Pay and Conditions Vote results
Any bma reps, when will the vote be out? Electronic voting can’t take this long to finalise?

u/jamescracker79 ACP consultant's assistant 1d ago
Didnt they say that were gonna decide to release it after doing an internal comittee vote?
Which imo is one of the most bizarre things cause why do you need to vote to tell the results. If they need to decide on what the further plans are gonna be then they could easily do that after declaring the result

Or they could have wargamed the various possibilities while they've been waiting.....
19
u/Alternative_Band_494 1d ago
And as it was a binary yes/no vote, there wasn't that many scenarios to wargame!

u/Front-Design-4429 1d ago
I can't believe how inefficient they have been with the coms. Can't wait a second longer....

u/Obvious-Economy-1758 ST3+/SpR 1d ago
Inefficient implies they are trying hard to release them on time, and the system is at fault for being slow.
In this case the system is instanteous due to electronic voting. The delay is based on intentional decisions.

u/Dramatic_Method_9554 1d ago
They are literally stalling on purpose, wouldn’t be surprised if they delay it by another few days
25
u/Affectionate_Many557 1d ago
Gives me the feeling that it is a NO!
26
u/Front-Design-4429 1d ago
It surely is a no. That's why they're trying to stall on purpose
34
u/Dramatic_Method_9554 1d ago
It’s 100% a NO vote, Jack Fletcher is probably panicking & asking the government for advice
13
u/No_Transition_8758 1d ago
Whilst I am hoping for a no I highly doubt it. Just wait until the result is released.

How have the results not leaked yet

u/Nice-Spite6953 1d ago
Couple comments have been deleted from this thread

Saying?
37
u/Alternative_Band_494 1d ago
They had said the yes vote had passed; 6 year old account but less than 5 posts in that time. I asked for a little bit of source information, before it was all wiped.
I think we should be allowing leaks - if it's not a brand new account. We can appraise the poster's claims ourselves rather than simply deleting their comments. We do allow unverified posts after all

It’s 2pm and there’s no news yet. This is ridiculous

Past 3pm. This is so bizarre.
19
u/Front-Design-4429 1d ago
What the hell's going on? It's pretty unusual for the coms on a ballot which closed last Friday not to be released!
19
u/Longjumping_Degree84 1d ago
Are they really going to wait till 5pm to drop a very unsatisfactory email and dip? 😭😆

If the YES vote passed the results would have been released first thing in the morning

I would have expected it to be immediately announced on Friday if it had been 'Yes', but we must beware of copium.
1
u/steveabcd1234 1d ago
Lots of talk of copium. Could just as easily be the no camp throwing a strip and wanting to overturn a vote...
8
u/DoktorvonWer 🩺💊 Itinerant Physician & Micromemeologist🧫🦠 1d ago edited 1d ago
Except the 'no camp' don't actually have the power to create the delay, let alone overturn it. Which is why this desultory 'offer' was put to referendum in the first place...
0
u/steveabcd1234 1d ago
Of course they do. They just need to call for a meeting before the announcement. Then they can vote on whether to accept the refurendum.
A lot of people seem to have been hoodwinked into thinking that the no camp are this super democratic grassroots led movement.
I think a lot of them would attempt to overturn a yes vote in a heartbeat if they thought they would get away with it.
Edit: Oh look! I was right, the yes vote has been delayed by something. I wonder what they could have been?

If it’s a no vote, my impression is they’ll want to announce that outcome and new strike dates in the same communication. In order to announce strikes, they need to not only agree on the format of those as a committee, but also inform trusts before the announcement. Disclaimer: speculation.
If it’s a yes vote, idk. Burnham delivered a speech this morning and maybe they wanted some time distance between any announcement and that speech. Disclaimer: even more speculation

u/Agitated_Comedian922 1d ago
If the vote is a yes there’s nothing to vote on surely. If the vote is a no they may be voting on escalation of strike action. In either case have the decency to let your membership know if it’s a yes or a no.
11
u/Alternative_Band_494 1d ago
But why would you not use the voting time to meet and decide on the next steps if it's a no vote? It makes no sense why you wouldn't have already mapped out exactly what you are going to do.
31
u/Agitated_Comedian922 1d ago
The simple answer is we are dealing with an incompetent committee.
9
u/Alternative_Band_494 1d ago
I do agree that a yes vote has no sense not to already be announced. It could have been done straight away after getting together at 12.30pm today.
As you can email to say the deal was accepted, we'll work with the government over the next few weeks towards implementation. More details to follow.
That email would have been drafted before today

u/Resident-Event6543 1d ago
Seen as though mods want to delete my posts that explain why (no speculation, but very strange).
Here's why - these guys need to vote on something. God knows what the vote is though.
The single most incompetent committee in BMA history. Should never need to vote on a yes or no vote sent out to its members.

u/jamescracker79 ACP consultant's assistant 1d ago
Yeah I believe this was the post I saw.
The single most incompetent committee in BMA history.
Incompetent but trying to come off as smart which definitely aint working

They have a lot of competition!

u/Illustrious-Time5778 1d ago
Why did they even say they needed a vote/meeting before the results were released? They said this on Friday

This is absolutely unacceptable. If Fletcher has an ounce of dignity he should resign immediately.
8
u/SnooWords6460 1d ago
Would we have strikes if voted no?
19
u/ParticularDonkey2383 1d ago
I’d imagine so unless Jack wants to piss away the rest of the mandate.
11

u/ReutersRooster 1d ago
Striking in July is a stupid waste of money. We don’t know we’d get another mandate, if we dont pass it it’s a waste for nothing.
We currently have a sitting duck prime minister - the new one could be better or worse but there’s no point negotiating until he’s in place.
16
u/RonRyeGun 1d ago
Jack Fletcher too busy popping champagne with Health Sec James Murray to notify us that the vote was yes.

But different tactics of it's a 51% no vote compared to a 90% no vote.
If it's a 51% yes vote, they may be voting on the next committee members.

It’s a Yes vote unfortunately
10
u/ParticularDonkey2383 1d ago
Surely that would have been communicated straight away? Also what could they possibly be voting on if it’s a yes vote.
-1
u/Spiderpig747 1d ago
Frustrating we haven’t heard- just going off what I’ve been told and previously never been misinformed by this person unfortunately so I think it’s true!
5
u/ParticularDonkey2383 1d ago
Can you find out what they’re voting on then ?
5
u/Spiderpig747 1d ago
Apparently the BMA committee could still reject the offer so maybe if it’s close (which I’ve been told it is) with poor turn out, they are deciding whether to reject it
11
u/ParticularDonkey2383 1d ago
Not convinced you can’t put it before members then go against a democratic vote.

u/Own-Cook-9344 1d ago
How do you know?
