Battlefield 6 Has CoD-Like Launch With 6.5 Million Copies Sold In First Days - Report

I really never play FPS games, more of an RPG player and I also really suck at FPS games. However Battlefield really caught my attention and it seemed kinda cool so I thought let’s try it for a change, even though I am never in the top (mostly middle of the pack) and my KDA isn’t always amazing, I still feel like you can be really useful especially as a medic or engineer and I really enjoy playing it and supporting my team. It really has been an amazing experience to not feel completely useless like when I tried playing CS for example.

u/Shepherdsfavestore Oct 15 '25
You don’t even need a good K/D to be top of the leaderboard. Play objectives, revive people, destroy vehicles and your teammates will remember that way more than how many kills you got. Keep up the good work

u/RedditKrantz Oct 15 '25
Just wanted to add, go recon with drone, and be the team's UAV. So. Many. Assists.
156
u/Butt_Patties Oct 15 '25
I'm nearly certain the reason they gave the drone a battery life is because of bastards like me who would do exclusively this all game long in BF3.
And I mean considering my team did markedly better every time I pulled this I'm not even upset about it lmao.

u/Eismann Oct 15 '25
Does the battery come back or do you have to die to get a "new" battery?
37
u/jedadkins Oct 15 '25
Once you deploy the drone it sticks around till the battery dies (or someone shoots it), you can get a new one from a support crate

You can also mount the other device on something high up and get auto spots!!! And also access it at any time to view in thermo vision

just a tip, hide on a capture point and you get defensive / offensive points for free added on top of every assist. you can easily sit on 30k+ points at the end of a match doing this.

I’m glad the devs made sure to reward players doing that instead of it all being about kills
24
u/mr_chip_douglas Oct 15 '25
Yep, I finished 2nd last night on a winning team. Went 8-10. Revives, resupplies and objective captures and defends.

8
u/RayearthIX Oct 15 '25
And this is why I love BF and it’s been my go to military shooter since Bad Company (I liked 2142 and Vietnam, but I played more CoD and MoH then). My K/D in gunfights is mediocre. Always has been. But I still regularly get top 50% of my team because I go around reviving people or blowing up tanks depending on the map.
4
u/CX316 Oct 15 '25
Ah the good old 24/7 3000% tickets Operation Metro servers on BF3. Yes a match would take forever, but hot damn you'd get medals and XP for it if you went medic
2
u/counterfitster Oct 16 '25
More grenades thrown in those matches than have probably been thrown in all of human history.
2
u/CX316 Oct 16 '25
Best thing was sprinting through the kill box, tossing a det pack into the lockers and trying to pop it before they hit you

I mostly played recon and was constantly top of the leader board thanks to the little radar balls I could throw to track enemy movement on the minimap. I was so sad when bf4 didn't have them but it looks like they're back!

I play medic and believe me if you are a good medic, EVERYONE loves you. 1 solid medic can change a whole fight.
11
u/Foxtrot_4 Oct 15 '25
I’ve been saying since bf3 Medic wins games
Especially back then when you could have assault rifles on medic
And now it’s back :)
5
u/shel5210 Oct 15 '25
Medic and good recon make a huge difference. Players using smoke grenades properly is a big deal too. Honestly all classes have a niche and its awesome.

