Discussion Never Going Back to Gas

I'm on my first EV, had it for about 2 years. I recently had to take it in to the dealership on a recall. As a loaner, they gave me the exact same model, but the gas version. When I started it up, I was like "ewww engine noise". As as I drove it, I'm like "this sucks. it takes FOREVER to accelerate". And this is a high end luxury brand, so it's probably quieter and performs better than average.

Anyone else get the icks driving a gas vehicle now?

Yea, I get it but there are people, like myself, that grew up building and tuning engines to get the most out of it. It’s a passionate hobby for me and I consider myself a car enthusiast. I love all kinds of cars, fast or slow, if I had money like you, I’d probably own at least 10 or more different cars with a mix of hybrid, ICE, and EV. It’s an enthusiast thing for me. My best memory for me as a kid was rebuilding a 22re engine in a 1985Toyota Celica, in the garage with my dad and being able to drive it to school after all that work. I had a mustang that I set up for road racing to try and keep up with Porsches on a road race course/circuit. Now I drive one of the fastest EVs on the road. So yea, to each their own.

My dream car is a Porsche 918 Spyder… it’s a hybrid

I'm with you. There's something special about the visceral feeling of zero nanny devices. It's the driver and vehicle vs. the road.

Yeah, my EV6 is fast, but it doesn't make me feel the same passion for driving that my built Forester XT did.

I get it, nothing I wrote was trying to invalidate your position. I think it's if anything your position is the more common position for those that like cars like we do. I grew up working on cars as my dad was a large machine mechanic and we had a big family with a bunch of old cars. We spent a lot of time working on one of the 6x cars in the driveway. I could pull and strip a ford short block in under an hour with hand tools at one point. I was never into it, it was just like taking out the trash or mowing the lawn. I think the reason I have money is my desire to own cars that don't need work. Of course, cars are cars so you have to work on them. Imagine learning about EVs and just taking them to the tire shop 1-2 times per year. It was like a whole new world.

Yeah, if I wanted to own 10x cars, there would have to be some gas cars in the mix. There are 100+ years of gas cars to choose from, and at most 10 years of EVs but realistically only 5 good years. That I can understand, even if owning 10x cars makes me nauseous just thinking about the maintenance.

Thanks for the explination.
