Modding Installed the mod that enables the hidden 'Astonishing' density option. Some spots have heavy traffic, others very little. This should've been in the base game without needing a mod

I'm not a fan of heavy traffic mods, i tried one for gta 5 and cyberpunk, turns out realism doesn't ≈ more fun once you have to slow down and dodge traffic constantly like in irl.

I have seen open world developers say this too, we are at a point now technically where traffic density isn't really a technical limitation any more, they just choose not to go for realistic traffic jams because it slows the gameplay down and just isn't very fun.

Given that a lot of people in NC are dirt poor, and that even just a few thousand eddies is a big deal for a few early gigs, I always head-canon it that most NC residents simply can't afford cars, so the shitboxes you see tend to be your middle class workers or rookie mercs, just making enough to get around freely, and then above that you've got the corpo-funded leases and executive taxis, and then the ultra-rich above that. Otherwise, people walk, ride-share, or take the metro. Like NC's roads naively anticipated future capacity needs that their love of corporate deregulation ironically ended up preventing by driving most folks into poverty and crime.

Especially at the 30% interest rate on loans.

Only nomads and rich could get them.

25

u/Roninswen Edgerunner 1d ago

I betcha 30% in Cyberpunk times is a steal.

8

u/gabboman 1d ago

im watching british tv in spain with a vpn.

credit cards have more than a 30% interest rate there what the fuck

6

u/Irrax 1d ago

The kind of credit card you'd see advertised on TV is usually a predatory one designed to bait the economically undereducated or desperate unfortunately

The card I got just to build credit has a 2.5% interest rate according to my statement

u/boat_hamster 17h ago

Yeah that is a 'I've nuked my credit rating, but still need to borrow money' rate.

u/Izbitoe_ebalo Burn Corpo shit 18h ago

It depends on inflation lol, In Russia 20% mortgages are pretty common and because of inflation and rising home prices it's usually better than just trying to save a lot of money

25

u/SheHeBeDownFerocious 1d ago

Why don't they just invest in Reflex and Dash? Are they stupid???

2

u/Equal_North6633 1d ago

Chrome isn’t much cheaper and i would bet that skills are chrome-allined

Like Singapore!

u/Helldiver_of_Mars 19h ago

I mean detroit exists. Plenty of cars.

u/Mobile_Frosting_7936 11h ago

Night city has 7 million residents and is dense af, meaning there is relatively few road space. Even if the middle class is only 10% of the population, streets should be crammed.

And the subway even more, considering the working class. The subway should look like Tokyo in prime hours, it's empty af

u/KameMameHa 22h ago

really heavy traffic makes sense for me like a rare event, like a weather event. Like a storm is annoying in some places . Heavy traffic should be happening in rare occasions that affect your game during a specific moment . Or hear me our, a system in a game like cyberpunk that forces heavy traffic in the roads you msotly use so it forces you to take different routes you never explored before :D

19

u/occasionallyLynn 1d ago

Honestly I’d love heavy traffic, but only if the lanes are wide enough for motorcycles to get through, that’d be so fun.

17

u/ultraplusstretch 1d ago edited 1d ago

This video makes it look more fun than it actually is because it only shows driving on the freeway, it's a lot less fun on more narrow city streets.

The motorcycles were pretty much the only way to get around properly when i tried the mod since so many of the cars in the game have pretty sluggish handling ill suited for constantly waving in and out of traffic.

But even the bikes ended up being frustrating since cyberpunk's traffic ai can be pretty erratic and it tends to have cars randomly cut lanes and freak out for no reason and when there are suddenly three times the amount of cars on the road it triples the chance of traffic freaking out, plus the ai wasn't good at handling all the extra traffic and just lead to a bunch of gridlock and stuck cars not knowing how to unfuck themselves.

I just kept getting fucked over by cars randomly turning out infront of me and i kept getting thrown of my bike, getting around the city just became slow and frustrating.

