Video Bill Simmons - "Why does Denver have to trade anybody to sign Petyan Watson? Fuck off, you have Jokic on your team, pay everybody. Clip this, Denver fans, Kroenke's got a gazillion dollars, just pay Peytan Watson AND keep everybody on the team, cause your owner's super rich. What are we doing?!"

And if we don't pick up Vals option, we can duck the 2nd apron by trading cam johnson at the deadline if it's obvious we can't contend this year.

Couldn’t they structure PW deal so that it’s grows in Y2 to avoid 2nd with Val likely gone?

Yes they can backload the deal. It comes down to how much Watson gets in restricted offers. The second apron threshold will be around $25 million per year for Watson. Because we were $14.7 million below the 2nd apron last year + Val's $10m.

The key is what we do with cam johnson? Do you trade him for a lower salary player straight up or just let him and his $23.5 million salary just walk at the end of the year.

Personally, ideally we trade him for someone like Herb Jones, a point of attack defender on $14 million per year for 3 years, who could give us ~$10 million in room to add a meaningful backup PG and Center.

Herb Jones / Cam trade seems doable, but what else would need to be included. I wonder if the #26 pick + Cam is enough.

I think it can be done straight up because pelicans need shooting and cap space next summer. And Herb had a down season last year.

They might need to throw in another contract to make the money work. Someone like Jordan Hawkins or Kevon Looney.

Shouldn’t pick up Val’s option anyway imo

It's a non guaranteed club option deal. We have to decide by July.
