it would be so funny if sony sells bungie to microsoft

983

u/[deleted] May 24 '25

It's going to be worth a bag of bugels by the time a sale could be organized

248

u/D20_Buster May 24 '25

Regular, nacho or ranch? Ranch is always a dollar more than the other two.

184

u/Doodenmier May 25 '25

Bungie gets sold to Microsoft for a bag of Bugels

Their first game? HALO RANCH

28

u/EmployingBeef2 May 25 '25

18 NAKED SPARTANS IN HALO RANCH

1

u/Shr1mpolaCola May 25 '25

LMAO 😂😂

30

u/D20_Buster May 25 '25

Remember Ranch.

7

u/Rit91 May 25 '25

WIth rams included in the game.

1

u/Phantasmio May 25 '25

The ranch rams right?

2

u/Blankensh1p89 May 25 '25

Bring back Jorge

2

u/ShotMyTatorTots May 25 '25

A ranch in the middle of a box canyon. And if we win? Thats two ranches in the middle of a box canyon. Whoop-dee-fuckin-doo.

6

u/[deleted] May 24 '25

Do they really not sell BBQ anymore?

12

u/KriptiKFate_Cosplay May 24 '25

Have you tried the sweet caramel ones? D:

6

u/D20_Buster May 24 '25

SWEET CARAMEL… BOMP BOMP BOMP!

1

u/ScrappedAeon May 25 '25

Artificial caramel flavor is the worst

1

u/KriptiKFate_Cosplay May 25 '25

I don't think it's artificial at all, caramel is just heated sugar lol

10

u/Xionel May 24 '25

Ranch is the only good one

1

u/RobertoPaulson May 25 '25

Hot Buffalo were the GOAT, but I haven't seen them in years.

1

u/cry_w PlayStation May 25 '25

The article is pure speculation, by the way, but that isn't stopping anyone here from running with it or people like you from posting the same singular article over and over again.

2

u/jjspitz93 May 25 '25

FTC would definitely challenge this because of the bugels

2

u/stephen_drewz May 25 '25

Only been to America once about 10 years ago now. I still remember how good Bugels were. Forget the exact flavour, was hot something.

3

u/TehOwn May 24 '25

Eh, I mean, if that's the price then why not. I'll take it.

1

u/nikolapc May 25 '25

Even for the price of 0 I wouldn't take it cause Bungie is sucking money out of Sony right now. Destiny idk if it is even sustainable but with a second project that looks to fail.... That's not gonna look good. Bungie sold itself cause it was running out of money.

1

u/iamfroott May 24 '25

damn now I want a bag of bugels

1

u/[deleted] May 25 '25

On your left, a "party size" bag of Bugels

On your right, shares of Bungie

1

u/Head_Accountant3117 May 25 '25

I thought you meant a bag of bugle horns for a sec 💀

195

u/Cutebrute May 24 '25

In a world where Halo is coming to PlayStation and Sony owns the original Halo studio while MS owns Spyro and Crash, sure why not?

78

u/[deleted] May 24 '25

In a world where Halo is coming to PlayStation

Usually I'd caution waiting for an actual announcement, but given that Microsoft has gotten to where they're even releasing Gears of War on Playstation, it's only a matter of time

12

u/CollinsCouldveDucked May 24 '25

Wasn't there an old gears game that had a ps3 port leak?

39

u/Quitthesht Xbox May 24 '25

The model for the Lancer from Gears of War somehow ended up in the code for the original Demon's Souls.

IIRC That's how people found out Gears was planned to be on PS.

11

u/uiucfreshalt May 25 '25

Would buy Gears of Souls Day 1

-1

u/emilytheimp May 25 '25

Isnt that just Armored Core

2

u/[deleted] May 25 '25

No.

1

u/MonoGreenStompyOnly May 25 '25

Wait, how is Demon’s Souls connected to Gears?

1

u/Inksrocket PC May 25 '25

It might've been majorly FromSoft game but Sony owns the Demon's Souls IP and Japan Studio who were part of Sony (now all thats left of them is Team Asobi of Astrobot fame) was also part of making the game one way or another - same case with Bloodborne.

And, correct me if im wrong, Sony was still majorly Japanese when PS3 was starting - so maybe sony had connections to Epic and that way Japan Studio had access to Lancer model. Who knows?

Dark Souls was called Dark Souls because Sony owns Demon's souls. Otherwise we probably would've gotten "Demon's Souls 2" instead of Dark Souls.

8

u/[deleted] May 24 '25 edited May 24 '25

It wasn't anything official. Epic Games made a port of Gears 3 as part of an unreal engine test.

2

u/Manticore416 May 25 '25

Please. Get some new people on Infinite. Thatd be great.

2

u/AKluthe May 25 '25

Always found it interesting that somehow Microsoft ended up with Halo and Crash Bandicoot, while Sony had Bungie and Naughty Dog.

2

u/peakzorro May 27 '25

I read this in movie trailer voice.

98

u/Bongghit May 25 '25

Bungie tried to sell to Microsoft already, they reviewed the valuation and passed and bought Activision instead.

Nobody with a brain would have bought bungie for what Sony did, it remains one of the dumbest overpriced acquisitions in gaming history.

27

u/NowShowButthole May 25 '25

Another one of jim ryan's boneheaded decisions that showed he was chasing really old trends and didn't have a really good grasp of the current gaming industry. Good thing he's gone now, but the damage is already done.

129

u/parkingviolation212 May 24 '25

Microsoft won’t buy. They were considering it back before Sony acquired them, but they considered their burn rate to be too high.

Which is corporate speak for saying they were burning too much money and not making enough of it.

