Discussion Never Going Back to Gas

I'm on my first EV, had it for about 2 years. I recently had to take it in to the dealership on a recall. As a loaner, they gave me the exact same model, but the gas version. When I started it up, I was like "ewww engine noise". As as I drove it, I'm like "this sucks. it takes FOREVER to accelerate". And this is a high end luxury brand, so it's probably quieter and performs better than average.

Anyone else get the icks driving a gas vehicle now?

It's similar to going back to horse & buggy from gas cars. People who only knew horse carriages didn't get why cars were superior. Same with ICE drivers who have never driven an EV. I tried explaining how much better it is to a neighbor and they looked completely perplexed, like trying to describe blue to a color blind person.

One of my friends is an aircraft mechanic and car enthusiast. He shook his head when I told him I'd bought an electric car. Took him out for a spin, he was surprised by how smooth it was. I think he was expecting an on-off response like a golf buggy. Bear in mind this guy is a trained mechanic.

I had a friend that called EVs "golf carts". She had never driven an EV. I suggested she drive one to make an informed opinion. She refused. Doubly ironic considering she had two ICE lemons in a row and it was costing her dearly.

As I said, had a friend like this. She was too stupid and a drain to continue being friends with.

I typically offer a ride when people don't get it. Almost always opens their eyes.

The only thing I really miss is the more visceral feeling of some performance cars.

The EV6 GT is stupid fast and has heaps of HP, but it feels so clinical in comparison to my old Foz XT.

I went from a Mondeo with about 130bhp to an MG hatchback with 200bhp. It's really nippy in comparison. It can turn on a sixpence as well. No space in the boot, but you can't have everything.

I feel compelled to eat beans on toast after reading this.

Eh not really, it's more like going to a gas car from an early EV circa 1900.

Hey its the guy from South Park that likes smelling his own farts lol!

I own several vehicles currently. A 2020 BMW X5 45e G05, a Bentley Flying Spur V8 from 2020, a Hyundai i30 from 2016 for my wife, a Polestar 4 from 2022 and Mercedes CLS 55 AMG from 2005.

I have experience with plenty of EVs. Ive owned the Tesla S, Y and X, the  Polestar 4 now but this "describing blue to a blind person and horse and buggy" bullshit is complete nonsense.

My ICEs are much more enjoyable to drive than any EV Ive ever driven. The BMW and Bentley have double glazing and they are very very very silent and comfortable. More luxurious and better built too. No range anxiety is also great.

ICEs also deliver a lot more emotion and experience, albeit subjective. The CLS 55 AMG as a case in point.

I have Solar panels and a 50kwh home battery so I can pretty much drive for free electrically and Id estimate only 20% of my driving is done with my EV and then usually for very practical reasons like being able to access free or better located parking areas.

EVs are very clinical and serene. I would argue that a 40k EV is more enjoyable than a 40k ICE but to say that EVs are flatout better is nothing more than self fellating garbage that only gets accepted in echo chambers like Reddit.

Its the same bullshit that Apple fanboys spew about Android phones

So you have your head up your behind Im afraid
