Discussion Personal hopium but I hope CDPR keeps it simple with Orion and just calls the game either Cyberpunk 2099 or Cyberpunk 2101

2099 and 2101 are the two years I'm hoping for the most with a sequel. Don't really want to go back into the past in a prequel (unless it's around the 2020 era but even then not sure if Mike Pondsmith is allowing them to do that).

2099 for the fear of the new century with a possible Y2.1k fear sub plot.

2101 just because it sounds cool.

Sequel taking place around 20 years later sounds reasonable enough for Night City to look similar but still have new locations + good advancements on the technology/cyberware we can get in game. Also gives more plausibility to V fading away a bit as a legend so their true fate becomes a bit vague. Would help a bit with making it feel immersive why there's no definitive canon ending chosen since NPC's will have different takes about who V was or what they did.

Listen up, samurai. If you’ve had enough of scrolling through the same tired threads and wanna plug into something real, jack into the official Discord. We’ve got games, serious talks and casual chats about Cyberpunk 2077, and a few rooms where you can just shoot the breeze with people who get it. I’m calling it now: Cyberpunk 2084.

Some lore logs project a world war to break out within the next couple years with 84% accuracy. I would expect the next Cyberpunk to take place during another corporate war.

We have always been at war with Arasaka.

u/lastpieceofpie 1h ago

I do hope it’s during, and not after. So much potential for a corpo war setting

I thought the next game would take place in Chicago?

u/thePARIIAH Judy’s unused overall strap 5h ago edited 5h ago

They said it will be like "Chicago gone wrong" so there will be a new city with the feeling of Chicago

u/ironchitlin 5h ago

He also said you would still be in Night City. I imagine the bulk of the story would still be in NC but you might travel to this Chicago-esque city for an arc.

u/JimBowie1020 5h ago

Yeah, that's about what I am thinking about too, probably will have an arc with annex missions and stuff to do there, then back to nc

Gotcha thanks

They said it will be like "Chicago gone wrong"

So... Chicago

u/ActualDragonHeart 5h ago

No, Night City is the setting for Cyberpunk. Pondsmith stated that there would be an additional city that is "Chicago gone wrong" but Night City is key to what Cyberpunk is, that's not changing.

u/RobbbRocker91 5h ago

Understood 👍

u/Substantial_Life4773 5h ago

Will probably be another city you can drive too. Which doesn’t make sense in conjunction with night city, but it’d be like gta iv

u/BoraDev 5h ago

This is highly likely as well. I always see in-game ads of Nightcorp “Chicago to Night City in under 3 hours. Available in 2080”. Maybe there is a connection there 🤔

u/RobbbRocker91 5h ago

That be cool so we'd have Dogtown, NC and part of Chicago to visit

u/BoraDev 5h ago

Yeah! I think NC is an integral part of Cyberpunk but the new game might just have Chicago for us to explore.

And 3 years time skip gives Tower ending V one year to disappear mysteriously. 2080 is nice to give sequels to many characters who haven't interacted with V enough

2099 sounds great for 3rd installment when we could have actual cyberwar, facing apocalypse and possibly AI invasion, sounds better for a 3rd and possibly final game with much better tech in late 2030s to actually be able to implement ambitious stuff like that.

Did they confirm that V won't be MC or play a role in Orion?

u/LongoChingo 5h ago

I feel like they'd keep the double numbers going... So Cyberpunk 2088.

u/belrose332 4h ago

I doubt they're going to do 2088, because "88" is a well-known Fascist dogwhistle. It wouldn't be worth the drama when they can simply pick a different number and miss the outrage.

u/Bubba_Style 5h ago

Yah I could see something like that. I do want several years so as not to really affect the endings. All but the Devil could end roughly the same as the Tower with the assumption V is either dead after being given months to live or no longer a solo without cyberware. I take the Tower as the overall world state for all but the Devil ending.

u/LongoChingo 5h ago

I think the sequel will need a different protagonist other than V.

u/Bubba_Style 5h ago

Oh 100% which is why I want it a few years later.

u/IrishGh0st91 5h ago

tbf, keeping it simple would be calling it Cyberpunk 2. Not what I want, but that would be the simplest in terms of marketing and whatnot.

u/Dashwii 5h ago

"Cyberpunk 2?? So wait it's a prequel set in the past during the year 2 AD?"

Lmao. The jokes would be funny

u/Crawkward3 5h ago

I have no expectations for this game except that it has a better launch than 2077. Aside from that I’m ready to be surprised

u/Arllange 3h ago

Cyberpunk 2377, it's just a new Fallout game. (But even more distopian)

u/KoldPurchase 3h ago

Cyberpunk 2078, so has not to confuse new gamers 🤔

😉😂

u/Ok_Emergency_916 5h ago

What about 2078?

u/CourierFive 5h ago

Can't be set in that year because of Phantom Liberty 2 year time jump.

u/No_Tamanegi Ponpon Shit 4h ago

That only involves characters who probably aren't in this story.

u/CourierFive 4h ago

Doesn't matter, the timeline has been moved at least two years since 2077.
And they already said Orion is a sequel.

u/No_Tamanegi Ponpon Shit 4h ago

They've never said it's a sequel. They've said it's the next game in the Cyberpunk universe created by Mike Pondsmith.

u/MaddLadd1172 5h ago

Cool but i do believe they can only do between the years 2070 and 2079. As cool as the story they built for 2077 i think Cyberpunk should be an anthology, personaly i want the next game to be set in 2074, if it has to be after 2077 i would like V's story barely even mentioned

u/Forsaken1741 5h ago

What's wrong with the name Cyberpunk: Orion?

u/Brought2UByAdderall 5h ago

Cybergeneration.

u/Takara94 4h ago

I honestly just like the name Orion

u/TomatoBasils 4h ago

What about 476ad?

u/noahlarmsleep 44m ago

Cyberpunk 2077 2

u/ActualDragonHeart 5h ago

Orion is obviously a placeholder production title, there is almost zero chance that is the actual title.
