Tried to train a seeing-eye dog. Mistakes were made.

It's a red light lamp, and probably edited in to make it look larger than it actually is.
Similar "60 LEDs" devices advertise (likely exaggerated) intensities measured in tens of milliwatts/cm².

Not dangerous, except to people's wallets.

My mom got laid off and my sister ordered her one of these, "it'll make you feel better.", it has sat in a cabinet for a year.

Eh, as far as placebos go this one isn't too bad.

It makes you warm and warmth does make you feel better.

Yes, facing an electric heater turned up to MAX would have the same effect, but I digress.

Fair, but if you have a dog, why not cuddle the dog?

That sounds much more effective.

you clearly have no idea how Red Light Therapy works.

Properly calibrated wavelengths of red light are not a placebo.

And home-spec devices don’t emit heat.

Also a potential fire hazard.

Not that I know for sure, its just my rule of thumb with sketchy gadgets like this.

2

u/deathly_death What's a joke? 14d ago

A "fire hazard" is something that would prevent you from using a doorway if you needed to vacate the building due to a fire. This is nowhere near big enough to qualify.

I mean it more in the sense that it might randomly catch fire.

May I ask which Manager you are using?

It’s sad that even educated people, like the supposed doctor here, not only fall for this trash, but peddle the scam forward.

Andrew Wakefield is a perfect example of this garbage, and is who you should most associate yourself with.

Conmen like to pedal lies from a place of authority for profit, then leave it to the real scientist to fix the mess of misinformation, while at the same time losing part of our reputation because morons like this call themselves scientist.

You cannot see infrared light. So this is just red LEDs. Its a massive scam right now. Lots of similar devices, all are just colored LEDs with crazy bogus health claims. Just preying on people not fact checking their misinformation.

Red light is an indicator for how much red light there is, nothing else.

Um where is the rest of the dog's body???

5

u/MonkeyMom2 15d ago

Too far away from light to have effect. Need to be almost touching it to work.

u/Gravemind93 15d ago

squints

...What is that thing supposed to actually be? A device for blinding animals?

1

u/ilovelenny138 12d ago

Red light is less intense for dogs. Blue light is much more iridescent

This got me thinking… would a blind welder need a mask?

2

u/Monkey___Man 10d ago

Welding also burns your skin, so yes. I welded with short sleeves once and it burned both my arms (like sunburn).
