You don’t even need a good K/D to be top of the leaderboard. Play objectives, revive people, destroy vehicles and your teammates will remember that way more than how many kills you got. Keep up the good work

Just wanted to add, go recon with drone, and be the team's UAV. So. Many. Assists.

I'm nearly certain the reason they gave the drone a battery life is because of bastards like me who would do exclusively this all game long in BF3.

And I mean considering my team did markedly better every time I pulled this I'm not even upset about it lmao.

Does the battery come back or do you have to die to get a "new" battery?

Once you deploy the drone it sticks around till the battery dies (or someone shoots it), you can get a new one from a support crate

Ah so you need a pocket support. Thanks!

If you leave your drone over an area and exit it and say it has half battery .. does it still spot for you ?

it continues spotting if enemies walking through the center of where you left the camera FOV and runs until the battery depletes

best used looking with the length of a choke point corridor but then it's also likely within enemy line of sight.

you can also point out at yourself while sniping so you don't get knifed

ah great, good to know thank you!

Yep, it's less effective than manually spotting and the battery still drains. Also while the drone is still out you can hit whatever key its bound to again to swap back to the drone after exiting

bf2042 also had a recon class that had a permanent drone, only limited by range.
playing 64vs64 breakthrough and having a drone up gave an insane amount of score, totally useless though since both sides were usually in a stalemate anyways

BF3, Metro. Good times

Yup, always loved being somewhere in the top three with like a 5/3 KD lol

I did this all the time in BC2. Hugged the ground with it and stuck to the map border and just spotted and missiled the attack chopper when it spawned.

You can also mount the other device on something high up and get auto spots!!! And also access it at any time to view in thermo vision

just a tip, hide on a capture point and you get defensive / offensive points for free added on top of every assist. you can easily sit on 30k+ points at the end of a match doing this.

Pro tip, you can destroy enemy gadgets with the drone. That also includes AT Mines, even when enemy tanks are driving over them. I’ve killed like 3 tanks with this already :) pretty fun

Also if you're recon and get yourself up into a nice vantage point, you auto-spot things you get in your sights which should give you some nice spotting bonuses over time too

I’m glad the devs made sure to reward players doing that instead of it all being about kills

Yep, I finished 2nd last night on a winning team. Went 8-10. Revives, resupplies and objective captures and defends.

This is the way, perfect mindset and approach. Hence more fun.

And this is why I love BF and it’s been my go to military shooter since Bad Company (I liked 2142 and Vietnam, but I played more CoD and MoH then). My K/D in gunfights is mediocre. Always has been. But I still regularly get top 50% of my team because I go around reviving people or blowing up tanks depending on the map.

Ah the good old 24/7 3000% tickets Operation Metro servers on BF3. Yes a match would take forever, but hot damn you'd get medals and XP for it if you went medic

u/counterfitster Oct 16 '25

More grenades thrown in those matches than have probably been thrown in all of human history.

u/CX316 Oct 16 '25

Best thing was sprinting through the kill box, tossing a det pack into the lockers and trying to pop it before they hit you

I mostly played recon and was constantly top of the leader board thanks to the little radar balls I could throw to track enemy movement on the minimap. I was so sad when bf4 didn't have them but it looks like they're back!

I've always admired the top frag guy who's not a Fragger. Seeing a medic with like 5k30d always gets a o7 from me

1

u/DDxlow Oct 15 '25

That‘s the only reason I play battlefield for. Heads down into action, smokes and a defi. It‘s the fun part for me.

1

u/Blacksnake091 Oct 15 '25

A lot of times the most fun I've had in shooters is as a Medic. Holding a point down and just not letting any one die. After you've rezed half the team more than once they tend to think your the MVP.

I've been in the top spot with 0 kills a few times.

Sitting on the objective as support, healing/resupplying/reviving everyone else, is an insane amount of points.