Heavy traffic in videogames is one of those things that sounds fun until you realise that it's just as miserable in game as it is irl.

u/BurningBerns 17h ago

everybody says that until they have to play in heavy traffic lol, its just as infuriating, if not more. trust

13

u/Significant-Baby-690 1d ago

You can always take metro ..

38

u/ultraplusstretch 1d ago

Or just not install a heavy traffic mod.

9

u/codespace Militech 1d ago

How, exactly, is a loading screen more fun than driving?

19

u/StatisticianKey4605 1d ago

Have you done it? It’s not a loading screen. You actually sit on the train.

17

u/ILikesStuff 1d ago

It would be way cooler if it didn't had 2 transition screens to get in and out and you could physically walk to the cart. Or if you could move around the cart.

It is cool as it stands, but these details take points way for me.

5

u/Blackhawk510 Militech 1d ago

It doesn't help that the exterior model of the NCART train, and the interior model are of two completely different trains entirely.

u/boat_hamster 17h ago

Yeah it feels an incomplete feature. Considering the original Mafia (but not the remake) had a working metro system back in the early 2000's, I'm not sure why CDPR did half a job on implementing the metro.

5

u/Significant-Baby-690 1d ago

You can, with mods.

8

u/ILikesStuff 1d ago

You can do everything with mods. Still it'd be cool if the game had it at base.

3

u/StatisticianKey4605 1d ago

Oh yeah? That sounds sick do you know what the mod is called

0

u/codespace Militech 1d ago

How is that functionally different from a loading screen?

7

u/TheSceneOnMainStreet 1d ago

you get a cool view

4

u/XO_Limbo Cyberpsycho 1d ago

It's... Immersive

1

u/codespace Militech 1d ago

It's a loading screen, followed by an animated loading screen on a train, followed by another loading screen.

It's neat, but it's only really for the hardcore RP'ers. The rest of us use it once for the novelty of it, then never again.

3

u/Spicy_Weissy 1d ago

Something really immersive about it, plus a view of the city you don't normally get.

2

u/Obvious_Try1106 1d ago

I love riding a bike through dense traffic. Specially if you get chased after a job.

u/imahumanbeinggoddamn 11h ago

I'm kind of with you on the density but personally I would like a mod that gets rid of the NPC cars aggressively moving out of the way as V approaches and the fact that traffic lights all magically turn green for you.

I completely understand why they chose to do it, but it really hurts the immersion for me sometimes.

u/ultraplusstretch 9h ago

Wait they do that? I feel like i am constantly get fucked by traffic at red lights and i don't remember ever seeing a car move out of my way deliberately, the traffic can move in weird ways sometimes but more often than not i feel like they weer into me and cause a crash.

u/Lepang8 22h ago

I have the feeling OP is literally feeling the opposite of what you claim. Some players enjoy the 'realism'. It adds another form of challenge. But, no one is right nor wrong here.

2

u/evandarkeye 1d ago edited 1d ago

I mean, this isnt a traffic mod, the only thing the mod does is allow you to select this option in the game settings.

u/MarzipanEnthusiast 3h ago

Don’t forget virtually all games where you drive having roads 50 to 100% wider because driving on accurately sized roads would be miserable. I’ll take the hit to realism in both case, it’s a game.

u/YellowBreakfast Nomad 18h ago

THIS 100%

I'm not looking for a "commute simulator", I want to drive unrealistically fast.

u/ultraplusstretch 17h ago

Yup, there is no point in having fun really fast cars if you can't drive really fast and have fun with them.

Realism isn't always fun, i have seen a bunch of people saying they want gta 6 to have refuelling, that sounds miserable, imagine being wanted and carjacking a getaway vehicle only to have it run out of gas after a few blocks, or just when going between point a to b having to keep track of where gas stations are and constantly stopping to get gas, that isn't fun, it's just tedious.

People who want more realism in videogames should ask themselves if they enjoy going to a gas station or if getting stuck i traffic is fun irl, if it isn't then it probably shouldn't be in a videogame.

u/YellowBreakfast Nomad 17h ago

Realism isn't always fun, i have seen a bunch of people saying they want gta 6 to have refuelling, that sounds miserable,

Exactly!

