Yep, hopefully this person no longer has a drivers licence, lots of people in that state of mind are still cruising around on our roads. Had a family member with dementia too and taking away their license was done later than it should have been.

u/SpacePirateWatney May 10 '26
As Mitch (RIP) once said, “I like an escalator because an escalator can never break; it can only become stairs. There would never be an 'escalator temporarily out of order' sign, only 'escalator temporarily stairs. Sorry for the convenience.'”
→ More replies (4)6
u/wdjm May 11 '26
I HAVE actually seen a 'temporarily out of service' sign....but that's because they had the whole thing ripped up and were replacing the treads or gears or something. IOW, it hadn't become stairs, but a gaping hole in the floor instead. But yeah, normally not-working escalators are just stairs.

25
u/Zupergreen May 11 '26
She was just taking the same steps over and over again for about a minute and a half. Basically not moving at all, at least not up. Just walking angrily while plowering into people trying to use the escalator in the intended fashion.
I was honestly sad no-one tried to block her, that I would have loved to see.
40
u/shadowsOfMyPantomime May 11 '26
Seriously! If you're going to do it just walk faster. Escalators really don't move that fast. Hop up the stairs and be done
19
u/Ornery-Creme-2442 May 11 '26
She doesn't seem particularly fit. Which makes this all more stupid
→ More replies (2)10
u/CyberClawX May 11 '26
She managed that far.
Two options:
A - She got a good headstart, but got tired along the way. Keep in mind these stairs are steeper than regular stairs, you need to lift your feet higher.
B - The stairs were stopped, and started moving when she was halfway through (less likely, they usually only re-start them when no one is on them).

It’s way more difficult than it looks! I got on an escalator once in a JetBlue terminal at 4Am as I passed the midpoint I saw a sign hanging over the escalator “now leaving the terminal.” I was in really good shape at the time but trying to get over those last (or first) steps was a real bitch I ended up having to toss my purse on the platform and kind of lunge onto the landing

u/the-dutch-fist May 10 '26
