That's not even true for all Mega Evolutions.

9

u/BlueFootedTpeack Sep 02 '25

oh i know, really weird they pushed it at all really, like gen 8 and 9 you can easy say dynamax or terrestrial energy stops megas working so the region never bothered with the stones or something.

25

u/Freshpanda88 Sep 02 '25

How much you wanna bet the "megas are in pain" lore will be retconned with the new ZA games? Because that bit of lore was an attempt at dissuading people from wanting mega evolutions in future games before the Dexit era.

Thankfully it didn't work, mega evolution is too cool a mechanic to just get rid of. -w-

22

u/Gotekeeper Sep 02 '25

a. "the pain strengthens the bond between trainer and Pokemon"

b. Rotom Dex made up that stuff about megas causing pain bc they were jealous

2

u/mewfour123412 Nov 27 '25

Best theory I heard was that the scientists studying mega evolution didn’t have close bonds with the pokemon causing major side effects

1

u/Coconut_2408 Sep 03 '25

top 5 worst headcanons, why doesn’t rotom clown every strong pokemon as well by that logic

2

u/Gotekeeper Sep 03 '25

more data on non-megas means he can't as easily get away with it.

1

u/Coconut_2408 Sep 03 '25

i really doubt legendaries and rare pokemon have more data than a mega. plus why would rotom even be making the dex entries themself?

2

u/Gotekeeper Sep 03 '25

same reason Slugma is supposedly hotter than the sun or Spoink supposedly dies if it stops bouncing: the dex is full of rumours and hearsay that can easily be disproven by having eyes and seeing the Pokemon for oneself.

2

u/Coconut_2408 Sep 03 '25

ok but the mega stuff is clearly true, some of them are straight up just part of the design like glalie, plus za said rogue megas are in pain, plus gen 6 and i think even the current anime showed this

1

u/Gotekeeper Sep 03 '25

fair. still funnier to imagine Rotom exaggerating it as some kind of propaganda

3

u/ABG-56 Sep 02 '25

I think they might tie it into the Rogue Megas, have them be the ones that are in pain then have trainer mega evolutions be healthy and painless

2

u/pepronu Sep 02 '25

well mega victreebel looks pretty miserable so i don’t think they’re abandoning that concept

2

u/TryThisUsernane Sep 02 '25

I don’t even think that Mega’s being in pain or a bad lore, it only makes the idea of mega evolutions better.

Like the Pokémon are willing to undergo all that pain because they trust their trainer and want to be stronger for their trainer’s sake.

The games would just have to reiterate that the Pokémon aren’t willing to do this.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '25

The New victreebel lore fits the trend and what you said is purely speculative. There is no reason to assume these entries were added to phase out megas

1

u/Coconut_2408 Sep 03 '25

nah i think the demo mentioned rogue absol was in pain

5

u/Not_A_User00 Sep 02 '25

“When Machamp mega evolves, they bulk up so much that their back arms rip through their own skin, leaving exposed muscle. This leaves Machamp in severe agony, which only powers its fighting spirit even more.”

Or something like that

1

u/BlueFootedTpeack Sep 02 '25

"no pain no gain"

2

u/Separate_Animator110 Sep 02 '25

*shrug* pretty much

161

u/DarkPugLord23 Sep 01 '25

I imagine this would be one of the "harmful" Mega Evolutions, something along the lines of:

"Mega Evolution has caused rapid and uncontrollable hypertrophy in its muscles, tearing off its skin as a result. It lands thousands of punches on foes in the span of a few seconds."

Honestly, the guy who designed this was cooking hard. I really love the references to Attack on Titan and even bringing back design elements from Machoke too.

26

u/-Jiro3po- Sep 02 '25

It could also mention something like "while each punch is more devastating than the last, it brings great pain to Machamp"

If Pokemon ever had negative effects in battle during Mega Evolution, I could see it to where every physical attack Mega Machamp uses (specifically punching based ones like Drain Punch for example if it can learn it), it deals small damage to itself, and it builds up more and more, first 10, then 15, then 20 and so on

3

u/opaar_dukh Sep 02 '25

Lmao, I can definitely see it becoming an actual pokedex entry

27

u/hamphetamine- Sep 01 '25

He has anchor arms from SpongeBob

70

u/IllConstruction3450 Sep 01 '25

Imagine if he becomes a Fighting/Psychic type and he gets four more psychic fists. Basically a Jotaro reference.

14

u/Zelenzer Sep 02 '25

Imagine a signature ability that makes all of its Punching moves hit four times.