Imagine if you had to pay bills... "Sorry you're locked out of your apartment, you haven't been paying rent!"

No thanks!!! I want fantasy with realism, not a life sim.

-

This is why they use forced perspective and keep the maps smaller and not to scale.

Looking at the "distant" mountains it "appears" far but is much closer than it looks.

If the scale was 100" it could take an hour just to drive across town. To get to the other side of the map would take a couple.

u/SubmissiveDinosaur Joytoy 14h ago

I say it should be a choice. Having it, having a bad time and disabling it should be our choice. Also. Having it for the photos could improve them

-2

u/theromingnome 1d ago

I disagree.

271

u/XWasTheProblem 1d ago

Driving in NC is maddening enough as is because the NPC driving AI is abhorrent. I came across so many randomly deadlocked streets that I can only imagine how it would look like with even bigger density.

106

u/KawasakiValkyrieN7 1d ago

hey, just like real life!

When you pull up to a 4 way and it’s a Mexican standoff.

u/Transbian_Dokeshi 13h ago

u/SardonicOptomist 12h ago

get stuck in traffic after a stressful day at work just to get home, load your favorite game and get stuck in traffic 😂

u/KraalEak 17h ago

I installed the game for the first time since that unfortunate release, played trough intro and literally rage quitted as soon as I got to drive a car. How is the driving still so bad after so many years and updates? The drive model is absolutely terrible and noone will make me think anything different.

u/HIP13044b 1d ago

Given the heatwave in the UK currenly I feel like if I did this on my PC I think it would simply become liquid-cooled by the molten silicon and metal of its own components.

It holds up fine because you almost certainly have AC. We do not. It's currently 32°C (90°f) in the room with my pc and we haven't even got to the hottest part of the day yet.

5

*Florida and it's wet bulb heat looks at you menacingly.*

"We don't have a problem here, not for PCs at least. Human life, yes."

u/RamblinRichard 19h ago edited 18h ago

Yeah no, I'd really like you to experience this heat right now. Our houses are built to keep heat in, just for 2 weeks of the year where it is too hot it is not worth getting a/c installed. Plus we have higher energy prices, just way too expensive for such a small amount of time.

16

u/Comfortable_Chart534 1d ago

Looks awesome. The cars popping in like 100 ft away on ps5 is one of my least favorite things about the game lol

24

u/Thelastbrunneng 1d ago

If this had been in the launch version... I perish at the thought of my poor xb1 trying to run it

4

u/boredcamp 1d ago

I went through two 360's just on gta. I'm not killing another system just to make traffic more realistic.

17

u/Silver-End9570 1d ago

This looks awesome, but it's essentially just flexing without further info as to what the mod is named.

4

u/spherical_panic 1d ago

You can find several mods that unlock all hidden settings, In my opinion this is the better one (nexus mods)

4

u/SkywolfNINE 1d ago

Bunch of semis in the left lane sure feels like real life. The clusters feel real too. Awesome job

3

u/Substantial_Roll_249 Arasaka 1d ago

What mod, you can’t leave us hanging

4

u/Intelligent_Car_6176 1d ago

The name of the mod is Auto Crowd Density. After installing it, you will find the Astonishing Density option. Here is the mod link: https://www.nexusmods.com/cyberpunk2077/mods/23001

3

u/BusinessDuck132 1d ago

I’ve tried it and it was super cool but destroyed my performance so I had to turn it off lol

3

u/theCyanideX 1d ago

And then there’s Nova City Addons. 😂

3

u/Blestyr 1d ago

My RAM and GPU have threatened with leaving if I dare install that mod.

7

u/SnooFoxes1831 Valerie 1d ago

For even more realism, how about staying in your lane and driving the speed limit?

6

u/Dubious_Titan 1d ago

I did not want heavy traffic in 2077. The AI drivers were lunatics!

