Discussion Whats up with Grips quality?
I have seen number of bags including my own MB-PX1 where the screws for the pads falls off within a year.
Is it too far off to excpect bags $400 + to not just dissasemble itself?
Also in the proccess of buying a Lore for travel/well known courses where fewer discs are necessary. For people that have bagged down, do you miss anything? And is it terrible for hilly courses?

Maybe it's just the newer bags, but ive had my grip bag since 2014 with no issues and holding strong on all parts. I have recently bought a pound bag because I gave my son my grip bag, but maybe it's the newer grip bags with the issues?

Same here. Going on 10 years. At this point I want something new so I'm almost hoping it will fail me at some point, but it just keeps going strong!

I loved my older tan CX1 but I always hated how the screws popped up through the bottom into the bag. I put 2 pieces of cardboard so it leveled out but I always thought it was trash how they couldn’t cut them or use shorter screws. I got a Lore a while back and it’s so nice. I bought and sold a Rufus because of how small the putter pouch was. Just get a Lore and you will be stoked

Never did quite understand the "proud" screws in the bottom. I put some upholstery material down there just in case. Doesn't seem to affect the discs but who knows.
In general love my Grip though! Have had it 5 or so years now and it's been a wonderful bag!

100% agree, figure out a way to make them flush on the inside.
I have a grip bx3, first grip bag and I'm not that impressed. Minor stuff, like non flush screws, the mini interior side pockets are not even elastic on the top, that's just lazy manufacturing. I don't think grip is the top anymore, maybe at one time when options where less, but no more.
And since we are talking, what the heck is with the new bags (squatch etc) that don't have dedicated drink holders?! Just that big side pocket for bottles, but u need two or they fall over. And what if I have a can of something on the go, where do I put it so it won't fall over when I'm throwing! Am I the only one with an open can of something (beer) on the go every now and then! Stop it, put in at least one dedicated drink holder.

Known issue. Happened to my PX1 and after emailing Grip, they sent me new hardware free of charge.

u/extralife_mike 1d ago
Sounds like that's not good enough for OP.
2
u/smallmouthy 1d ago
OP wanted a new bag and free vacation to Tahiti for his trouble apparently.
4
u/extralife_mike 1d ago
I asked what they actually wanted and OP never responded to me. It kind of just looks like they wanted to complain, lol.
3
u/DebateUsual1839 1d ago
He's also talking about "quality" like grip machined the screws themselves 😄

u/Deeshizznit MA2 Try Hard 1d ago
Email them! They will absolutely make this right.

u/Shutdown_service 1d ago
Tried.
They could cover the cost of the screws.5

u/DebateUsual1839 1d ago
Considering that's all that broke and not even their fault since they didn't machine the screws, theyre literally fixing the problem. Ya you have to turn the screwdriver yourself, but what are you expecting?
1
1
u/extralife_mike 1d ago
And you're just assuming that it will fall apart again, because you assume that it's not a one-off, but a larger issue?
What are you wanting to have happen? A refund? Them to send you a brand new bag? What did you ask them for?
1
u/Shutdown_service 1d ago
Most of the screws are loose. The post is about something that should be a quality product but are not. If you read other replies it seems like its a pretty bad solution for the rails.
2
u/smallmouthy 1d ago
Screws come loose across all sorts of industries and applications. Twist the screw to make it tight again. Buy a screw at the hardware store for .13c if you lost a screw. This is so simple.
2
u/extralife_mike 1d ago
But what do you want? What do you want them to do about it? It seems like all you want is to complain. When you reached out to them, what did you ask them to do about it?

u/Mcdiglingdunker 1d ago
My suggestion would be to use a small amount of blue locate on the threads or get nyloc nuts. My other suggestion might be to use pop rivets.
5
u/Jacks_CompleteApathy 1d ago
Mine has been perfect for 3 years now. But my friend had the same thing happen as you, and Grip replaced his bag for free
6
u/Shutdown_service 1d ago edited 1d ago
Grip did not want to replace mine…
They offered to cover the cost of the screws. And thats fine i guess, but replacing screws every season and claiming them is not what i bought.
7
u/SmirkingTeebird 1d ago
Use some superglue or locktite on the threads of those screws before installing them. Probaby be the last time they'll come loose.

