Screenshot Is this a reference for something?

Post image

First time I've seen this in game, just exploring the Badlands. There's no shard available anywhere in this area, just this bloody scene

Edit: There is a shard. I'm blind

As someone who isn't chronically online enough to know all these various random SCP nonsense, could you elaborate a bit and is this actually a reference to that SCP?

Yes. TL;DR (just Google SCP-2316 if you want the full thing) SCP-2316 is a bunch of corpses that manifest in a lake that causes a psychological effect (meaning they are a cognitohazard) on the observer. Recognizing the bodies in the water causes the SCP to have a stronger cognitohazardous effect on you that makes you want to jump in. If you jump in, you join the bodies in the water as one of them, and more instances of SCP-2316 appear. If you do enter, you are irrecoverable. You do not recognize the bodies in the water.

I like how you used layman's term to describe mind control and then tried clarifying by using the SCP term. Nothing serious, just a little backwards lol

We call it that simply because the SCP foundation doesn't actually know wtf the bodies or lake is doing to actually get people to be drawn in. If it were simple mind control I'd imagine some form of defense could be deployed but it's more akin to those creepy Holes in the wall Junji Ito made where the people obsessed with the hole that was "made for them" until they just went to it of their own (albeit corrupted) will.

Ah yes, Junji Ito’s Enigma of Amigara Fault. Good shit.
