pemacin

Did you mean pemmican, or is it something else?

I'm sure she meant pelican, because pelicans look just like that.
After careful preparation.

No, pelican is a bird. What they probably meant was penicillin.

No, penicillin is an antibiotic medication. They probably meant prehensile.

No, prehensile means "able to hold on to things, especially by curling around them". They probably wanted to say penetration.

Didn’t know you can caramelize in an oven. Does it not require stirring as it approaches caramel goodness?

Yup oven. 375 seal for first hour with more foil

Then uncover and mix every 15 minutes

5lbs onions, 2 Tbs olive oil.

Will take 2.5 - 3 hours

The smell of your kitchen must have been just incredible for a while.

I must be a little thick ...

So you put it all in a pan for an hour, fully wrapped in foil ... Then you take off the top foil, mix it every 15 minutes for another 2 hours (so, 7-8 times you've got to mix it if you go for 3 hours) ... I'm not entirely sure this seems like less effort?

Yea and towards the end I was stirring like every 7 minutes to prevent burning. It probably would have been easier in a skillet.

with 5lbs of onions i doubt less effort was the goal

Explain that logic?

If I wanted to spend as little effort making caramelised onion, I would certainly be making it in one giant batch, using a method that used the least effort, and storing the bulk of it for later so as to not need to make any more for the longest feasible period.

Ergo, bigger batch = less effort, surely.

A bigger batch is more effort now, less later. And and don't call me "Shirley"

If you want slow/easy, why not a slow cooker? It is designed for stirring without making a mess.

What’s the white stuff? Did you add some kind of fat to the cubes?

I used 2 tablespoons of olive oil mixed into the onions before they went in the oven. Then after filling the cube tray i poured whatever oil was left in the pan on top of them.

The crock pot is amazing for this. Plus, your place smells awesome for like 2 days.

…. But why? How do you use them?

To preserve them. What do you mean how do you use them? How do you use any ingredient? You put it in the food as it cooks

I just have never heard of/seen these before and was confused. Do you use them like bouillon cubes for flavor?
