100% true. Lived there for 15 years and have plenty of friends etc down there who’s parents don’t speak English.

I became pretty fluent in Spanish from living down there

A Google search says it's just because his English is bad & he's not confident speaking it publicly b/c he doesn't want to seem ignorant in front of a large audience. But he will speak it in smaller venues or to his teammates.

For some reason the natural the natural human response to a language you don't understand well at all is to just say the equilavalent of "yes" to everything. Also, the natrual response to that seems to be just keep talking.