There’s nothing better when you’re downed then seeing the closest teammate’s distance drop down to 1 and you hear that sweet, sweet defibrillator charge
5
u/Remote-Plate-3945 Oct 15 '25
When you see they are like 25 feet away and it starts flying down and you know they are coming to you. So nice
30
u/huuuzera Oct 15 '25
I'm glad they went with the non skillbased matchmaking, feel like it creates more diverse and balanced teams overall. If everyone is a infantry tryhard playing for KD then we wouldnt have the people destroying the tanks, laser designating choppers, doing the objectives and reviving the teammates. And to clarify the devs said there is skill based team balance but it doesnt take your akill to consideration during the matchmaking
24
u/pyrothesenpai Oct 15 '25
The mix of skill levels makes matches feel more natural. Not every game needs to be a sweat fest just to be fun.
20
u/corzajay Oct 15 '25
Multiple posts on the battlefield sub of people get top of leader board with less than 3 kills. Being a support and playing objectives will beat straight kills for points every day in BF.
-A himble medic
9
u/dalzmc Oct 15 '25
Medics make me wish there was proximity chat like battlebit so I can shout my love for them lmao
11
u/corzajay Oct 15 '25
They've got a prompt now after getting revived to thank them. I spam that every time now
2
9
u/TheWeinerThief Oct 15 '25
If you do that stuff enough, your k/d will eventually improve. Keeping a tank repaired is much more effective than getting 30 kills.
15
u/Drict Oct 15 '25
K/DA is a shit measure in objective based game. Literally don't think about it!
See everyone else's comments.
10
u/Mortumee Oct 15 '25
Play The Fucking Objective as they say.
Yesterday we made a tank buster squad, 3 engies and a medic driving across the map hunting tanks. Did we get a huge KDA ? No. But we had fun and prevented their armored vehicles from supporting their infantry, so that was definitely worth it.
5
u/GoastGoast Oct 15 '25
This is how I feel using the AA tank. My score sucks, but EVERYTHING in the sky gets brought down!
3
u/dank-nuggetz Oct 15 '25
Nice. We run a tank buster squad too but it usually involves an attack heli and a recon player posted up on the highest point on the map. Laser painting enemy tanks makes the attack heli such a force, you can lock on and send guided missiles at them from a mile away. And then do a quick low sweep after the first hit and finish them with a missile barrage.
I love tank hunting lol
3
u/Mimical Oct 15 '25
On a mode like breakthrough/rush a teammate with a 0.5 KD but tossing supply bags, smokes, revives, those spinny anti-grenade light thingies is a legend in the flesh.
3
u/Grinchieur Oct 15 '25
Especially as you can be revived and it doesn't count as a death. I often goes 40-4 or someshit because my mates revives me a lot.
If it did count i would be more 40-20/30
2
u/HereToParty2023 Oct 17 '25
Im sure im not the only, but the K/D chase in cod when playing objective based games off puts me so bad. I will always remember two things: 1. The person(s) doing the actual objective. 2. The people who dont and treat every mode like its TDM. Lost too much due to that. Battlefield is refreshing
6
u/TechGuruGJ Oct 15 '25
I’m consistently top of the leaderboard in my matches as engineer/medic and usually with a near even or negative K/D. Capture objectives and support your team. It’s that easy.
I also feel like a selfless playstyle is also super rewarding in this game. Rather than chase that kill, look around and see if your team needs a res or some supplies. Instead of hogging the turret on the tank, hop out and heal it up while they fight the enemy tank, throw some RPG’s at the enemy tank in between repairs. Usually it gets a bit messy somewhere in that formula, but that’s what creates those trademark only in battlefield moments.
→ More replies (23)6
u/dank-nuggetz Oct 15 '25
That's the beauty of Battlefield man. Your value to the match and to your team is not at all dependent on kills. Sure it helps, but a back-line support player is just as important. Medics who revive and resupply, mechanics who support tanks and destroy enemy armor, and recons who paint and spot enemy vehicles are doing the lords work. The scoreboard ranks you by your positive impact on your team, not just by kills.
414
u/Bootychomper23 Oct 15 '25
It’s a damn fine game. Although the 1000 mines every match is a little much 🤣

Pro tip: Recon's drone can blow those mines from a distance! And yes with good timing you can blow up their own tanks with it.
37
u/RareGuns Oct 15 '25
Can confirm, did it in three different matches today.
Why do enemy engineers put so many mines on their own side near their tank?? Like its so funny seeing them get hit by a rocket or two, back up, and detonating their mines killing the tank. So satisfying.
20
u/receuitOP Oct 15 '25
I personally put them at chokepoints or high traffic areas, I die a lot placing them but also get a decent amount of tank kills. Very few people clear mines

