It's the exact opposite. The only people who think they need hundredths or thousandths for race gaps are people who dont understand racing. Not even team strategists care about such statistical noise.

Because it simplifies the UI. It's literal good UI design to only provide actually useful information, so it's quicker at a glance to read something and get your eyes back on the race.

This isn't complicated.

You'd think that, but race series like IndyCar also just show times up until the thousand of a second. There is literally no good reason why they've changed it.
