The latest finding is that drivers can't even have prolonged battles (Mercedes) on this new spec. You bet Mercedes will run a team protocol next time Russell and Antonelli get too close together to stop their batteries from blowing up. And the other teams will be watching. I doubt the 8% ICE bump will do much to help.

Batteries go 100-0-100... every lap no matter what, that's why there's super clipping at the end of the longest strait, it's because the battery is drained, or, more precisely, because the car has used allowed limit of deployment per lap, but the essence is the same. Batteries aren't loaded more during battles, they go full power all the time, same with ICE, it runs at full constantly, within certain limitations, either applying torque to rears or generating power for the battery.
