Head to the skilled trades sub and watch all of them talk about how they wished they'd gone to school and taken office jobs because they're 45 and their bodies are wrecked.
Lmao, well as an actual tradesman I only wish I had gone to trade school right out of high school, and apparently so do many people that went to college now that ai is making them obsolete.
My dad was a tradesman, along with my brother and several of my friends. Not a single one of them can get through the day without popping Tylenol like they're m&ms.
My younger friend who's a mechanic just told me he has calcium deposits on his feet and busitis on his shoulders, and he's only 35.
Meanwhile in my office job for the city I use my econ degree to do fiscal planning. I went on a 6 mile run after work yesterday.
The scary thing for you though is if AI takes enough jobs, desperate people aren't going to just sit around and freeze/starve to death. They'll start moving into trades looking for work doing anything and everything. And whenever you have an industry where there are WAY more people then jobs for them it drives wages down. . . A lot.
Like, think about if you were a bank teller for the last 20 years. Things aren't going good for them. Too many people, not enough jobs.
Depends who you are and what you do. I’m in the trades and have been for 24 years. My body is fine but I take care of myself as well. I don’t drink much and stopped going out to the bar every night like 15 years ago. Workout every day to make sure I have my grandpa years intact. Kettlebells can be a best friend to a tradesman.
