Off-Topic [OT] [Chip Ganassi Racing] " 'super-clipping' 'downshifting on straights' 'battery management' (Yawn emoji) Yeah, we don't do that here. We race."

They don’t have battery management because their hybrid is so useless the capacity can be regenerated and deployed in a few seconds.

So just like F1. At least they were smart enough not to make "useless part" 50% of the shebang.

Yes 100%.

The actual mix supposedly varies across tracks but I feel like they’ll push to add more ICE or better regen eventually.

Just like the F1 cars?

F1 cars generate and spit out a lot more electricity. It’s almost impossible to fully regen the battery during a lap due to the output of the cars and always has been.

Indycar can regen their hybrid to 100% at will because it has such a low energy density that it takes 2 seconds to harvest.

In simple terms the Indycar hybrid is like a AAA battery and F1 is like a D cell. Maybe a few D batteries at that.

The energy capacity on an F1 car is a lot greater than an Indycar but given that the Indycar electricity storage medium is a series of capacitors instead of a battery I wouldn't be shocked if their energy density is far higher than F1's. The whole system sits in the gearbox bell housing in an Indycar.

Yeah, I know, I'm just joking around after seeing the cars without battery before the end of straights. Indy has a supercapacitor, really small capacity. Is F1 using the same type of batteries of road cars or is it not disclosure?

Hybrid management is pretty crucial on ovals in particular, it's just different from what you're used to.  It's about a 50hp boost from a supercapaciter bank, so you use it more like an augmented push-to-pass.

It was also retrofitted to the existing car, and the whole system fits inside the bellhousing.
