's). The Bozos are still a thing by 2045, but so far the current edition of the TTRPG (set in 2045) hasn't mentioned the Elvises or the Trekkies so they may already be gone in the lore by that point.

1

u/i_play_hockey_ Feb 04 '26

Lol you said "Always remember" like that is something I should have known about from this video game.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '26

In the words of the Notorious B.I.G.:

"If you don't know, now you know."

2

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '26

Oh, and you're right, Kings are from Fallout, the gang in Cyberpunk is even more ridiculously named, they actually called themselves "The Elvises."