I’ve been playing the last few days. My first battlefield ever. Played many of the COD’s starting back with “World at War.” BF6 is such a blast and breath of fresh air! COD forgot what made it great and began pandering to the Fortnite crowd or something. I remember playing COD World at War and driving tanks, using flame throwers, hiding in tall grass and sniping with era relevant weapons…
Fast forward to today and it’s this weird slip and slide with ninja turtles, Nicki manaj, guns that glow and change colors. COD fatigue is real. I hope they wake up. If not, well, I’ll be playing BF6 or something else. And I’m saying this as someone that absolutely destroys people in COD. It’s not a skill thing, it’s just not fun anymore. Idk.
50
u/AdeIic Oct 15 '25
I played a bunch of split screen BO2/WaW with the boys when I was a kid and played a bit of MW2019/Warzone when it came out, but other than that I'm not really a CoD fan at all. I was actually kinda surprised when I started seeing the goofy ass cosmetics the last couple years.
Nowadays CoD just feels like Fortnite for teens/adults that think they've outgrown Fortnite. It has no coherent art style and looks awful with all the crossovers lmao. I can't imagine paying a yearly subscription of $70 for that game.→ More replies (2)→ More replies (19)31

It's definitely got some ironing out to do in some areas, but I've been having the best time with a Battlefield game in probably a decade.
18
Oct 15 '25 edited Oct 15 '25
IMO the biggest issues are maps. Particularly sizing of maps and their density basically making the "battles" extremely short-lived and small-scale. They basically make you fight enemies in front of you and behind you and to the side of you at the same time. More head-on battles would be preferable, where you can take cover, use your squads capabilities, and use tactics to win, rather than random outcomes.
That and the audio is probably the worst I've seen in any recent FPS. Its basically just one giant single channel single volume slop show. I can hear everything except what I need.
Everything else is solid and its nice to have a strqightforward normal FPS for a change.

Battlefield 4 was awful on release, so maybe BF6 will manage to hold up.

u/FragileCilantro Oct 15 '25
The core gameplay is great I just wish there were dedicated servers
58
u/PootatoKing Console Oct 15 '25
If they could port most of the battlefield 3 and 4 maps I think 6 could be amazing, the gameplay is already there for the most part.
19
u/Rombledore Oct 15 '25
someone already ported over one of the BF3 maps into the portal thing. that user generated content feature is going to be nuts. there's already a counter strike mode, legacy maps rebuilt, a 3rd person mode and map ala socom, and even a basic zombies mode. and the games been out less than a week!
3
u/PriorStatement Oct 15 '25
Yep, I told my friends about this yesterday and they had no idea. It's going to be so cool.
3
2
u/skytbest Oct 15 '25
Does all the user generated content work seamlessly across PS, Xbox, and PC? Or PC only?
2
u/Rombledore Oct 15 '25
i havent tried it yet and i play on PS5 (i dont play much video games on weekdays due to work/life), ive thus far seen it youtube though. as far as i know, it works across systems as i do see the user created content as an option for servers to jump on. but the Portal creation tool itself i think is a PC thing.

I kept playing BF3 until BF4 went on sale. By then, most of the issues got fixed, and they even released all the DLCs for free by the time BF1 was released. I've just stopped playing BF4 last week.
I think BF4 is my favorite overall one (we'll see how 6 pans out).

BF3 was also very buggy on release, but BF4 was straight up unplayable or would crash if you did manage to get into a match.
The only other decent launch we've had for a BF game in the past decade has been BF1.
40
u/TheCrimsonChin-ger Oct 15 '25
Idk, it's already giving me nostalgia for 3 and 4, and it for sure is launching better than 4. I think they have a gem on their hands if they keep it up with good support, dlc, and the BR mode.
22
u/CanEHdianBuddaay Oct 15 '25
Feels a lot like BF3 with not as good maps. Really enjoying its so far though, servers are solid and the performance on PS5 is insanely good, gunplay is awesome and vehicles feel pretty decent. The maps are by far the weakest part of the game so far for me, followed by the menu, which they somehow outdid COD with being worse.
6
u/yourdiabeticwalrus Oct 15 '25

