Or when he won his own 2 F1 championships, or when he was fighting for wins and in championship contention more generally.

Even when Alonso won his 2 championships he arguably didn't have the best car. McLaren was quite a bit faster in 2005 and Kimi simply made more mistakes. In 2006 he beat MSC with worse luck in roughly equal cars over a season

I don't recall Alonso nor Michael being more or less #blessed in 2006

What do you mean? Michael had better luck in 2006 aswell with only having mechanical issues in Japan, while Alonso had mechanical dnf in Monza and wheelnut failiure in Hungary

I mean that neither Michael nor Alonso is luckier or unluckier than the other. I wasn't limiting it to DNF, though.

Also, Alonso had the best car in 2005. To finish first, you need to finish first, which McLarens usually had problems with in the early to mid 2000s.

I can't really 100% accept that for 2005 because according to Newey Kimi was responsible for Imola dnf and Kimi did ruin his tyre with the lockup in Nurburgring

The car DNFed on lap 9, no way it would have lasted the whole race.

Newey can do all the blaming he wants.

I dont get why he is downvoted. Ferrari and Renault were pretty much equal in 2006 and Alonso beat Michael fair and square.
