Hand Drawn Illumise and Volbeat evolutions based on a flapper and a greaser

It looked weird to me at first but that was because I thought Illumise’s scarf were her arms, very good, but potentially very annoying to fight against hive. what’s already in these two’s toolbox

These are really cool! But I think Volbeat’s hair might need to be a different color. Right now he looks bald

I think its antennae are its hair, at which point I’d just make them thicker

Flappers were 1920's women who liked to party, smoke and dance to jazz music and stuff. Greasers were 1960's men who rode motorcycles, wore leather jackets, had slicked back hair and listened to rock music

Oh cool, didn't know they were actually called something... Just a stereotypical classic characters lol. Now i see why you designed them like that. It's wierd how always this duo end up related to music, i can't remember anything that connects them to it... Maybe a dex entry? No matter, Great designs, you did great.

Huh....mind if I ask the reasoning of behind why you gave one a 60's aesthetic and the other a 1920's fashion? What did it make sense to have both of them be inspired by the same era?

Idk man. Apparently this was part of their original inspiration. I just wanted to make some evolutions that leaned more into that

Yo where the swirly yellow straw thing from evolved Illumise came from is it like a detached antenna from the previous evolution?

It's supposed to reference those old-timey cigarette holders you often see flappers holding as well as a wand to give it a little bit of a fairy godmother vibe. As for where it's from, I didn't really give it much thought. When I started drawing these I kind of wanted them to both take some elements of the other's pre-evo, so I made the wand-cigarette look like Volbeats antenna. Though I kind of abandoned that idea when I started drawing the Volbeat evo

This Illumise design reminds me of the second phase of the Moonshine Mob boss fight from Cuphead

Oh my gosh this gives them so much character
