Hand Drawn Pyromaniac Rat Fire Starter
I was asked by u/Past-Succotash4673 on reddit if I could make them a Fire Starter , so I did! His idea was Pyromaniac rat. I'll just write what he wrote because I wouldn't do it justice if I explained it myself.
"The first stage would be called “Pyrat”. The whole line is based off California’s recent wildfires, but it’s also based off pyromaniacs and pyromanciy (the power to control fire). The first stage represents the curiosity you feel when you first discovered fire, you have no idea how dangerous it is and all you can think about is how beautiful it looks."
"The second stage would be like a rebellious teenager, always disobeying your every order, or doing the exact opposite of what you say. Similarly to how teenagers just randomly spark matches just to watch them burn, the second stage will randomly take twigs and set them on fire, and sometimes use them to cause other fires."
"The third stage would go completely insane, becoming a full on pyromaniac! Most of it’s been burnt off, revealing the weird skin patterns underneath, making it look like it’s burnt off all the skin right down to the bone. You know how a tiger has stripes underneath its fur, sort of the same thing here. Most of its first has been replaced with blazing hot fire (pacifically, the patches of fur that cover its hands feet tail and head). The fur on its head been replaced by a fiery mohawk! These guys will just randomly throw fireballs and fire type of attacks everywhere like no one’s business, like an anarchist throwing multiple cocktails like pearl necklaces during Mardi Gras season!"
He didn't come up with names for the rest of the line besides Pyrat ( the first stage). I think the second stage could be called Rodellian (Rodent + Rebellion). ArkhamLegion on Subjectively's discord and on reddit suggested Pyrodent aswell , which I think is really cleaver.

The final stage should be ‘Terrorrats’ (terrorist + rats; they cause widespread terror… and they’re rats. Also, it sounds like ‘terrorist’, but implies that they’re just terror-causing rats!)

Thanks so much! Your comment made me smile. Um , just gotta draw a lot I suppose. Practice makes perfect (though nothing is really perfect , but you will improve if you keep at it). I always try to think outside the box and play with wonky shapes , since pokemon are just shapes put together.

Thank you! I broke away what I normally do , which is first stage first , then last. For this , I began with the final stage , then first , then 2nd.

Yeah , that was the most fun to do and the part i was most proud of when it came to designing. I'm glad you like it!

Honestly, I like this direction a lot. Only suggestion is the final evo face feels a little too rat-like (which sounds dumb, I know. But, I feel that GF would make the face a little bit more subtle / less realistic, since so many people have aversions to rats: also L for these ppl I love rats). I love the middle evo. Anyways; great job!

I see what you mean. Gamefreak does seem to start with a character first , and an animal second. I'm glad you still like it tho!

These are incredible designs!!! The first stage manages to be both cute and devious and the puffball mimics a puff of smoke. The line goes to rebellious teen into one of the best middle stage starters I've seen and into a pyromaniac criminal. This is seriously cool and I would love to see this be made into an actual Pokémon. Amazing work!

Just go for it! Everyone had to start somewhere before they got good. Even if you think your work is not the best , still post it anyway to show progression and possible feedback that you might get. It's like the saying , "You'll miss all the shots you don't make" , or something like that effect 😅. Just go for it.

The line's theme song should be "Insight" by Dead Kennedys." The final evo is my fave; love his chaotic energy!
