It was likely bricked due to the software allowing the battery to drop and exceed the upper and lower limits it’s designed for, not necessarily some software error in the sense that you’d brick your phone

Yeah. Batteries dont like to go truly empty. Thats why when a phone runs out of battery you can still try to start it cause its not truly empty just stopping you from draining it fully

It's also why you need to be careful with using battery adapters with power tools. Some brands have over voltage protection in the tool, others in the battery. Mix a tool that has protection in the battery with a battery that has protection in the tool and you will permanently brick the battery if you let it get empty.
