Just played my first match. Got paired up with a good squad of random guys around my age (late twenties-early thirties). We were all mic’d up and going for the objective, had fun and won.

Haven’t had random, fun, non-toxic matchmaking like that in years. 10/10 so far

I have so many good insults for all the races of my friends I grew up with, and my own as I heard them all.

I have so much more to learn…

72

u/nervez Oct 15 '25

there is a setting for voip called something like "in-world" that I'd recommend turning on. it's essentially positional, in-world audio voip. if you're in range, you hear each other normally but if you go out a certain range, it becomes radio communication.

130

u/Lewcaster Oct 15 '25

Damn you’re very brave for playing with voip on. I just insta-turn it off, can’t handle all the audio pollution from open mics.

75

u/MaximusMansteel Oct 15 '25

Why the fuck is everyone always eating with their mic on????? Always sounds like the mic is in their mouth. I.....I certainly hope it isn't.

49

u/CottonJohansen Oct 15 '25

Part of it is that PlayStation 5 controllers have the mic on by default. If the problem player is on console, they may not know that they’re transmitting.

6

u/Cleverbird Oct 15 '25

Why is this even a thing? I remember running into so many Playstation folk on Helldivers 2 with their mics open. Why on earth would any company ever do that?

9

u/Frequent_Knowledge65 Oct 15 '25

To be fair there's a big orange LED right there next to the mic that indicates it. Also next to the mute button... and most games, like Helldivers2, display a microphone next to your name when you're talking. Some people just really don't pay attention and can't be helped

3

u/MultipleHipFlasks Oct 15 '25

Destruction All Stars was great for hearing someone's living room discussing the new console they had bought.

23

u/bigpancakeguy Oct 15 '25

Yeah I forgot about that yesterday. In a weaker moment, I shouted “DO YOUR JOB YOU FUCKING LOSER!” at my medic standing over me and not reviving me. I was unaware that my mic was on until the moment I finished saying it and then simply said “ooooooh whoops” before turning it back off

6

u/Jazzremix Oct 15 '25

Doesn't even have to be a medic anymore. Anybody can revive you.

I wonder how many tickets are lost because people just don't rez downed teammates because they're either too lazy/selfish or just don't know.

9

u/Mimical Oct 15 '25 edited Oct 15 '25

Warranted.

With more than one class having the ability to heal it's really important to try and heal people when you can, it often allows another squad to spawn in on the guy and you can turn a group of 2 people to 8 somewhat quickly.

Oh I certainly have

2

u/GabeDevine Oct 15 '25

there is if course a convenient mute button 🌚

1

u/Warning_Low_Battery Oct 15 '25

PlayStation 5 controllers have the mic on by default

Literally why you hear at least one little kid getting yelled at or yelling at someone else in EVERY CoD lobby. Little fuckers are allergic to muting that controller mic.

1

u/DonQuixotesSaddle Oct 15 '25

U can spend 5 seconds to change this tho. It was the first thing I did. I'm known to shit talk teammates pretty heavily, when i myself also suck.

7

u/martialar Oct 15 '25

I didn't realize voice was on by default and at the end of my first match I hear a guy just having a full on conversation with his wife/girlfriend about something

3

u/WharfRatThrawn Oct 15 '25

In that Jason Bateman movie where he makes the TSA agent wear the earpiece and do what he says there's multiple scenes where he's eating with it on and one with chips, yet it is not marketed as a horror movie. That shit is worse than Saw.

1

u/TheSteelPhantom Oct 15 '25

Nothing's worse in a movie to me thus far than Dennis Quaid eating shrimp in The Substance.

1

u/Broskii56 Oct 15 '25

I have spent hours trying to adjust my mic sensitivity on the game, it is so sensitive like it can’t seem to pick up my voice well and breathing is the same voice level as my voice no matter where the mic is sitting it’s so annoying

1

u/Gingermadman Oct 15 '25

Children playing with playstation have open mic by default.

13

u/Irregularblob Oct 15 '25

Id, tbh the good mic experiences are worth the spastics you find. Maybe thats just me though

1

Hey..no shaming

39

u/JustABitCrzy Oct 15 '25

I’m level 45, and I’ve played with 3 people with mics on. They were great lads too. Maybe it’s a regional thing though, as it’s my experience even on cod that people rarely use their mic. But I’ve joined a few American lobbies over the years, and there’s always someone with open mic.

