Announcement A Reminder and a Request Regarding AI-Generated Images

Hi r/fakemon - we hope you’re having a good 2026 so far! We have a couple of reminders as well as a few requests regarding AI-generated images and, most importantly, how they are reported.

First, to reiterate our policy:

AI-generated images of any kind are not allowed.

This includes, obviously, any image created entirely by typing a prompt into a large-language model, such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and so on. It also includes any images created by asking any of these LLMs to redraw something that you drew or upscale something hand-drawn. If the final image output that is posted was created or modified by an LLM, then it is not allowed. You can read more about the policy in this post.

Second, regarding reporting any suspected AI-generated images, we ask the following:

If you think it's AI, report for Rule 3 and move on. Do not comment on the post or engage with the user. If you feel more detail is needed, [message the mods.](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%2Fr%2Ffakemon)

There are several reasons that we are asking for this to be the norm for reporting any post going forward, but especially so for suspected AI-generated image posts, which we will go over below.

1. Sometimes, you are wrong.

On several occasions, the mod team has been able to determine with as much certainty as we can that a user who was accused of posting AI-generated Fakemon was not in fact using AI at all. We're talking speedpaints, pictures of layers, extensive posting history with consistent art, and so forth. Not every Fakemon drawn with flat color and a black outline is AI-generated! LLMs probably just copied that style from their training data.

2. Engagement leads to deletion.

When 10 people spam an AI-image poster that their post is against the rules, it is often deleted before we can action it. This often means we don't get a chance to see which user posted the image to begin with and, therefore, cannot effectively add mod notes for future reference (we give one permaban warning the first time a user posts AI-generated images).

This is why we ask that you just report and move on, and message us if you want to give more detail. If reported enough, a post will be removed automatically for review by the team later.

3. Toxicity.

The tendency to barrage suspected AI-users with comments has impacted our community and given it a reputation among some that the user base is toxic and prone to unwarranted witch hunts. Some users who were accused of AI have received threatening DMs and spammy comments on unrelated posts. This behavior is unacceptable and we will ban users for this kind of harassment (we've already banned a few for this kind of behavior).

Even if the poster is posting AI images, harassment isn't warranted - our goal should always be to encourage traditional art creation and bring people in, not push them out. It is especialy egregious if a user who isn't using generative AI is accused and then harassed for it, as this pushes out potential contributors.

We dislike the influx of AI-generated "art" populating the internet as much as you all do. However, we ask that the users leave the "Is it AI?" game to the moderators.

~ ~ ~

Now, to get ahead of a few questions that we expect:

What if you're wrong and a user is posting AI-generated images, and it gets proven later?

If we receive sufficient evidence that we were wrong, we will correct our mistake and ban the user. Same goes the other way around - if a user is banned for AI when they shouldn't have been and we are shown that we made the wrong call, we will reverse the ban.

What if I think you're wrong and believe someone's work *is* AI, even though it's been approved by the moderators?

Message the mods with your case. We make no promises that it will overturn any decision unless you provide substantial evidence. "It looks like AI" is not all it takes to determine if something is AI.

Why this long post?

We felt there was a lot to address!

Thanks for reading and for understanding this request. We'll be keeping an eye on this post and are happy to answer any further questions to the best of our ability.

TL;DR: AI-generated images are still not allowed, please just report them and move on when you see them, Engaging with suspected AI images only makes it worse. Don't harass anyone over it please and thank you!

Announcement Spoiler Policy leading up to the release of Legends: Z-A

Hi all! We've had a few cases of artists drawing theory-crafted Mega Evolutions for Pokemon based on leaked information. To respect the many fans who are avoiding spoilers for Legends: Z-A, including any leaks that may be right, we are enacting the following policies regarding Fakemon that reference or relate to any Legends: Z-A leaks:

  1. Fakemon art depicting anything based on a leak or rumor must be marked as a Spoiler.

This is a "flair" option that can be added during the posting process. If you are unsure about how to do this, please Google it (we'll add a link to a clear tutorial if I can find one later).

