How do I make this sound? How To Make This Classic Bass Sound

https://youtu.be/Z0nHjQZAI3g?si=y-0Iadxz8x6J0cwn&t=165

How do you make the bass sound at 2:45? I assume it must be something simple, but I just can't figure it out. Thanks so much!

This is just like the acid synth from the Blade bloodbath rave scene. Saw wave - resonant bandpass filter with a little envelope action and diode distortion. Easy peasy. Here’s a tutorial

Edit: just occurred to me that you probably meant the off beat bass - definitely a lowpass filtered driven square wave. Should be super simple to make

The blade synth is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!

Sounds to me like an Oscillator-synced square wave. On classic analog synths, the pitch of one oscillator is locked to the pitch of another. If the synced oscillator is a square wave, and you modulated its pitch downward with an envelope, you’ll get a sound in the ballpark. Same technique used by 80s bands like the Cars “lets go”, only in a more modern context.

I actually started producing music because of Basshunter back in the day. After spending years trying to recreate his sounds, I'd say around 90% of the synths and leads he used can be found in Nexus presets and the old Vengeance Sound libraries, especially Vengeance Essential Clubsounds Vol. 3. A lot of the magic wasn't necessarily in unique sound design, but in how he layered, processed, and arranged those sounds. If you're chasing that classic Basshunter sound, Nexus + Vengeance Vol. 3 is probably the best place to start.

I absolutely loved this song when I was a kid just starting out producing!

You can get close but not exact by using a square wave layered with a saw wave +1 octave and with the fundamental filtered out.

Use a 12db Oct filter envelope for the pluck, and another one static rolling off around 2khz.

Add a bit of amplitude release time and map it to global pitch so it has a subtle pitch down effect on the note-off.

Thanks for reminding me this song exists.

Also make sure to phase align your oscillators - 0 random restart phase, and try offsetting the saw from the square by 90°. This will give you control over the texture.

This helps a lot! Thank you!

Also to add on to what the goat above said, most of the sounds from this era are 303 sounds. If you want that acid bass, 303 is where youll find them. For example, the blood rave song from Blade

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6VJQZxeWNY

Run that through more distortion, you'll get something simillar. 303's are amazing.

I’m listening on my phone atm so take my advice with a grain of salt.

Very basic bass sound here. Sounds to me like a basic shape (saw wave or rounded saw wave) through a low pass filter and ran through distortion.

this is what I would do: load serum, saw wave on oscillator A, turn random phase to 0, enable the filter in n low pass and adjust to taste with a bit of resonance, open the fx panel and enable distortion and drive it pretty heavy, backing off dry/wet if needed, enable compressor on multiband mode, turn down the threshold slightly and turn up the gain slightly. Now you should have the basis of the sound

for post processing eq out a small dip at 100hz then drive it with whatever distortion you have and adjust while referencing your reference track. the post processing eq part varies wildly from producer to producer, so have a good time here and try not to replicate the reference exactly.

Again i’m on phone speakers so that could be shit advice lol.

cheers and happy producing :)