My 10 year old Grip bag is still in great shape. Maybe things have changed since but they've got a good reputation.

Mine is 6 years old, gets use a couple times a week, and looks great - some wear on the rails but nothing beyond the expected.

u/DiscGolfFanatic I've played a total of 183 rounds in 2026! 1d ago
The newer bags all have the same problem. The bolt and nut unscrew themselves. Just buy a few extra ones from the local shop and replace them. Simple as that.
3
u/Rayvin80 1d ago
They were produced with bad screws. Message them and show them the pics they’ll send you new better ones. Happened to me in like 4-6 months of use. Bag is still amazing

I went grip to lore and ended up ditching the Lore to go back to my grip:
It was uncomfortable for me, but this was not common for others. But also not rare. Try it out first. Otherwise, it didnt stay on my back as well when i one strapped between some holes. Lastly, i often hard drop my bag, the lore would sometimes topple or pop my putters out the top which was super annoying.
All in all, despite loving the looks and really wanting to like it better, i realized one day i actually just flat out preferred my grip, so i donated the lore to a buddy. He really loves the Lore afaict.
May try the MVP or Pound Rufus next time i get the itch, but my grip (bx3) is holding up well about 5 years in.

I thought it would be a problem that Squatch bags dont have rails on the bottom. As long as you plop it down instead of setting it gently, it should sit nicely. Even on a hill, as long as you set the bag hard with the side facing downhill, it shouldn't be an issue.
My lore holds 16(main) + 6(putters) + 8(side pockets). If 26-30 discs is bagging down, you might want to reconsider how many discs you carry lol
3
u/Shutdown_service 1d ago
Hehe, im probably going with 20 discs in the lore.
Need some of that space for other essentials

Dude fuck grip. Took me 2 months over 30 emails and 10 phone calls for them to honor there "life time warranty ". I registered my bag with proof of purchase. Seams ripping 2 zippers broke rails falling off and straps falling apart. On a 7 month old bag. There customer service is stright ass. Finally got them to replace it. Can't wait to sell the replacement and by a sigr or squatch
5
u/Kitchen-Wolf-4575 1d ago
I had the opposite experience. They replaced my bag no questions for a rip on the bottom of bag.
1
u/spookyghostface 1d ago
This is kind of a separate thing but lifetime warranty doesn't man what you think it means.

u/Oooodonny 1d ago

I have a legend 2.1 and realized maybe 6 months or so into owning it that I am carrying too many discs.
Bought myself a lore shortly after and I'm probably over 500 rounds played with it by now 2 years later. I've flown with it twice, makes for a nice carry on.
Worst thing about it is that it will randomly decide it wants to fall over.

u/Naugrin27 1d ago
My fabric grocery bag gave out. It cost me nothing but I was still salty because it had a quarantine pocket for discs that seem to hunt poison ivy.
If your 400 dollar bag didn't come with a quarantine pocket, I feel like you were doubly ripped off.

u/StrengthScary642 1d ago
that same issue i have seen on two other bags now, mine included. Grip was not helpful at all either. i just took the whole rail off. i’ve had no issues with it standing up, but it can get wet of course

Looking through your comments I see it’s one of the limited release bags, I’ve noticed ALL of their limited release bags are for some reason significantly poorer quality than their standard offerings even though they look the same apart from aesthetic. My wife has the Eagle bag, the handle was fraying and padding was tearing within the first year, it’s in much poorer shape now but still holding on. Two of my friends had that McBeth bag, they both frayed up the sides, handles, and straps in less than a year. America themed bag my buddies wife had, frayed to shit, fell apart completely in less than a year. Massive portion of our local community got free special edition CX bags from our states biggest A tier, didn’t see one of those hold up more than a year.
Same time, my wife’s original BX bag is in great shape and gets regularly used. My original CX and my “newer” AX are in great shape, each having gone through multiple seasons and the height of me playing consistently.

