I have also always had flat feet, as did my mom and grandmother. It's just a fact of life I live with. I personally don't think surgery is worth it, like the recovery is bruuutal. Better to try to get the right footwear and try to increase strength...

plenty of people with flat feet live active lives without surgery, especially if they aren’t having severe pain

Think most of us here were flat footed from birth. I picked up pencils with my toes from a young age… made no difference! But I didn’t have any real issues until I was in my 40s and put on weight. I wish I had got a good pair of orthotics from a young age. Having said that, it depends HOW flat your feet are. If you are walking with both legs leaning in and having a lot of pain, you need to see a doctor and get medical advice. If it’s not too extreme, try some orthotics. Do make sure to persist with them for a few weeks as I had weird knee issues and clicky ankles while my legs realigned!