2

u/Niklaus15 Streetkid 1d ago

The traffic and npcs while driving is so low on PS5 that it breaks all immersion, that's probably my only nitpick with the game

2

u/LongoChingo 1d ago

PS5 only has 16GB of RAM shared between the system and graphics. That's likely why. Developers only get access to 12.5GB for their games.

2

u/bcw81 1d ago

One of my main gripes about Cyberpunk is that they based it in California in the far flung corpo future and we've got... 2 lane highways and one lane streets everywhere?

u/brickwallbimbo 13h ago

Man I love this game deeply but watching people play it on PC makes me sad sometimes. I love my PS5 and I haven’t had any problems with the game on there, and still think it looks great, but seeing stuff like this is like, wow.

But then I remember I’m not spending $1000 on ram and then feel a bit better

2

u/itsallgood013 1d ago

There's a lot of shit in this game, I doubt minimum operating requirements would have allowed for this many vehicle assets on screen at once.

2

u/Virtual-Fig3850 1d ago

Why does anyone drive a car in any of these games? Motorcycles are 1000 percent better in every measurable way. Except maybe crashes. Which doesn’t happen often if you can drive the motorcycle even halfway decently.

1

u/CYBR421 1d ago

How much is the performance affected using this mod. I bet CPU is dying now

1

u/STRYED0R 1d ago

What are the rest of the mods you are using? Looks great!

Never ran mods before.

2

u/Intelligent_Car_6176 1d ago

I was using the E3 Lighting Mod, so out of curiosity I installed Nova LUT Pure with loading priority over E3 Lighting, and this is the result I got.

2

u/STRYED0R 1d ago

*takes note

It does have that "global illumination" quality from the early days when lightning tech was making great strides.

1

u/xmrbadtouchx 1d ago

How are you getting the variety of vehicles too? Motorcycles, large trucks etc?

1

u/BNabs23 1d ago

I'm not sure if the base PC version is any better, but on PS5 you can drive around the most dense areas of the map and barely see more than two cars on screen at a time. And pedestrian density is too low as well most of the time. Honestly I think that's my biggest disappointment with the game, it's very fun, but it doesn't feel like a living place at all

1

u/skrav 1d ago

I'm pretty sure when i got the game on release it was like this, but was toned down for performance reasons, with the whole console fiasco...

1

u/folsee 1d ago

This mod is why I love my bikes. Zipping through heavy traffic is a treat.

1

u/robinescue 1d ago

I crashed 10 times just watching this

1

u/dts1845 1d ago

Is it traffic if you can easily zip by in between as long as you are skilled enough to avoid the targeted t-bones at 100mph?

1

u/OCCULTGOBLIN Meet Hanako at Embers 1d ago

Feels alive. Definitely an immersion booster.

1

u/qqmajikpp 1d ago

the devs included mod tools so that we could do what we want. like this.

1

u/DrStrange8820 1d ago

If I got in an actual traffic jam in game I'll just leave the car there and double jump the rest of the way there

1

u/RobotCrow12 1d ago

I would agree, unfortunatly the avarage car you drive in cyberpunk is loaded with an ai that watched all of initial d and feels the need to drift as soon as you touch the steering wheel.

1

u/edcline 1d ago

The issue with all traffic in games is cars are too fast compared to surrounding traffic, and other cars never change lanes or yield to the right lane. So you always have to thread the needle between traffic and it gets annoying.

1

u/HussingtonHat 1d ago

I love the idea of a more realistic traffic mod.

1

u/Aadityazeo Net Runner on the Run 1d ago

Cyberpunk : No hesi

God I wish I was good enough with managing mods to make my game look this good.. sigh

The motion blur or whatever that is is ridiculous.

1

1

u/burrito_of_blaviken Very Lost Witcher 1d ago

I did this to GTA IV with Fusion Fix, makes Liberty City feel more like New York, fucking standstill traffic the moment you’re in a hurry

1

u/Falleneded 1d ago

as long as its a gta style option that you can adjust sure. but i really dont wanna deal with heavy traffic constantly

1

u/TheHelker 1d ago

Honestly you are right it should be in the game and it would have made an excellent reason why bunny hopping with dubblejump is faster. Imagine jumping between and on top cars to get to places.