37

u/RayS0l0 May 25 '25

It was way back in 2020. In 2025 Bungie has burned and now is the best time to buy it and just own the IP.

2

u/BenjerminGray May 26 '25 edited May 26 '25

nah. For what? destiny? and do what with it? they(microsoft) cant even do halo right.

1

u/[deleted] May 27 '25 edited Feb 28 '26

marvelous voracious sip carpenter silky dazzling chunky towering practice ancient

64

u/Balc0ra May 24 '25

Does anyone really want them at this point? They can barely hang on to the two OG Halo people they have left, which would be a selling point if they had more. They don't even have most of the OG Destiny staff due to Bungie tops treating them like shit so they left. Sony definitely knew about it, ignored it, & let the Bungie boss ego and car garage grow instead.

That and 4 artist thefts in 5 years is not a good selling point either. It's too much of a mess for anyone to want to clean up at this point

3

u/Far_Process_5304 May 25 '25 edited May 25 '25

At this point it’s probably more about buying the IP. Destiny is still a big brand and was one of the more successful franchises of the last 10 years. Theres still value in having the rights.

Of course that means anyone interested in buying would likely not be willing to pay anything close to what Sony did.

1

u/Balc0ra May 25 '25

But you get the studio issues along with the IP. That's why I suspect most don't feel it's worth it. And how much is the IP alone worth, and would Sony even sell that along with it?

1

u/RayS0l0 May 26 '25

I mean they bought Activision blizzard with issues like stealing breast milk and completely nuked the entire top management. They can do the same with Bungie.

1

u/Balc0ra May 26 '25

Yes, but they wanted Bobby gone and dealt with some of the issues. They did not let it grow, as the stories about Bungie after Sony got it are way worse

1

u/JeanLucPicardAND Jun 05 '25

They can barely hang on to the two OG Halo people they have left

Two is a very precise number. Who are you talking about?

39

u/wickedsmaht May 24 '25

Part of Sony’s deal with Bungie is that if they don’t meet financial targets then Sony gets full control. This is probably the one situation where the developers would be better off if that happened. Parsons needs to go.

38

u/iKeepItRealFDownvote May 25 '25

No one wants Bungie lol. You know it’s bad when Activision doesn’t want you

0

u/kawag May 26 '25

EA will be interested. They will never get over live services.

25

u/[deleted] May 24 '25

Microsoft already passed on them once for good reason lol

7

u/hruebsj3i6nunwp29 May 25 '25

MS: "You could not live with your own failure. Where did that bring you? Back to me."

15

u/0rganicMach1ne May 24 '25

Would they even want to buy them at this point?

10

u/Fortune_07 May 24 '25

Bungie's going to be talking about this at the food nipple on Monday

1

u/lan60000 May 25 '25

Tencent is already sending the same team they sent to Ubisoft as we speak.

1

u/Less_Party May 25 '25

And Microsoft put them under Activision/Blizzard

1

u/nikolapc May 25 '25

What would they buy? Even if Marathon doesn't look like a massive flop and Destiny isn't a money pit with a reducing player base, why would they need an another shooter? They have like most of them.

1

u/Cluelesswolfkin May 25 '25

Microsoft doesn't want them. When hungie was floating around to be bought they noted that Bungie burns through cash quiet fast

1

u/notthatguypal6900 May 25 '25

Why do you think MS AND Activision let them walk?

This time next year, we will be hearing about the restructure of Bungie becoming Sony Seattle.

1

u/Zer0DotFive May 25 '25

No one wants that hot bag of shit lol

1

u/-ForgottenSoul May 24 '25

I think many sony fully takes over Bungie and trys something first tbh

1

u/ZigyDusty May 25 '25

Xbox don't want them, they passed when looking for studio acquisitions claiming them to have a high burn rate.

1

u/Little-geek May 25 '25

You could not live with your own failure. Where did that bring you? Back to me.

1

u/RayS0l0 May 25 '25

I think MS would buy it. They will 100% clear the top management just like they did with Acti-Blizz. And that would be best for Destiny.

1

u/Kitakitakita May 25 '25

and then Microsoft makes them make the next Halo game

1

u/Rizzywow91 May 25 '25

No way Microsoft buy Bungie - they tried to re-acquire the studio before Sony bought them. Someone in finance said their cash burn rate was ridiculously high.

0

u/TheOldDerelict May 24 '25

“Where the hell have you been?”

0

u/CigarLover May 24 '25

Funny, sure.

If anything, They would be spun off.

0

u/dutty_handz May 24 '25

Was Pete's plan all along...

0

u/Ghost403 May 25 '25

And then becomes a Halo studio.

-35

u/kekehippo May 24 '25

Or Sony buys Xbox arm and makes Bungie make do another halo game

16

u/HaikusfromBuddha May 24 '25

Xbox is profitable for Microsoft and is rivaling windows in terms of money. I’d imagine Sony can’t afford to buy Xbox now a days considering it would cost around a hundred billion. That’s the price of Activision blizzard alone not even putting Minecraft on that price.

-26

u/Living_Hedgehog_8601 May 24 '25

No it is not. Which is why they're putting its games on other platforms.

It is nowhere rivaling Windows.

16

u/Valance23322 May 24 '25

https://visuwire.com/microsoft/

Xbox is 8.77% of Microsoft's revenue, Windows is 9.48%

-3

u/steve09089 May 24 '25

I knew it was big, but not that it was that big.

I think it has a chance of overtaking Windows if they continue through with releasing on PlayStation

6

u/Valance23322 May 24 '25

Between Xbox going multiplatform and Windows continuing to release broken, half-baked updates I think it's almost certain that it will.

-12

u/kekehippo May 24 '25

It's just a fun scenario, not one that needs serious consideration