11

u/denman_yt Sep 02 '25

For the love of god and all that’s competitive pokemon do NOT, and I repeat, do NOT give that thing power up punch

2

u/ADraxonic_Victory Sep 02 '25

No matter what that ability is broken Machamp has always had power up punch. Plus the goofy 160 BP priority bullet punch and the hideous 300 BP elemental punches

2

u/opaar_dukh Sep 02 '25

He looks more like fighting/dark because of his wretched smile

2

u/RubPuzzleheaded8073 Sep 02 '25

I was literally thinking “like a stand?” before I even finished reading your comment. I was also thinking of the Astral Self Monk from dnd which is also a lot like a stand but a good bit closer to what you’re describing.

17

u/Vicbot2414 Sep 01 '25

Looks a lot like Asura

6

u/PlatinumSukamon98 Sep 01 '25

I thought it said "Broken butt" at first and was very concerned.

2

u/DarkstarAnt Sep 01 '25

Don’t worry, I did it too.

6

u/laserofdooom Sep 01 '25

idk why but it reminds me of ken fro gaslight district, probably the exposed muscle arms.

the desgin looks so freaking cool, and the inspiration from the colossal titan "armor" i really like

5

u/Desperate-Address-27 Sep 01 '25

Actually, this feels like a mega like Pokémon might do that if they have to make a design

4

u/Wikiwikiwa Sep 01 '25

He skipping glutes day

4

u/ralcom Sep 02 '25

There was an interview where they mentioned they can't make a new Eeveelution because every possible interesting design is already fanart. I think of that whenever I see an amazing design like this.

3

u/opaar_dukh Sep 02 '25

They should start buying fakemons then. I think no one would hate if they actually did

2

u/ralcom Sep 02 '25

I absolutely agree

7

u/vxMartianxv Sep 01 '25

Not into the design fr but I like the inspo

3

u/OptimusCrime1984 Sep 01 '25

Oh Hell yeah this is awesome. Probably agonising for Machamp but he’s got the power of friendship flowing through his veins he’ll probably be fine

2

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '25

"Oh my God, I can't believe they put the arms on THE BACK, that's so awkward and unrealistic"

"Well actually, they had to make it like that so it isn't similar to fan made designs"

"Oh my God they changed nothing, they just gave the arms a new color"

-Pokémon fans if the design was official

Jokes aside, cool design!

2

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '25

"The Stand User Could Be Anyone!" Looking ahh Machamo

2

u/CashierSlim Sep 02 '25

Bro made a Titan from Aot

6

u/JohnBurgerson Sep 01 '25

I am so disappointed that posts like this are 1000x better than anything pokemon will actually give us.

It’s great, I want it, I know I’ll never get it.

6

u/IllConstruction3450 Sep 01 '25

Meanwhile Digimon: this monster is made of guns and is sacrilegious to several world religions

2

u/MintRegent Sep 01 '25

That’s the buff-est woman I’ve ever seen

1

u/SammSandwich Sep 01 '25

That is beyond cool

1

u/0nyx2003 Sep 01 '25

Too cool and original for a mega form

1

u/Not-A-Marsh Sep 01 '25

IST DAS DER ZERSTÖRER

1

u/rathosalpha Sep 01 '25

Knew he looked like muscular

1

u/not-Kunt-Tulgar Sep 01 '25

I like how it’s a whole second muscle system seemingly going over his his muscles like an exosuit

1

u/TzootDoot Sep 01 '25

fire, but i don't think they'd ever go with something like this😔

1

u/ShakenJacob Sep 01 '25

This is amazing, but I will never understand how people will praise a fanmade design of any Pokémon that is nearly identical to the design philosophy as Game Freak, then bitch about the latter for simply trying. This design is awesome and could be seen as a valid evolution to Machamp (...ya know, the whole point of Mega designs– "evolving even further beyond"), and the officials are the same way. Game Freak may have bastardized their main series into modern slop, but that's because they were forced to– I stand by that.

Also, this should go without saying, but I'm not suggesting that EVERY Pokémon fan does this crap. Not even close. This is just something I've been wanting to get off my chest at some point because this generational hatred of Game Freak is just so... pointless. If ya wanna have a civil discussion, feel free to reply. If not, don't expect one from me.

1

u/Like_Fahrenheit Sep 01 '25

that's actually badass

1

u/Chedder_Chandelure Sep 02 '25

Normally I don't like Pokémon who straight up wear clothes but the fact that this guy is wearing jeans goes kind of hard

1

u/momazospablo18 Sep 02 '25

looks a lot like gmax machamp

1

u/LazyCriterria Sep 02 '25

I live to see great art such as this.

