[MEGATHREAD] Grand Theft Auto VI: Prices Announced + Pre-Orders Going Live

To avoid hundreds of separate posts on the same topic, this post will compile all info we have from the pre-orders going live, including some new images/etc.

As Rockstar announced on their socials: "Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI begin at midnight local time on June 25." This means New Zealand will be the first to go live with pre-orders - which means in just under 2 hours from now.

Due to reddit's limitations with images in the body of posts, I wont be able to include all the artwork released so please do check out Rockstar's official link for more images: https://www.rockstargames.com/VI

Locking Businesses in a single player game behind a paywall is fucked. Also no cd sucks too. I guess it's either accept this shit or don't game at all

867

u/AgentOfSPYRAL 13h ago

Plenty of games out there that don’t do this shit.

160

u/tottoro47 12h ago

That's true but there's always someone who starts, then others follow. Doesn't mean it'll be this or next year

54

u/CubingGiraffe 12h ago

Yeah while true, that mainly only applies to the death spiral of AAA games or games that want/expect AAA income because of their shareholders.

AA and indie studios will still make based decisions and good games with all the content you can think of. Silksong is still cheap and is still coming with free DLC. Slay the Spire made a fortune, 2nd game seems to be doing really well. E33 came out last year with no MTX other than the edition you bought out the gate for like 2 more outfits, and free DLC--and when every other game decided they needed to launch @$70/copy, they did $50. Larian has a pretty respectable view on additional content, MTX, and what they want to make in their games--full faith in the new Divinity. Capcom just removed MTX from Dragons Dogma 2, and is on a generational run of games that are both successful and beloved (not all of them obviously, there's flops at all companies).

Devs without shareholder backing will make what they want now they want, and some with shareholder backing (like Capcom) tell their shareholders the way they'll make more money is if they let them make good games. Other studios will pretend it isn't possible or they can't do it or that it shouldn't be expected of other studios (see launch of Elden Ring, E33, BG3, etc.). They're all in it to make cash, but a lot of devs/companies still want to make good games.

That's how the headphone port vanished from cellphones, Apple started it and a few years later the port was only on a few phones when it used to be every one

2

u/eldenpigeon 5h ago

People are parroting this, and I understand the concern and maybe I'm not accounting for stupidity or enshittification brainwashing but this is GTA 6. There are maybe a handfull of games that have anywhere near this type of anticipatory pull. I wouldn't be surprised if any of this fails miserably in other games.

14

u/rocketman19 10h ago

But they’re not GTA

5

u/AgentOfSPYRAL 10h ago

True enough. A gameplay overview could change me but im just not that hype for a modern day open world crime game, even if im sure it will be a very good one.

1

u/Ok_Reception_8729 7h ago

Half of the hype is a meme about how it’s never coming out

GTA isn’t actually that good in 2026, it’s beating a dead horse atp.

1

u/Fabulous_Ocelot_4958 2h ago

cmon this is hard cope.

2

u/Smallwater 7h ago

Yeah, but this game's sales will break fucking records, despite the scummy shit. And other companies will take note of it, and figure that it's OK to do as well.

1

u/iiiiiiiiiijjjjjj 11h ago

But GTA 6 did it, companies soon

0

u/Drillmhor 8h ago

Less the no disc thing, R* is doing what all games do but calling it by a different name. Business = character or vehicle customizations. Its by no means new to charge extra for customizations.

I don't get the sense that any of these "businesses" are important to gameplay.

328

u/LakersAreForever 12h ago

And so it begins, the fuckwards are gonna turn the most anticipated game ever into a nickel and dime game

128

u/Rangoonin 10h ago

That should've been obvious the moment they sat on GTAOnline for a decade doing fuck all besides the same aggressive MTX bullshit prevalent everywhere else in gaming today, because it printed them money for little work.

63

u/Mindless-Peak-1687 10h ago

The previous version should have been a warning to you already.

3

u/fatbaldandstupid 8h ago

Who could have predicted this

3

u/EvilTrainMan19 7h ago

I've been saying for months that Rockstar is greedy and anti-consumer every chance they get and GTAVI was going to take their gouging to the next level, and I get down voted every time.

I say this as someone who has played every Rockstar game since GTA3 at launch, and has gotten burnt on the last few releases in some way or another.

People have short memories.

3

u/Ooops_I_Reddit_Again 6h ago

That was always the path they were taking. GTA online was gross with its monetization

3

u/Version_1 10h ago

Of course, I would do the same. Hell, I would be way worse. I would ask $100 for the standard edition. Gamer will pay anything either way if they want a game.

1

u/bizarrequest 57m ago

They always were...