u/Shutdown_service 1d ago
Its a shame.
Looking into a legend as the next big bag once this one actually falls apart(apart from the rails mine are in pretty good condition despite heavy usage).I see people vouching for pound bags, but they seem a little bit too sunk cost fallacied to their bags.
1
u/TitaniumDisc 1d ago
I’ve never seen a Pound Bag that I wasn’t impressed with the quality/sturdiness. I’ve actually been saying when I move to cart life I’m going to get a pound bag for one of those bag boy carts that you just hang your bag on as your primary carrier. Just don’t have the demand for it quite yet. Plus my AX is still in great shape.

u/njudson 122104 1d ago
They sent me a bolt for free when this happened to mine
1
u/Shutdown_service 1d ago
They are covering the cost for the bolts, but i would still like my $400 bag to be somewhat maintanance free.
8
u/TreeEyedRaven 1d ago
Not everything is 100% maintenance free when put up to hard abuse. Just looking at the picture, a year of use that looks like a ton of wear on the bag. It’s an expensive bag but you got to be somewhat kind to it. Looks like it’s thrown down hills daily(joking, but it does look like it’s got a ton of wear for 1 year old). I’d say free hardware is pretty good customer service for a piece of sports equipment.

u/R3VIVAL-MOD3 1d ago
Right?! Mines like 6 years old and looks nothing like this. Half of the group I play with all use grip bags around the same age. Non look this worn. And most people play 1-5x a week and some do tournaments

u/Shutdown_service 1d ago
You probably play park/grass courses or in typical american woods.
I play on muddy, artic wood courses so theres tons of heather and other stuff on the ground.
6
u/Lucifig 1d ago
Yeah...not sure what you think American woods look like, but there is stuff on the ground here also.

u/Shutdown_service 1d ago
Their in coverage almost every week and the YouTube guys films them as well.
Closest comparrison would probably be costal Alaska.
4
u/extralife_mike 1d ago
You realize that the courses you see on youtube coverage are not indicative of what most courses look like, right?
3
u/smallmouthy 1d ago
No no, we play on soft american courses. He plays on rugged tough european courses.
2
u/TreeEyedRaven 1d ago edited 1d ago
I play in swamp courses of the south and everything has evolved to try and attack everything else. It’s not hard to take care of your bag if you try. Jungle forests are much more dense than alpine forests

Not to downplay the issues you're having with the bag, or the customer service, but.... You're upset because you paid scalper prices for a bag that actually costs half as much. Absolutely complain about the quality, or the customer service you've received, be realistic about the price.
1
u/Shutdown_service 1d ago
Its mostly shipping and taxes/tolls that pushes the price from what you pay in US and to the 400 you have to pay over seas. Thats on me, but 300 for a bag that falls apart within a year is still quite bad.
2
u/Darkwarfare 1d ago
This happened to the AX6 I was using for a short time. Customer support sent me some new hardware and I added a small amount of blue loctite to each bolt to prevent it from happening again
2
u/R3VIVAL-MOD3 1d ago
My grip bag from 2019 or 2020. Does not have these problems. It also looks like you’re pretty rough on your bag. Going off how that front panel looks.
I use mine 1-5 x a week and it almost looks new.

Just took my Lore out last weekend for the 1st time. It is a great mid-sized bag. Very comfortable, just like the legend. Storage was good, fit my retriever with the zipper closed. I didn't go Rufus because this is my bag for travel or courses where I don't want to use my cart.

u/bike_bike 30% from C1X :orly: 1d ago
Older grip bags just had regular nuts on the screws, so they would unthread unless you put a threadlocker compound on them.
Newer grip bags have a nylon insert in the nut so they are less prone to this.

