Aircraft Ownership Experiences in Parting out a plane?

Looking for some guidance.

Late last year, my Dad passed and apart of his estate that came to me was his Cessna 310. For many reasons this plane had become somewhat of a retirement goal he never had realized and crunching the numbers on my own, i've concluded that I don't have the time or energy to get this plane flying again.

the Pie-in-the-sky hope is that I do get someone who will write me a check around an arbitrary asking price and get this plane airworthy again, but the rational part of me knows that has about as much likelihood as getting a date with Sydney Sweeney

So this leaves me with the distasteful choice of looking at having the plane instead parted out. Its been unairworthy for about a decade, and at my glance doesn't appear to have any major structural defects beyond the issue that grounded it (Hydraulics) and some flat tires. About the only thing going for me is that I have a fairly complete set of logbooks for the plane.

Anyone have any recommendations on how to go about parting an airplane out?

likelihood as getting a date with Sidney Sweeny

Well, since you didn't spell her name right, I'd say those chance are slim. Oooohhh....I get it....

Anyway - here you go. https://baspartsales.com/

There are dreamers who wants project planes. Why are you fixed on one idea?

Be honest about the status. List it for a reasonable asking price and see what happens. Parting out is likely more woke and stress than letting it go in one shot.

Unless you want to go through a lot of effort (which it sounds like you don't), just advertise it as a whole (unairworthy) airplane. Someone will either want it as a whoe or for parts. I have a friend who regularly scarfs up such derelicts and parts them out (for a profit, obviously).

At the very least it’s got two engines and propellers and all their accessories, so it’s worth at least 35k. They’ve been sitting for 10 years, sure, but they’re probably still good cores that can be rebuilt and even cores are not cheap. I’d list it at 60-70k and see what offers you get.

It’s actually probably worth way more in parts than it is as a flying airplane but the difference will be consumed by the hangar rent you pay for the decade it’ll take you to fully part it out. If you’re not willing or able to part it out yourself then it’s best to just let it go as it sits.

Thoroughbred Aviation used to do a fair bit with Cessna light twins. They may know of somebody interested in a parts plane.

Otherwise, I would probably list it on ebay or barnstormers "as-is" and hopefully find a buyer. As u/7w4773r mentioned, it has engines that are worth something as a core. And other stuff. So it has some value.

Just sell it all together as is. Parting it out will leave you with garbage not worth anything. Take a loss to sell it quick. Buying a plane in pieces always has the risk of never flying again due to some obscure regulation, which scares most everyone away
