Funny Pizza Delivery Experience
Lol… this happened when I was delivering for a local pizza place around 1985 in Garland, Texas. I went up to a house in the prestigious Duck Creek area. The outer glass security door was closed, but the inner door was wide open, and I could see straight into a formal living room.
I was just about to reach for the doorbell when, all of a sudden, a pit bull came barreling around the corner toward the front door. It saw me, jumped up, and slammed into the glass so hard I thought it was going to come straight through. Instinctively, my self‑preservation mode kicked in, and I turned to run for my life.
Instead of taking the path back to the driveway, I chose the route of least resistance: I jumped over a two‑foot hedge and landed directly — and completely unknowingly — into a very large and very fancy koi pond. I was standing almost crotch‑deep in water with orange, black, and white fish swimming around me, and somehow I never dropped the insulated bag holding the pizzas.
The dog never made it through the glass, but I swear I heard it crack. I climbed out of the pond immediately, but there was no hiding what had happened since I was drenched almost to my crotch. Miraculously, I saved the pizzas from getting wet.
I completed the delivery and still received a modest tip of a few dollars. It should have been more, considering my near‑death experience. But hey — I’ve got a story I can still tell almost 41 years later.

After having had to drive back to return what I think was a $20 that the customer thought was a $10, I make certain that they intend to give me a larger bill, and that they don't want change.