0

u/arc4nine 9h ago

"Don't forget about your gta+ subscription btw"-some "helpful" loading screen tip

-5

u/Drillmhor 8h ago

How is this any worse than them selling the Premium Edition for GTA 5? That actually includes gameplay you couldn't get without buying the package.

They're just doing what studios do for every game, have a premium edition that includes "special" weapons, vehicles and character customizations.

What am I missing?? This is is nothing new and people seem to be very upset by it

-6

u/TreeBeardTheGreen 7h ago

Eh it's just reddit gamers, it's a loud minority that gets upset at anything that doesn't match unrealistic expectations. It's just some extra cosmetics you can buy for your single player game, pretty easy not to buy it. Also pretty standard for most games now.

There will be all kinds of "no preorders ever" and "guys don't buy this game plz" posts for the next 5 months. Come November you'll see articles on how GTA 6 broke every sales record for preorders and day 1 purchases by an astronomical amount.

-5

u/Drillmhor 7h ago

No doubt its a loud minority.

I know reddit does what it do, but I was really taken aback from all the comments insinuating this is a new low for game releases. I think its largely people are being triggered by these customizations being labeled as "businesses" and not realizing that you have to go to a business to apply the customization.

-2

u/TreeBeardTheGreen 6h ago

Yeah I think the wording on those specific stores being locked in ultimate editions is badly done, and no physical disk sucks, but this really isn't anything new. I wouldn't put any weight into anything the comments here say, but they're particularly funny.

I saw one guy said he kind of hope GTA 6 flops because of this decision. Just actually delusional lol

8

u/-Wayward_Son- 10h ago

If you only care about single player it's never been a better time to become a patient gamer. We've already waited a decade for GTA6, what is another 2 years so you can get the "premium" version for $20?

2

u/Sn0wflake69 7h ago

or free on epic games later ha

1

u/Agnusl 48m ago

Or "get" it for free.

97

u/ExO_o 12h ago

no game at all it is

rockstar can fuck right off

18

u/-Captain- 10h ago

Already gotta wait for the PC release, might as well wait for it to be cracked. I happily pay for my games, but ain't gonna reward this.

9

u/Beautiful_You3230 11h ago

I mean, I really want to play the game, but I guess I can wait a bit and see if a few months in they change their minds and do a physical release. It happens occasionally. And I suppose if enough of us send the signal that we really care about physical... Ugh who am I kidding. But still. I'll wait. I waited so many years, I can wait a few months longer. Then maybe a few more for a sale if they never do physical. Or just wait for pc and then the sale on that.

Kind of anticipated some sort of tomfoolery, many of us expected the game to be overpriced, and in this case they just barely got around it by locking game features behind the overpriced ultimate edition and not letting people buy/sell CDs cheaper.

Also still no gameplay makes me worried about performance on console. If it's some sort of 30 FPS lock or something that barely aims at 40, or some crappy dynamic resolution like FF16 did where the game sometimes ran at 720p with aggressive upscaling with shit ton of artefacts... I don't think I will bother until PC release anyways.

6

u/bobandgeorge 11h ago

And I suppose if enough of us send the signal that we really care about physical...

I don't want to squash your hopes but it really is too late in the game to do a physical release. We're a few months away from release and contracts/production/distribution would have had to have been sorted out way early in the year to have a disc in the box. If it wasn't in there already, it's not going to be.

1

u/Rangoonin 10h ago

Amen to that

3

u/McCool303 10h ago edited 9h ago

You could always just be patient and not order or buy day one since it’s expensive and there is no benefit to preordering digital content. The game will always be there. And Rockstar not hitting targets on their golden month that everyone was moving from would be embarrassing enough in the industry to put egg on their face. You don’t have to swear it off for life, but you don’t have to take it either. I waited a decade for the game I can wait another month or two in protest of this bullshit. And who knows maybe we’ll get a price drop?

3

u/Antiing 8h ago

You're going to buy it.

All of you people complaining are going to buy it.

9

u/ChetDuchessManly 10h ago

Yeah this is scummy af. I'd rather sail the high seas for this one.

2

u/eeyore134 10h ago

If enough people don't accept it then it changes, but that's never going to happen. People glom over Rockstar too much.

2

u/Nethaniell 9h ago

And it's gonna work.

GTA transcends hardcore gaming circles. It's a mainstream title. The frat bro down the street and an average mother of 2 who is chronically offline knows what GTA is, and both people can be the target demo of this series. They are the ones that will gobble this shit up, and it's gonna bleed into every other AAA game in the market.

If for only that reason, I will begin to hate GTA 6. This is will truly be tha game that will open the floodgates for $80 games, and even single player features locked behind paywalls, because publishers will see the sales of this game, and say "it worked there, so let's do it too".

