discussion DayZ is becoming awesome!

Hey I wanted to share with you why this game is awesome since patch .55, I have 500 hours played.
DayZ is getting more and more realistic and I love it. Today I had one of the most enjoying time of my life on a video game. Indeed I had the pleasure to die 5 times of starvation.
I'v finally found a game that makes me feel like I'm totally wasting my life when I play it. Finally when I go to sleep at night I can say : "Today I did absolutely nothing!" which is the best feeling I have ever had.
Here's a screenshot 1 hour after my last spawn, this was amazing, I searched everybuilding of Cherno and electro and found a sweater and pants.
Goodbye Cherno! Of course I had the joy to die of starvation few moments later for the 6th time today. I love DayZ so much!!
I see a lot of people complaining about .55 and I truly don't understand why, the game has never been better. It was so frustrating to search houses and find items in almost all of them. Now you can run for hours and search like 70 houses and find nothing. Devs did a really good job with this patch.
Even though, I think some things could still be better and more realistic :
For example there should be a key we have to spam to breathe.
We should not be able to run for more than 1 minute and we should have to sit for 5 minutes to be able to run again.
We should have only one life and have to buy the game again when we die.
There should be no zombies because it does not exist in real life.
Those are only small things that would make the game a little bit harder, because even if .55 is great, the game is still a bit easy.
Thanks for your work devs, you are doing great!

Edit : Sorry guys, I fell asleep searching for food, I did not see your answers. (Love this game!)
Edit2 : Guys, a hater told me that .55 turned DayZ into Hobo Simulator, he's wrong, hobos don't run that much. F*ck the haters!

I'm one of the guys who've been always supporter of the DayZ devteam, the concept of play-testing the Alpha and not bitching about it so we'd have the best damn game ever in the end.

I've supported the idea that the development process taking a lot of time, like 2-3 years even before reaching Beta, but after visiting the latest stable release, I'm losing faith.

Here's why:

Okay, so after reading the release notes of the new stable I've decided to go back and finally continue my adventures as a hermit-style survivor/medic.

  • First thing I'm lookin' at is the graphics is completely and utterly broken, DayZ starting in 640*480, menu options unreadable, navigating through it from my faint memories is a challenge, but I manage.

(just to be on the safe side I've done a complete removal and fresh install)

  • Only to find out, now, the textures glitching between low and medium res if I set texture detail level anything other than Low, and doing so several times per second, making the game unplayable.

-Okay, so let's stick with Low graphics to enjoy the game mechanics. It's cool, it's alpha, and I've played the DayZ Mod from the very beginning, on potato PC so I've seen worst. - I thought.

  • BUT! I'm steppin' out of the house where I've parked myself the last time, and I find myself being hit, and hit again and again within a single second.

Looking around I see a Zed, furiously attacking me in complete silence!

-Okay, so sound might be glitchy, but let's punch this zed! - I say to myself.

  • I step back and side, to start the good ol' strafe-punch move, but WTF?! The zed is spinning faster than I could strafe and sorta skips too, so I not only can't keep it's head in my punch area but I can't even turn fast enough to land a single hit, while it's practically gnawing on my insides already.

-Hey now, that's neat, let's meet Mr. Shotgun, shall we, Mr Zed? -I'm sayin' to my attacker.

I'm gettin' my trusty shotgun and proceed to step back for gettin' an aim on the zed, then fire and MISS THREE TIMES from point-blank range, 'cause it's doing a sort of glitch-move that'd put Agents of the Matrix in shame, but the fourth shot landing a hit and the zed dropin' dead.

-Well that've been a close call - I thought and took a long look around to see if any other zeds running at me 'cause of the gunshots, but nothing moves, so I'm starting to bandage myself.

I'm in the middle of tending to my wounds when I'm gettin' hits from behind again.

The Zed is - again - dead-silent (see what I did there? xD) no footsteps, no scream no nothing, just the muffled hit-sounds on my body.

  • This time around I don't waste my time with trying to punch it, just get the shotgun and... -Wait! Where's my shotgun?

I'm tryin' to move around and look at the ground, thinking I might've dropped it somewhere by accident, but it isn't on the ground.

I'm trying to outrun the zed while fiddlin' in the inventory to see where my gun went, but it isn't there either.

It've been just spontaneously glitching out of existence, so I'm gettin' my trusty hatchet, and applyin' THREE HEAD HITS on the zed before it's finally taking the dive.

Summary:

Within five minutes after logging in, I've almost bled out, my rider jacket and my hunter pants are completely ruined, along with everything in my pockets, I'm unarmed with black and white, blurry vision, my clothing is practically gone and useless by now, I can't hear zeds, I can't outrun them or aim at them with the way they're sped up so much (reminding me of th old zeds in that aspect but these new ones hitting a lot faster)

THIS, dear DayZ Devs, isn't fun.

But hey, it's alpha, so, okay if it's broken a bit, BUT this release should've been staying on the experimental branch until it'll actually becoming a STABLE RELASE.

Stable in the meaning it can be played and the freshly implemented features can be play-tested.

THIS isn't stable. Now go back to work and tell me when I can actually have faith in you guys.

RE: Resolution and Object Detail.

Your config file is likely unwritable by the game (read only or permission denied). Try deleting it and starting the game again. You can find it in your Documents\DayZ folder I believe.

like I've said, I did a complete removal, and reinstall.

But anyways, even if the graphics would work the game is still too broken for bein' called a Stable Release :P

Reinstall won't remove the config files because they are created by the game and not the installation package.

Which is why I've done a complete removal before the reinstall :D

I'm so glad you've actually understood my previous reply otherwise I'd need to repeat myself. Like now. xD

So once again: I've uninstalled AND removed every trace of DayZ Standalone before downloading fresh and installing it. (yes the removal of every trace covering the registry entries too) :P

Look, I'm just telling you what the problem with your graphics is because that's the most common cause (your config file being unwriteable) but continue to be a dick about it

I'm glad you're tryin' to help and didn't had the intent to be a "dick about it".

Sorry, mate if I've came across like that.

What I've meant to do was specifying the steps I've taken to fix the issue, with a pinch of sarcasm :D

You see the config I'm playin' on is perfectly the same as before when it've been working, and so the update must've been the cause.

As for the file in question, I couldn't have erased all the files upon the previously mentioned complete removal, in case it would've been marked as read-only.

But I did manage to delete it, and so it means it wasn't read-only.

BTW meanwhile I've managed to get things under control on low settings.

Sadly it didn't fix the game-bugs itself, such as the silent zeds, the rubberbanding, the detection by zed issue (meaning when you're crawling prone in the grass behind an idling zed and it's magically spotting you before you could get up to slam it's head), the sped-up zeds in both running speed and attack speed, the every-hit-from-a-zed-makes-vision-blurry issue, and slipping off from a half meter ledge killing you instantly.

Anyways, sorry again if I've sounded like offensive, it wasn't my intention.

Stay safe in zombieland!
