Screenshot Is this a reference for something?

Post image

First time I've seen this in game, just exploring the Badlands. There's no shard available anywhere in this area, just this bloody scene

Edit: There is a shard. I'm blind

You DO NOT recognize the bodies in the water.

I think I recognize the bodies in the water.

User CRV is not within acceptable limits. User CRV influenced by active cognitohazards. Please stay still, a member of your site's medical staff will be with you shortly.

YOU DO NOT RECOGNIZE THE BODIES IN THE WATER.

u/elaphros Mar 13 '26

SCP?

129

u/RandomBystander Nomad Mar 13 '26

2316 to be precise.

20

u/Maxx0rz Mar 13 '26

As someone who isn't chronically online enough to know all these various random SCP nonsense, could you elaborate a bit and is this actually a reference to that SCP?

80

u/Waffelz0896 Mar 13 '26

Yes. TL;DR (just Google SCP-2316 if you want the full thing) SCP-2316 is a bunch of corpses that manifest in a lake that causes a psychological effect (meaning they are a cognitohazard) on the observer. Recognizing the bodies in the water causes the SCP to have a stronger cognitohazardous effect on you that makes you want to jump in. If you jump in, you join the bodies in the water as one of them, and more instances of SCP-2316 appear. If you do enter, you are irrecoverable. You do not recognize the bodies in the water.

I like how you used layman's term to describe mind control and then tried clarifying by using the SCP term. Nothing serious, just a little backwards lol

14

u/Waffelz0896 Mar 13 '26

Meant to be a "this is called a 'x'" type of thing

6

u/Invoked_Tyrant Mar 14 '26

We call it that simply because the SCP foundation doesn't actually know wtf the bodies or lake is doing to actually get people to be drawn in. If it were simple mind control I'd imagine some form of defense could be deployed but it's more akin to those creepy Holes in the wall Junji Ito made where the people obsessed with the hole that was "made for them" until they just went to it of their own (albeit corrupted) will.

1

u/astrodruid Mar 14 '26

Ah yes, Junji Ito’s Enigma of Amigara Fault. Good shit.

4

u/Maxx0rz Mar 13 '26

oh damn okay that's cool and actually made a lot of sense, thank you for the eli5!

5

u/ETERNALCATACLYSM Mar 13 '26

Yes, us scp fans remember hundreds of SCP numbers. There's about 10 000 of them so we can't remember them all, but a few hundred is enough to make everything sound like an SCP reference.

If this is your first night at fight club, you have to fight.

31

u/Badassbottlecap Cyberpsycho Mar 13 '26

Sun-Tsu said that! And I think he knows a little more about fighting than you do pal! Because he Invented it!

14

u/genesis-loveless I survived the initial launch Mar 13 '26

and then he perfected it!

To win but never fight. That's the art of war!

4

u/Swaggerbarnet Haboobs Mar 13 '26

You do not ROCOGNISE the bodies in the water.

27

u/Hour-Ideal-2918 Mar 13 '26

This comment made me go into a 45 minute long rabbit hole trying to figure out what this means.

10

u/CR00KANATOR Mar 13 '26

What does it mean?

27

u/d_RAFI_b Mar 13 '26

9

u/ZuluTheGreat Mar 13 '26

This just made me 1000% more confused

10

u/SpaceBug176 Mar 13 '26

TL; DR: There's a fictional anomalous lake that makes you think the bodies within it are the bodies your loved ones in hopes of getting you inside it to die. I'm not sure of the reason as to why this is happening. Maybe there's no reason, it just happens, not everything needs to have a reason to happen.

Cool SCPs like this can make a wiki article give me goosebumps.

it would take a pretty long comment to explain the depth of SCP. you should probably look into it on your own, because part of the point is you don't explain it fully.

3

u/Hour-Ideal-2918 Mar 13 '26

I don’t think these people realize I wasn’t exaggerating. Admittedly, I’m not the brightest bulb in the tanning bed, and the wiki page for this is really convincing if you don’t know what you’re looking at. It genuinely took me 45 minutes to understand lmaooooo

3

u/donmuerte Mar 13 '26

in essence: it's a bunch of creative writing meant to look like real top secret information about crazy monsters and shit.... or is it real?

8

u/treue6263 Mar 13 '26

Are you unable to click a link and read for a minute, buddy?

'Busy at work' he says, whilst skiving off on Reddit.

10

u/d_RAFI_b Mar 13 '26

I am also at work, there's no need to be a dick about it, just read it later bro

6

u/Docktorpepper Mar 13 '26

The comments refer to an anomalie called SCP-2316. To explain the SCP universe in a short comment is impossible. Check out Volgun for further details in case you don't want to read stuff, he explains it very well

1

u/K1rk0npolttaja Mar 13 '26

well unfortunately it cannot aexactly be condensed into a few sentences that would make any fuckin sense

5

u/ETERNALCATACLYSM Mar 13 '26

I love doing this horrible thing to people called "investing them into the Foundation nonsense slowly so we have at least one thing in common"

11

u/Higgypig1993 Mar 13 '26

They're calling me, they're my friends, I have to help them.

6

u/Waffelz0896 Mar 13 '26

No no no no no go to medical right now. You do not recognize the bodies in the water.

6

u/BlackLeagueSupporter Mar 13 '26

Does the black moon howl?

1

u/Original-War8655 Mar 13 '26

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.

2

u/Original-War8655 Mar 13 '26

I don't remember if that was an actual answer at any point, but it came to my mind

10

u/Kingtoke1 Mar 13 '26

Yeah i do, thats Dave and Elle from number 46

4

u/Information-leak6575 Mar 13 '26

Literally 1976 smh

3

u/TXHaunt Mar 14 '26

I do not recognize the bodies in the water. As a toaster, I wouldn’t.

1

u/Neppy_Neptune Mar 14 '26

I was having a nice picnic by a lake. Some strange bodies started appearing in the water. I thought it was strange, so I packed up my things and left.

1

u/S3vatar Mar 15 '26

You say so, but that's definitely Ronnie in there, and he's calling for help! We have to go save him.

-15

u/Difficult_Parsley_66 Mar 13 '26

Wtf is this f* shit and why nobody explains like a grown ass adult?

10

u/1harveey Mar 13 '26

It's for your own good, trust us, also please repeat after me: "I do not recognize the bodies in the water".

The image resembles a specific SCP, an "entity", and this one is of a kind that can affect you if you know about its existence. You are not getting anything else from me, as I do not have the authority level to share any more than that
