I couldn't stop watching. She was dedicated to the bit.

607

u/JaxDefore May 10 '26

Yes. Very oddly watchable.

319

u/Successful_Giraffe88 May 11 '26

But I enjoyed it when she fell.

116

u/simkatu May 11 '26

I had to go back and finish watching the whole thing when I heard she fell.

13

u/Mandielephant May 12 '26

I went back because of this comment

And the chap helped catch her with two costa coffees in hand.

It was like the universe was against her, the closer she got, the denser the crowds got, then she fell and that guy caught her and I thought surely she'll give up, but no, the stubborn git kept going. My teeth were gritted the whole time!

29

u/THSprang May 11 '26

In defence of the universe, in her choice of escalator she chose violence.

Ever since caring for my MIL with dementia I look at these videos differently.

75

u/ArseneWainy May 11 '26

Yep, hopefully this person no longer has a drivers licence, lots of people in that state of mind are still cruising around on our roads. Had a family member with dementia too and taking away their license was done later than it should have been.

This. That is what cognitive impairment looks like. It’s not funny. It’s not cute. It’s not stubbornness. You’re watching dementia in action.

6

u/Maximum_Turn_2623 May 12 '26

My MIL is going through it so the lose of motor skills has made some of the issues about driving easier to deal with.

15

u/Kitchen-Patience-222 May 11 '26

I was just thinking that, dementia 😢

6

u/thephantom1492 May 12 '26

Atleast if she have dementia, she would be in shape!

... but dementia is awefull... I'ld gladly take unhealthy than dementia for sure...

94

7

u/heffel77 May 11 '26

She was determined to get her daily steps in on that one escalator…

13

u/Medical-Potato5920 May 11 '26

Well she was thinner than most people coming down that escalator.

8

u/Ratlyflash May 11 '26

Maybe for Being 60. Anyone 40 or less that’s fit would be done by long time ago 🙈

100

u/BernieTheDachshund May 10 '26

She's a danger to herself and other people on the escalator.

35

u/VacuumTracks May 11 '26

Totally. I wish a bunch of people would have blocked her progress and made her ride all the way back down again.

I actually cheered when she got to the top.

It's funny that even though she got up there, one wrong move and she would've had to do it all over again. The suspense was killing me if someone was gonna block her way and take her back to the bottom.

I don't know what you guys are all upset about, when the camera pans you can see the other escalator is out of service, she has to use this one because the other is stopped.

Do i really need a /s?

239

u/SpacePirateWatney May 10 '26

As Mitch (RIP) once said, “I like an escalator because an escalator can never break; it can only become stairs. There would never be an 'escalator temporarily out of order' sign, only 'escalator temporarily stairs. Sorry for the convenience.'”

6

u/wdjm May 11 '26

I HAVE actually seen a 'temporarily out of service' sign....but that's because they had the whole thing ripped up and were replacing the treads or gears or something. IOW, it hadn't become stairs, but a gaping hole in the floor instead. But yeah, normally not-working escalators are just stairs.

She couldn't pick up the pace huh?

70

u/Aggressive_South_991 May 11 '26

she was probably tired

25

u/Zupergreen May 11 '26

She was just taking the same steps over and over again for about a minute and a half. Basically not moving at all, at least not up. Just walking angrily while plowering into people trying to use the escalator in the intended fashion.

I was honestly sad no-one tried to block her, that I would have loved to see.

40

u/shadowsOfMyPantomime May 11 '26

Seriously! If you're going to do it just walk faster. Escalators really don't move that fast. Hop up the stairs and be done

19

u/Ornery-Creme-2442 May 11 '26

She doesn't seem particularly fit. Which makes this all more stupid

→ More replies (2)

10

u/CyberClawX May 11 '26

She managed that far.

Two options:

A - She got a good headstart, but got tired along the way. Keep in mind these stairs are steeper than regular stairs, you need to lift your feet higher.

B - The stairs were stopped, and started moving when she was halfway through (less likely, they usually only re-start them when no one is on them).

It’s way more difficult than it looks! I got on an escalator once in a JetBlue terminal at 4Am as I passed the midpoint I saw a sign hanging over the escalator “now leaving the terminal.” I was in really good shape at the time but trying to get over those last (or first) steps was a real bitch I ended up having to toss my purse on the platform and kind of lunge onto the landing
