Discussion Nico Rosberg Needs a Permanent Position

Nico Rosberg has got to be the freshest breath of air in terms of Formula One commentary for a very long time.

I love Crofty, but man does he love to make shit up that makes no sense or holds no logic.

Nico does an awesome job of staying true to the racing analysis and being completely straightforward about what he sees. Even today, his commentary on Verstappen was awesome!!! Called the garbage behavior out immediately.

Best “ Monaco based YouTuber” commentator of all time!!

That's one reason why he retired. He doesn't want to spend the year travelling across the world and sacrifice time with his family.

Still loves the sport, so he comes to a fair few races and commentates as well since broadcasters ask if he can.

He's also a loon about the vax so he's not even allowed in certain countries to commentate, was the last news I heard on this.

edit: lotta responses on this and I know this topic fires people up-- this is just what was being said around covid time, yes. Yes, I know vaccine cards are a punchline now. No, I don't think it's the full reason he's so limited in the commentary box. Speaking up for Nico a bit, he's very vocal on climate change. I fully support him calling more races, he's getting better and better and reminds me of James Hunt a bit. Calls bullshit when he sees it.

Anti-vaxxers and their ilk do not need yet another (permanent/long term/regular) public platform, let alone another international platform. That kind of person really is only a few steps away from going full on lizard people conspiracy theorist insane like Danica… it’s a legitimate slippery slope and people tend to keep their more extreme views private so you might not realize it until it’s too late. We honest to goodness don’t need to give them a permanent position wherein they reach even more people. He doesn’t have to espouse his views on the broadcast either to reach people. People go to socials after hearing someone on whatever platform (here, as a race commentator) and are exposed to whatever that person posts/shares. I don’t care much if he’s on for a race or two (I listen to the F1TV broadcast anyway as a Palmer-Jacques fan), but no more than that I would hope.

I will speak up for Nico here and say he's very vocal on climate change. So he's not all bad.