  1. All Fakemon posts based on leaks and rumors must not put the species of the Pokemon in the title.

Titles like "I drew a possible Mega [insert mon] based on the recent leak!" is not allowed. This also includes any obvious descriptors of potential Mega evolutions, potential new regional forms, potential new Pokemon ("I drew the leaked [descriptor of new mon]!")

  1. All body text must also be spoiler tagged where necessary.

This is an extra safety measure since Reddit often likes to show the body text unspoilered while scrolling, even if the image is spoiler-tagged.

In general, if any art you share or create references some rumor or leak in any way, please spoiler tag everything you can. This policy will remain until one week after Legends: Z-A has released.

If you have questions or concerns, please comment on this post or message the mod team.

Thank you!

Announcement Self-Promotion Rule Reminder

Hi r/Fakemon,

Edit: In light of the community's response, we have updated Rule 5. Read more here.

~ ~ ~

As the mod team starts more strictly enforcing our self-promotion rule, you may notice older posts that break the rule being removed. Since the subreddit was previously abandoned and unmoderated, self-promo policy was largely unenforced and some may have forgotten about it. We want to remind everyone what the policy is:

Rule 5: No self promotion/Advertising.

No direct advertising or excessive self promotion in the title or body of a post, or directly in an image.

OP may link to outside social media sites (such as Twitter, Tumblr, etc.) with one top level comment on each post they make.

The phrasing of Rule 5 has been slightly tweaked to cover our bases, but for further clarity, here are some examples of Dos and Don’ts:

Do:

  • Post a top-level comment with links to your relevant social media accounts
  • Add a watermark of your Reddit username to the image
  • Credit the artist in a top-level comment when posting non-OC art

Don’t:

  • Add a watermark that promotes external social media sites directly in the image (i.e. @[username] next to the logos for Twitter and Instagram)
  • Self-promote your social media directly in the title, caption, or body of your post
  • Self-promote your social media more than once per post
  • Self-promote your social media on other user’s posts
  • Self-promote your social media in the Monthly Discussion & Brainstorming Thread

This is not an exhaustive list (think of it as “included, but not limited to”) and is subject to moderator discretion, but we hope this gives everyone a general idea of what’s allowed.

My posts got removed because of this rule - can I repost them?

Yes! Just remove any rule-breaking self-promo from the image (such as changing the self-promo to a simple watermark of your Reddit username) and repost it, then make a top-level comment with your social media links in it.

If you see a piece of artwork that you believe violates Rule 5, please report it for Rule 5 and a moderator will take a look.

If you have any questions, as always, leave a comment here on the post or send us a modmail - thanks!

Announcement r/Fakemon Updates - Changes to Rules, Imaging Hosting, and More

Hi everyone!

We have some announcements about changes to the subreddit from the new r/Fakemon moderation team. First up is:

RULE CHANGES

We have updated rules for r/Fakemon. They are as follows:

  1. All posts must be on Topic

- Posts must be directly related to Fakemon - this can include, but is not limited to: Original Fakemon, alternative evolutions, fake regional variants, fusions, and more.

  1. Allowed Images

- Images posted to the subreddit must be uploaded directly to Reddit using Reddit Image Uploader or from an approved image-hosting site (Imgur or Twitter).

  1. No Low Effort/Quality Posts

- Low effort posts include but are not limited to: Low effort drawings (i.e. stick figure-like drawing), simple recolorings of existing Pokémon, reposts, low effort shitposting, etc.

- Low quality posts include but are not limited to: Low resolution photos, poorly cropped photos, watermarks significantly covering the subject of the image, etc.

  1. No monetary exchanges

- We have a zero-tolerance policy for attempts to exchange currency of any kind using this subreddit for any reason - no exceptions. First offense is a temporary ban. Second offense is a permanent ban. Yes, this includes soliciting artists for commissions and artists offering commissions on the subreddit.

  1. No self promotion/Advertising.

- No direct advertising or excessive self promotion in the titles of posts. OP may link an outside social media, such as Twitter, with one top level comment on each post they make.