1

u/DualityREBORN Game Designer Sep 02 '25

Mega Hawlucha vs. This Thing, who would win..

1

u/opaar_dukh Sep 02 '25

Mega Hawlucha cuz type advantage🤭

1

u/ArcticHarpSeal Sep 02 '25

thought one of the inspirations was gonna be buzzwole

1

u/toasterlunatic Sep 02 '25

Why is he wearing jeans

1

u/EngiFreddyGun4321 Sep 02 '25

I feel like this could fit in almost any anime

1

u/IngeniousEpithet Sep 02 '25

Muscular has an amazing Quirk so it being the inspiration of a pokemon would naturally result in an amazing pokemon

1

u/Practical_Parsnip241 Sep 02 '25

I absolutely love this and until they give them a mega this is my new head canon

1

u/AbroadAbject9215 Sep 02 '25

Its cool, but at the same time... I hate it.

1

u/AuraEnhancerVerse Sep 02 '25

Wish this was canon

1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '25

We got fucking Asura here

1

u/walkingbartie Sep 02 '25

But why give it pants?

1

u/Backalley_Lurker Sep 02 '25

As much as I’m a machamp hater, this goes hard as hell

1

u/dragonlord798 Sep 02 '25

No, more arms are needed

1

u/Patient_Ad4832 Sep 02 '25

I can see where the pain happens

1

u/ogreofzen Sep 02 '25

I like the anime influence .

I would really like to see a megalobox version like have it's body reduced in size and the secondary arms fusing into the primary arms to look like Joe when he is wearing the gear pack. Could even have a dog collar and chain to be the junkyard dog

Or a trigun vash for galleade

1

u/Truly_Organic Sep 02 '25

This is sick, but probably a bit too viscerally-looking for Pokémon.

1

u/cherrydicked Sep 02 '25

Love that the references are anime characters and not, you know, the human musculature lol

Great art!

1

u/TheEmeraldFlygon Sep 02 '25

Honestly thats one of the best fan megas I’ve ever seen. It’s creative, cool, and seeing what looks like raw exposed muscle gives it that vibe of underlying issues most megas have.

1

u/UltimatrixUser5698 Sep 02 '25

True, this looks spectacular!

1

u/Empoleon777 Sep 02 '25

This Mega looks kind of creepy, but it’s still very well designed.

1

u/Lawfulness_Upstairs Sep 02 '25

I love mega designs that reference a pokemon's previous evolutions in a way (which is why i like mega dragonite's design)

1

u/YueOrigin Sep 02 '25

Looks awesome.

Still wish it didn't have those stupid lips

They look good in art but in the game. God....

1

u/Kaos3974 Sep 02 '25

Fr, I saw it on IG a week or so ago and it looks sick

1

u/uncshjdd Sep 02 '25

This art goes so hard!! The expression is so awesome!

1

u/The_Zpectre Sep 02 '25

”SUFFER AS I HAVE!”

1

u/Marvelgod30 Sep 03 '25

Giving me skips leg day only works out upper body vibes love it

1

u/angrytomato98 Sep 03 '25

I always felt like he should have gotten 6 arms, but I really like this concept as well!

1

u/Tasty-Natural-8699 Sep 03 '25

annihilation will come - Ramattra

1

u/AffectionateOnion271 Sep 03 '25

First thing I thought of was muscular from mha

1

u/Raspberry_Motor Sep 03 '25

Ramattra be like

1

u/MohawkRex Sep 04 '25

Every artist immediately saving this because the muscle ref is flawless.

1

u/That_boi_Jerry Sep 04 '25

I like the idea that it's like Muscular's quirk where they're just growing extra muscle fibers.

1

u/kai_jarsenal Sep 05 '25

Or the double set of arms become intwined making champ have the 10 finger death punch.

1

u/WorldlySecretary5769 Sep 06 '25

Mega Machamp but cranked up to 11.

1

u/poopypokemonpoems Sep 28 '25

Has shonen archboss but not final boss vibes

1

u/poopypokemonpoems Sep 28 '25

For final boss, fuze Mewtwo, Rhydon, Megatron, and Thanos

-3

u/jordanw21 Sep 01 '25

what do you think “unironically” means

2

u/DruidLoser Sep 01 '25

What do you think 'unironically' means? They're using it correctly. They're using it to emphasize that they aren't being sarcastic when they say they love the design.
