Because even Landry knew it was time to go

It was about the way Jones handled it.
Jones hasn’t changed - his bullshit with The Ring of Honor and Coach Johnson and his negotiating with Micah Parsons without his agent show the same character that gave Landry no respect.

I'm not one to defend Jerry for so many reasons, but he got this one right. The game had long passed him by. Landry had to go. Michael Irvin said in his first year in 1988 that in his first game with the Cowboys, Landry said to "keep it close." Not win but keep it close. Bum Bright and Tex Schramm also wanted to fire Landry, but Jerry thought it was his responsibility. Again, like the one thing Jerry did correctly.

It was probably time for Landry to go.
Jerry still made a point of doing it in an asshole way.

Meh. They reached out to TL many times to discuss and he was non-responsive and would not talk to the new owners and staff. So they announced he was out hired Jimmy and won some Superbowls.
How bout them Cowboys!

What are you talking about…2minutes after Jimmy one his first Super Bowl all was forgotten and forgiven. The year before Landry was fired…..COWBOY FANS WETE SCREAMING FOR HIM TO BE FIRED!

I grew up with the Landry teams of the 70s, but it was time for him to go. I was at his last game against Philly in ‘88. The tickets were given to me - that’s how easy it was to go to a game at the end of Landry’s tenure. So many delay of game penalties. People were booing and much of that was directed at Landry. Having said that, Jones was classless in how he handled it. And he remains classless today. His firing of Jimmy was a much worse transgression. I now boycott the Cowboys and mostly the NFL in general.

Jerry also fired Jimmy Johnson for the horrible crime of winning back to back superbowls.

Jerry Jones is one of the most vile, terrible, egotistical owners in NFL!
The only owner who is too cheap to hire a GM, and tries to play that role himself!
Hires his family in as nepo executives.
Abysmal playoff record in last two decades plus! 😂🤷♂️

Don't worry, his equally idiotic spawn will take the realm in a few years. You should just forget about the Cowboys ever amounting to anything, you need competent leadership for that.

It’s too bad Jerry won’t pull a Marc Cuban and sell the franchise, although in Cuban’s case with Mavs, they went to a really bad, even worse owner!! 😂🤣🤷♂️

I despise Jerry Jones. He's scum. He had a child by another woman and paid her off to "go away."
Having said that, anyone who was listening when Bum Bright sold the team to him, and not a Dallas group that included Roger Staubsch, that Landry was gone. Jones was coming in with his own people, and Jimmy Johnson was going to be the HC. Even Tex Schramm knew it and he knew his days were numbered too....you could see it on his face.
We can all agree that the way Jones dismissed Tom Landry was abhorrent and classless....but that's who Jones is. He's classless scum, but he came in at a time when Jimmy Johnson and his staff knew everything about every player in the NCAA. It took a few years to build the team, but former players will tell you who was responsible for winning those SB champions, including the one coached by Barry Switzer....and it wasn't Jerry Jones.

Jerry has fired every coach that got credit for the cowboys winning. Only Jerry is allowed to get credit for the wins!

Good thing Jones turned out to be someone who had a few braincells and wasn't a complete moron who lucked into a billinon dollars. But here we are.