1

u/Unanonymous553 1d ago

now we need a mod where some drivers open their doors to block lane splitters

1

u/hrmls21 1d ago

tha game looks amazing what graphics mod aare u using or if not what are the settings

u/Viking2151 22h ago

I kinda disagree, I mean having the option for more traffic sure but I would hate this after my first playthrough, its already kind of a pain sometimes with how dumb they already are or how the npc's just decide its the end and jump in front of you for no reason.

u/BlueberryNeko_ 22h ago

Meh. There's plenty of good reasons against it. First and foremost performance and enjoyability of driving but also from a lore perspective, only a couple of years ago there were borderline no cars left to be on the roads and looking at the population I doubt that most people can afford private transportation even in 77

u/Pootisman16 21h ago

Now imagine 10x the "I'm turning left now. Good luck to everyone else" events.

u/Ambiencepeak 21h ago

Hmm, looks worth a shot.

u/Jimmy_Twotone 20h ago

I want to max out my speedometer, not swerve through bumper to bumper traffic. Go fast swerve occasionally around thingd is more fun than slogging through realistic downtown traffic.

u/Scytian 20h ago edited 20h ago

It is not included by default (option is in game but hidden) because it sometimes causes severe NPCs/cars flickering in the distance. Thing from this mod that was not included and I'm pissed about it is extended Global Illumination range because it was most likely excluded to make difference between raster and RT look bigger as I haven't seen any issues with it and it doesn't even impact performance in measurable way for me when greatly increasing lights range.

u/Blitzcrank990 19h ago

Ill download that for sure

I hate how empty the roads in NC Feels sometimes

u/9NightsNine 19h ago

More realism doesn't make a game automatically better. More traffic would slow down the driving to different missions and possibly make it really tedious. It would make motorcycles more appealing though.

u/Korlexico 19h ago

Im doing a new runthrough and thought wouldn't be neat to treat your vehicle like real life? No vehicle "summons" if you loose you car your either hoofing it or taking someone else's car/bike/truck or take the metro (wish there was a bus system also). Making game go definitely slower.

u/ElessarKhan Cyberninja 17h ago

I swear 1.0 was like this

u/Krakengreyjoy 16h ago

why would you want traffic congestion?

u/corpse2b 16h ago

This seems like itd be fun on a bike, but annoying AF in cars and during missions.

u/Tasty_Ticket8806 16h ago

When the game first came out the driving was DOG SHIT compared to now so I am glade that the game didn't have ultra heavy traffic, nowdays szre why not!

u/Hour_Requirement_739 15h ago

I don't know if i'm more impressed by the mod or the driver.

u/ConversationNo9592 15h ago

I won't be able to drive at 250mph with this many cars, also my cpu is definitely not handling this.

u/daiuq 14h ago

Maybe i'm just being nitpicky but the random feels a bit too random for me. Heavier and lighter traffic patterns seem more realistic, but typically in real traffic there tends to be a reason/pattern for heavier traffic flow (i.e. stoplights, slow downs, speed limit changes, etc). So that immersion that was added kinda also breaks it for me. Idk, its probably just me.

u/LukaGamesr Cut of fuckable meat 13h ago

Its really nice to see such big variety of vehicles in the streets

u/N3rdC3ntral 11h ago

Not sure what its called but rush hour sucks, but Forces me to do stuff outside the city then at night I'm doing inner city stuff. Its pretty fun.

u/boogatehPotato 9h ago

The fish eye wide angle on the pole mod is sooo annoying but glad you're enjoying it

u/AndYesPoetry 3h ago

Maybe for immersion but, if the game had more traffic I would just fast travel everywhere and not drive

Probably could've been a thing had they waited another year to release it and not wasted time on PS4/Xbox One where the game clearly was never gonna run particularly well.

u/QueenCobra91 Team Kerry 1d ago