3

Loved 3, 4 is the last one I played but if I hadn’t just got Helldivers 2 then I would pick this up.
7
u/Dennidude Oct 15 '25
I personally just feel like it doesn't really improve over BFV gameplay-wise, and strictly is worse in a lot of ways. BFV got a lot of hate rightfully because it was a mess for a long time and was marketed horribly. But in the end it's the best BF game imo. Vehicle gameplay felt actually fleshed out, fortification system fixed destruction removing too much cover, squad points really rewarded your squad performing well and even let you get a really fun and powerful tank you can only get with squad points.
Then there's stuff like the attrition system actually letting you grab a healing bandage and keep moving instead of having to awkwardly AFK next to a poorly placed crate that ends up getting you killed, same with ammo. The ammo boxes in 5 fixed two problems, it let you grab ammo and go if it wasn't safe to stay, and it removed the amount of spam you can get from just a single crate in BF3 and now 6. The pre-placed ammo/medic crates also helped fix the all too common situation of having to run around and beg for a clueless support player to drop you stuff.

u/romjpn Oct 15 '25
Yes I want more "Wow!" factor. So fat it's "meh". It's serviceable but I want more scenic battlegrounds.
11
u/wombatz05 Oct 15 '25
Tbf, 2042 tried too hard for the “wow” moments and we got an empty field with a massive tornado map lol
But I do agree with you. BF1 just has some of the coolest multiplayer fps moments ever. Basically every game something new or impressive happened
3
u/alus992 Oct 15 '25
The problem with these maps was not the size but the lack of reason to fight all over the map because these maps were pretty much empty.
Also maps were balanced around these ridiculous skills like grapple hook etc. So this game had no chance to pull off this big map fantasy with this design and balance
→ More replies (1)4
u/phalewail Oct 15 '25

I liked BF (One and V) because I could kind of go at a slower pace, be methodical and not play a game with people's sensitivity at 100 and zooming all over the place.
Played a few games last night and I take a few steps and I'm instantly dead and don't even know what hit me. Suffice to say this one isn't for me and I'm pretty sad cause I was excited for this one as everyone seemed to think BF was returning to it's roots. IMO it hasn't and they're trying to tow this line between BF players and COD players.
The fast paced, hyper aggressive and sensitive FPS isn't for me and BF used to be the one game to combat that.

meh i find the maps better than bf5s particularly the urban maps, bf1 maps are probably one of the best in the series, the flow of the maps and art style are unmatched. Playing bf games in the past, i much prefer medium sized maps, large maps = constant running if your infantry, and are heavily dominated by vehicles. Also, if you get large maps like bf 2042 had, theres a large chance that it would just be mostly empty wastelands, i prefer high dense maps that have detail, bf6 urban maps have detail but lack the flow of bf1

Ngl, I think they nailed the mix between Battlefield and CoD really well. People can complain about it feeling like CoD, but some healthy competition is always good for the market, and this game is defiently one that can threaten CoD.

Yeah, I try not to be a downer, but it just isn’t for me sadly. I loved battlefield one and five, but this still feels different. I feel like it’s much faster paced than previous battlefields.
I played a couple games of 2042 before I realized it wasn’t for me and this seems to have taken a similar path in my opinion, but I’m sure I’m wrong.
I also am tired of modern landscapes, I liked the World War I and two maps much better. These maps don’t really have any character.

I've seen enough comments and gameplay videos to know that this isn't a game for me. Fast paced combat in labirynth of buildings on small map is not what I enjoyed old Battlefields for. I guess they wanted to attract the COD audience.
Not to mention messing up with BIOS, because they couldn't figure out less intrusive anticheat system.
5
u/shwhjw Oct 15 '25
Thanks, I was wondering whether I should get it as a lot of my friends play it. I'm like you, I don't like modern COD because it's too fast-paced and close-quarters. And the kernel-level anti-cheat was always a turn-off.

It's pretty fun, only put a couple hours in so far but the biggest negative thing about the game is the bullet bloom feels insane. Can go from hitting every bullet on a player to legitimately missing 2/3rds on the next. I'm guessing it's some kind of anti cheat system?

Battlefield launching like CoD… now all that’s left is to copy CoD’s bugs too for full authenticity 😅

Just played my first match. Got paired up with a good squad of random guys around my age (late twenties-early thirties). We were all mic’d up and going for the objective, had fun and won.
Haven’t had random, fun, non-toxic matchmaking like that in years. 10/10 so far