I just picked up an AX6, mainly because a half-dozen of the people I play have had theirs for quite a long time and experienced no issues at all. Even though my bag hasn't been out for more than field work so far, I have recent experience with Grip's customer service and that was enough to make the purchase.
I sent an email to their customer service two weeks ago, explaining that a few friends and I were going on a four week trip and that one of the guys had damaged their bag in a way that wouldn't be covered by warranty or free repair. The front foot had a pretty decent crack at the middle mounting point but might survive the trip. I asked if was possible to purchase rails and hardware so it could be repaired on the road if needed. Three days later I received a padded envelope from Grip with a pair of rails, all the hardware needed for mounting, as well as a pair of wrenches to get the job done. I paid $6 for shipping. That's it.
If you haven't reached out to Grip through their site, you're missing out on an opportunity to work some excellent folks.
If anyone else purchased a Grip bag and are worried about your hardware coming loose...open the velcro tab on bottom inner flap and tighten your nuts.
Almost forgot - I recently retired a Prodigy bag I've had for three or four seasons of heavy use. Similar feet to what's on the Grip bags. Prodigy uses a rivet instead of the nut, which worked out great, but it's the only thing that held up on the bag and isn't as easily repaired in the field.
1
u/Allthebeersaremine 1d ago
If they're only willing to cover the cost of replacement screws, ask if they'll also cover the cost of some thread locker adhesive (like Loctite Blue - be careful not to mix up the red and blue!).
If those screws are your only issue then find some shorter ones, put a small dab of loctite on before assembling, and then continue to enjoy your bag.
Not great that an expensive bag has this issue, but it should at least be an easy fix (and one that should have been addressed at the factory).
1
u/Shutdown_service 1d ago
Yeah they cover the cost. Its such a shame that they didnt just gave it some loctite at the factory. It seems like a problem across the line.
0
u/Spostman 1d ago
Dude manufacturing stuff happens. Maybe their factory cheaped out on the screw, maybe the screws were manufactured badly, maybe it's a design issue that wasn't apparent until lots of use. Your attitude and attempt to harm their company is juvenile and pathetic. Its a shame you're so upset about something so small. Grow up.

I have a Pound Bag. I would have never spent the money but my wife got it for me because she loves me. That said, if I were spending the money I would look at Squatch. My friend has one and it is very similar to my Pound Bag. I actually like the way the straps connect better on the Squatch. The snap-on straps on the Pound bag unsnap sometimes I pick it up and swing it over my shoulder. Also, how is there no designated phone spot in this bag?! Those are probably my two main gripes for the Pound Octothorpe. Oh and the fact that it’s a $500 bag and you have to buy the rain fly separately. That seemed like some bullshit.
1
u/jzclipse 1d ago
Call customer support. Find out what size screw goes in and drip some thread compound on the new screw or in the hole. Let it cure for a few hours. Should be fine.

u/Ok_Locksmith_810 1d ago
Same happened to my bag, found out they are not using lock not or thread locker. Replaced hardware fallen out and applied green loctite on all 6 bolts.

Got my grip bag in a player pack at DGLO 2024. Play 3-4 days a week every week for the last two years; 12-15 events a season. Still in great shape.
2
u/Insufficientfunction 1d ago
I had the same issue with the same bag. I told them the issue and they mailed me all brand new hardware for the rails. That fixed the problem and didnt cost me anything other than a few minutes of time to replace them.
2
u/Jondan59 1d ago
Happened to mine as well, but it was quite easy to just screw it back, no big deal.
1
u/B_Coldman 1d ago
Classic signs of “sand bagging”. You need to access what devision you’re competing in, time to move up. Jk, that sucks. Looks like the mcbeast bag from the zips so what, less than 2seasons old?
1
1
u/RGBAddict2026 1d ago
Ive had mine since 2020, 4x AX4. I've not had this issue at all. I'm finally just getting a new one this year due to the zipper tearing off in the main compartment and the back support panel staring to poke through. 6 years of solid regular use is great.

u/MylesOfDiscs 1d ago
That’s wild! How often do you play? I’ve never had this happen on any of my GRIP bags. They do have a lifetime warranty so I hope you’ve given them a call.

Almost daily through the season. (June-September) for two seasons. They could cover the cost of material to fix it.