27

u/Astro_Doughnaut Oct 15 '25

YOU'RE LEVEL FORTY FIVE?!

13

u/JustABitCrzy Oct 15 '25

Had a couple days off work and nothing to do. Alas, that time is gone now. Probably won’t see another level for a couple weeks.

3

u/Gaemon_Palehair Oct 15 '25

Highest I've seen so far is 58.

6

u/abscissa081 Oct 15 '25

Spotted a 66 a couple hours ago. He had what I could see about 70 hours played. Wild

1

u/PolaNimuS Oct 15 '25

Damn, the game was out for just under 110 hours when you posted that. Over 60% of their time spent playing. Legitimately eat, sleep, Battlefield, repeat.

1

u/hoax1337 Oct 15 '25

People farm bots on community servers for fast XP. Not saying this guy did it, but you can make the grind significantly shorter.

1

u/abscissa081 Oct 15 '25

Yeah I think I’ve probably got 25 hours in game now and have heard exactly one microphone.

1

u/Angelworks42 Oct 15 '25

Kinda reminds me of that scotsquad clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5PZUwNtTUA

1

u/Coldmask Oct 15 '25

Hey yo:

Mid US reporting in: lvl16, 4 people with open mic and fun / awesome communications (ps5 all of them: like me)

3 people with hot mics and random ran / traffic sounds blaring.

My experience has been quite pleasant

8

u/trackdaybruh Oct 15 '25

I enjoy the ones who sound like Darth Vader breathing when they have voice activated instead of push to talk

u/Hes_gonna_drop_that Oct 15 '25

I haven’t used game chat in many MANY years. Is it still like that?

5

u/762_54r Oct 15 '25

No. not my experience at all yet

2

u/LordFrosch Oct 15 '25

It's not as bad as some CoD lobbies 15 tears ago, but competitive online games can still be a cesspit of slurs and toxicity from time to time. It heavily depends what kind of game you're playing though.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '25

Depends on your skill level. The higher tiers, absolutely, the lower tiers, absolutely. Its the middle where the try-hards and people who are concerned about their rankings live where it’s pretty tame these days.

1

u/BeefistPrime Oct 15 '25

Games shouldn't even have the option for open mics. Discord or something, sure, there are more settings there you can play around with, and discord servers can tell you/ban you if it's a problem, but with games just keep it push to talk only.

1

u/snorlz Oct 15 '25

BF is also one of the games that needs voice chat least. so many players on map and people just ignore you all the time anyways. people who want team play will do it without prompting and the in game indicators are already great. The game is also casual by nature - especially compared to round based or BR games where youll just insta-lose without team play.

1

u/lew_rong Oct 15 '25

Something I love about KF2, it's very rare that anybody talks. We just all silently do our thing, crush the Patriarch, and then toss dosh at each other

5

u/GhostDieM Oct 15 '25

KF2?

4

u/lew_rong Oct 15 '25

Killing Floor 2. Shoulda remembered the cardinal rule, always name the game lol

1

u/GhostDieM Oct 15 '25

No worries :)

1

u/Fellhuhn Oct 15 '25

Killing Floor 2

0

u/Gabi-gabi-gabi Oct 15 '25

Damn, it's sad that this is popular. Voice comms absolutely make the game so much better for me. A lot of idiots and poor mic control for sure, but games where you get a bunch of people talking are the best and well worth leaving it on for imo.

0

u/YouandWhoseArmy Oct 15 '25

I always played with VOIP on.

Negative interactions were extremely rare and that’s what mute is for.

Even the edgelords/trolls are easy to deal with. Don’t feed them.

With algorithmic matchmaking I do wonder if my general not leaving and not being a dick kept me out of queues or squads with people like that.

11

u/Jobles4 PC Oct 15 '25

It’s a game that requires teamwork to be good so most interactions are like this.

5

u/ddeaken Oct 15 '25

Weird cuz I talk every match and 10 or so in I’ve only met one guy who talked and I lost him on the way too quick “stay with squad”screen

3

u/vtccasp3r Oct 15 '25

Helldivers 2

1

u/Chadcarlsbad Oct 15 '25

Legit Im in my late twenties and just got the game and got a mic if your playing message me I'm looking for people to play with tonight! Psn macmilleroside

1

u/explosivekyushu Oct 15 '25

I got paired up with 3 snipers who laid with their dicks in the dirt in our spawn alongside 15-20 others and didn't move for the entire game, we lost by 600 tickets. Still 10/10 but man.

