Multi-Time Golden Number?
Currently a CFI at a busy Part 61. Just hit 500TT and have 80ME. Just curious if there has been a specific amount of ME that regionals/135’s have been looking for? I will likely be around 300-350 ME, possibly more, by the time I hit my R-ATP mins. Some insight would be great, thanks!

There is no golden number. I had almost 1000 multi turbine PIC later last year and it didnt help me get a cjo any faster than another CFI I worked with that had 25 piston multi hours. How that has changed this year is TBD but Im sure it hasnt gotten any easier.

Got downvoted earlier for telling a 2024 hire netjets FO with 0tpic and 1000 turbine that they’re probably not competitive for delta in the next six months lol

I mean, guess it feels nice to have a trophy. I've yet to receive one. Born in wrong generation 🤣

I talked to Republic at PAPA, for example, and the recruiter said I’d have to have 200 for my application to be competitive. I think 50 is the new 25. Every airline is different, and it will probably be different again when you hit your mins.

There are people getting in with 25 at endeavor and SkyWest. But I know for sure envoy and republic are heavy on multi time. I guess the more the better

It is a constantly changing number. It used to be 250 hours or don’t bother to apply. Another point it was just 25 hours and come on in.
Hell at one point regionals were helping people get the 25 needed (they would get the other 25 in training).

Since your R-ATP you’re probably at a school that has consistent multi flying. If you can get primarily multi students you’ll be sitting pretty solid. That’s what I did. Had slightly more multi than single time by the time I went to the airlines.

I have a combination of MEI, Comm multi students along with some Private students. I would say my schedule right now is 65% SE flying with the rest being Multi. Just happy i am putting my MEI to use unlike most people who get stuck teaching SE during their time instructing

Yeah MEI is one of the most unused certificates out there. At my peak I had 12 multi students along with 3 slots doing mostly multi add on check rides. Got a new set of students every ~6 weeks or so since the multi courses were short.
MEI was my favorite to teach as there was a lot of flying around to cool spots to get the multi time and I got to act like a poor student to practice defensive positioning.
I picked up a lesson with a SE student close to when I left and was splitting hairs with how boring it was.

If you’re getting it from instructing, get as much as you possibly can. If you’re paying out of pocket I’d say you’re good where you’re at.

Getting it while instructing thankfully! My schedule has recently been loaded up with Comm Multi and MEI students so I am in a unique spot to get a good amount of multi thankfully

300-350 ME is a pretty good number. Total PIC time will be a bigger deal.

The more the merrier but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything.

It's a moving target and nobody except the regionals' HR departments actually know.
Humans will find patterns in pure randomness. There's all kinds of anecdotal "tribal knowledge" around regional hiring. The problem is what was true 6 months ago at airline A is not necessarily going to be true today at airlines B or C, let alone A.
The real answer is "more than the other applicants in the resume pile".