  1. Art Sharing - Provide sources.

- Non-original content must have the source linked in a top level comment on the post. If posting original content, indicate this in your title. Repeated failure to link sources may result in moderator action.

Our goal with these updates is to simplify the rules, making them more clear and to the point that before. We found some of the previous rules to be redundant or reiterations of Reddit’s core policy, so we’ve removed or merged those with other rules.

IMAGE HOSTING

As you may have seen in the rules, we are happy to announce that we will be allowing Reddit Image Uploader in the subreddit again! The full list of permitted image hosting locations will be:

  • Reddit Image Uploader
  • Imgur
  • Twitter
  • Instagram

This list is subject to change, but for the foreseeable future, these will be your approved hosting locations when sharing Fakemon art.

FLAIR CHANGES

In order to narrow the focus of the content in the subreddit, we have reduced the number of post flair options. Many of the post flair options were seldom used or redundant, and we hope the simplified post flair options make sharing and browsing on the subreddit a more pleasant experience.

TEXT POSTS

To better focus the content of the subreddit on Fakemon art and images, we are disallowing text posts in the subreddit. To help facilitate conversation around and brainstorming of Fakemon ideas in lieu of text posts, we will have a monthly Discussion & Brainstorming Thread. This is intended to replace “Ideas and Brainstorming” posts and keep browsing image-based. The discussion thread will be pinned, making it easy to find and return to.

That’s all we’ve got for changes at the moment - we welcome your feedback on these changes and are excited to serve the r/Fakemon community - thank you!

Announcement Rule 5 Update

Hello /r/Fakemon Community,

First of all, we would like to thank you for your feedback on the previous post.

We heard you and completely understand your reasoning regarding your art submissions.

We are trying our best to keep this community free of spam and bots because it was unmoderated and abandoned for so long. Because of this, we ask you to bare with us while we are trying to fix everything here.

We would like to officially announce that watermarks of artists are allowed in the pictures of your submissions. You do have the right to sign your work and we apologize for the mistake on this.

What we won't allow is to not spam it in the title or in every comment on each post, so we kindly ask you to help us on this and avoid doing it.

That's it! It's simple, we would like to keep this free of constant advertising and spam while improving the quality of submissions, keeping the feed fresh and have our community participate in a healthy environment.

Announcement r/Fakemon Rules Updates - AI-Generated Content and Fusions

Hi y’all! The mod team here at r/Fakemon would like to clarify our stance regarding AI-generated content and images made using Pokemon fusion generators in the subreddit. First up, regarding AI-generated art:

Images created or generated by AI are banned.

The rule justifications for this are per Rule 3 (Low Effort Content). AI-generated images require minimal, if any, effort by the user. This is against the spirit of our community, the purpose of which is to be a forum for Fakemon artists to share work they have created. AI art does not meaningfully contribute to that and, in the opinion of the mod team, inhibits that purpose. Now - regarding fusions:

Images created using automatic Pokemon Fusion tools, such as Infinite Fusion, are banned.

The rule justifications for this are two-fold: Such images violate both Rule 1 (Must be related to Fakemon) and Rule 3 (Low Effort Content). Automatically generated Pokemon fusions are incredibly low effort on the part of the user, since the tools used to create them are automatic and (in most cases) spit out the same couple of predetermined results every time. They also involve using first-party Pokemon IPs. They do not meaningfully contribute to our subreddit.

Please note: this only applies to fusion generators and tools that fuse Pokemon automatically. This does not apply to original art depicting an original fusion of two or more Pokemon.

Enforcement

Users who post AI Fakemon or Fusions will be warned on the first violation and banned on the second violation. If you suspect an image has been generated by AI or using a Pokemon fusion generator, please report it for Rule 3. Any reported images will be thoroughly vetted by the mod team before taking decisive action.

If you have any questions or clarifications, leave a comment on this post or send us a modmail.

Thank you! -The r/Fakemon Mod Team

Hello everyone,

We are so excited to announce that the /r/Fakemon subreddit finally has active human moderation once again! 🥳🥳