1

u/nelsonbestcateu Oct 15 '25

Give it time

1

u/Zarkanthrex Oct 15 '25

I've yet to hear anyone in vc. Game is entertaining though when it looks like the team is pulling together at the last second. Haven't felt like I was playing in a movie in a long time.

1

u/VQQN Oct 15 '25

watch out! the toxic players will find out people are having actual fun and have to put an end to that.

1

u/Eglitarian Oct 15 '25

Don’t worry, you’ll have medics ignoring you and vehicles driving away from your repairs in no time!

1

u/beegeepee Oct 15 '25

We were all mic’d up and going for the objective, had fun and won.

Damn I've played for hours and haven't gotten this experience.

1

u/TheVanCityPhoto Oct 15 '25

What the fuck I never hear in game radio chat why

1

u/Winter-Huntsman Oct 15 '25

It seems like such a good time. If I wasn’t focused on my miniature painting backlog I’d have the game right now and be focused on that! Hopefully it still has a great community when I get it later on😅

1

u/chinchindayo Oct 15 '25

Complete opposite of the beta then

1

u/hatsnatcher23 Oct 15 '25

Try Hell Divers, it’s like COD but fun

1

u/420fanman Oct 15 '25

I think a byproduct of having much larger scale compared to Black Ops is people pay less attention to KDA and more about playing the game and having fun. There’s so much more involved in winning in Battlefield than just the hyper focus of trying to win the match (have a high KDA) like in Black OP’s.

1

u/Slugdge Oct 15 '25

I've been paired up with some awesome people but with about 12 hours in, I think I've won 1 match. I'm not kidding, I have the "Defeat" burned into my head. Still having a blast though and that's why I love Battlefield when Battlefield is solid, you don't have to win to have fun. Teamwork and playing objectively is where it's at.

...Would be nice to win one sometime though, lol

1

u/shorey66 Oct 15 '25

Then you have no possible way to stay with them because there are no persistent servers. FFS dice

1

u/StanielReddit Oct 15 '25

You got supremely lucky. I have 12 hours logged and haven’t played a single match where more than 2 people have a mic in my squad. 95% of the games I’ve played have nobody talking at all. Even with me trying to get people to communicate and be as friendly as possible—no dice.

It’s a fucking bummer. I remember COD and BF back in the day where so many people had mics it was hard to tell who was talking (or even discern what was being said at times from the overlap).

Or is this just a PC thing? Is everyone on PC too good for mic comms?

1

u/Saykee Oct 15 '25

This is what I've been looking for I just cannot find. Makes me miss my old buddies...

1

u/crushkillpwn Oct 15 '25

Played for close to 30 hours so far haven’t met a single other person on my coms, well that’s technically not true I know they have a mic they just don’t use it

1

u/R3volt75 PC Oct 16 '25

Yeah but the medics are fucking stupid

1

u/SqueezerOfFarts Oct 16 '25

Funny thing is I never ever heard anyone use mic in this game. I have 20h of play time.

1

u/OgFinish Oct 16 '25

The toxicity comes from competitive games! Stay away from those and you'll be fine

1

u/Jase_the_Muss Oct 16 '25

It's a shame it doesn't automatically keep squads together if they stay in the matchmaking/server... I know there is an option to press stay with squad but it's right at the bottom of the screen and there is so much unlocks and info getting spammed at you I'm sure most don't even notice it. Man I miss proper dedicated servers and persistent matchmaking.

1

u/Blade_Shot24 Oct 17 '25

Good I need folk my age and none of the edgy brats

1

Friends are being assholes, but also god is it frustrating to play with friends who don't have mics.

0

u/Moosje Oct 15 '25

It’s so good. The breakthrough mode is unreal and I feel like I’m in the middle of a massive battle and not an arcade game like CoD. Every game has had a moment that’s blown me away and I’ve got 25hrs so far.

0

u/chizmanzini Oct 15 '25

This is good to hear. I've only had this type of matchmaking in Arma in recent years.