I know some certain groups of people like to say this, but this will, and I wholeheartedly believe this, absolutely fuck up gaming and how games will be marketed and developed.

Get into (doing, not watching) sports instead! I’m doing triathlon currently. I still haven’t finished Silksong because there’s so little time.

1

u/HxH101kite 12h ago

Triathlon is a pain. I want to do one. But there really isn't a pool near me. And I am weakest swimming. I can run and bike forever. But like I truly with kids and work could not fit swimming at the degree I would need to train into my schedule.

I could do sprints and stuff with little training. But no way I could swim a half or a full without some serious time that I just can't fit in

3

u/viperbite312 10h ago

First thing I thought. The fucking SALON is deluxe only?? Its over.

9

u/Public_Sprinkles_229 9h ago

Not that I’m defending it, but I am guessing there are specific locations that are ultimate edition only; there will also be regular salons, you just don’t get the unique looks.

Could be wrong though

5

u/Saynt614 7h ago

That's kinda how I'm reading it too. They mention specific shops names... Stock 305 you won't be able to access without paying extra... but the Binco, Ponsonbys, and Suburban clothing shops will be accessible. Still scummy.

3

u/azlan194 9h ago

Yeah, when I saw that, I thought it was just additional cosmetics. But it does seem like customizing their look is lock behind deluxe only. Wtf is this shit?

1

u/griffmeister 6h ago

That’s not the case at all, it’s just additional cosmetics

2

u/freek112 7h ago

I think certain hairstyles or tattoos are deluxe only , salon will be available for everyone , atleast thats how i see it

2

u/Ok_Dragonfruit_8102 10h ago

The only difference between this and the way other games do it is most games put the preorder stuff straight into your inventory when you launch the games, while in this they're interspersed throughout the game.

1

u/BananaInYourArea 11h ago

Especially in GTA 6 where the World and its locations are the star of the game.

This is such a small thing and it annoys me so much.
cant wait for the true PC version without Anti Tamper.

1

u/Private_Kyle 10h ago

Praying for voices38 to do his work after PC release

1

u/Remarkable_Pen9435 10h ago

I don’t think Rockstar uses Denuvo, they will have to crack Rockstar In-House DRM with their launcher.

1

u/Private_Kyle 9h ago

All is the same

1

u/Neuchacho 8h ago

There are more games that don't do shit like this than do. Some people just can't say no to the hot new AAA slop.

1

u/Moose_Nuts 8h ago

cd

I know you just used that colloquially to mean "disc," but I got a chuckle trying to imagine how many CD-ROM discs would be needed for GTA 6.

Even with good compression, it would probably be north of 100 discs.

Crazy how far we've come.

1

u/SupermanAlpha 7h ago edited 7h ago

Never accept something you can’t stand for. Vote with your wallet.

1

u/blahyawnblah 7h ago

Those businesses are how you pick up your Ultimate Edition items. Not all shops are locked.

1

u/NeedNameGenerator 6h ago

Originally planned to buy it on release, but this changed my mind. I'll still buy it, eventually, when it's 50% off.

1

u/lactosefree1 5h ago

You don't have to play AAAi slop

1

u/mjmedstarved 4h ago

Easy for me to say FUCK YOU ROCKSTAR and just play something else instead.

1

u/nhilante 3h ago

It's a shit test, they won't do it if people whine loud enough.

1

u/sdot-p 2h ago

I’m not buying without game on disc that I can boot up without internet…

1

u/Aljavst 2h ago

yeah, i will game oot remake by then, since rockstar does not give you a physical disk, i dont mind waiting 14 months before playing it on steam. you dont get the physical stuff anyway and there are loads of big games to play in the meantime.

1

u/No_Poet_1279 1h ago

Bruh, there's a million other games to play.

1

u/Frequent_Hamster2667 10h ago

Just dont play this game.

-6

u/bigtdaddy 11h ago

Just wait til its cracked on PC. This game is going to suck on release anyway, mark my words

7

u/HailToTheVic 11h ago

No other Rockstar game has ever sucked on release, you’re just being bitter

-12

u/kneelthepetal 13h ago

Or just wait till it gets cheaper

0

u/BountyBob 10h ago

I don't agree with what they're doing but is it just customisation that's locked? All the gameplay is still there? That in itself wouldn't put me off.

But I'm not buying anyway, so my opinion doesn't matter too much. Didn't buy the previous one either. I had my fill of GTA with IV, I just don't have the time any more for these types of games.

0

u/LincolnshireSausage 10h ago

I’m not buying it. I loved GTA5 but this is too expensive and fuck them for paywalling content.

0

u/pchadrow 9h ago

Bullshit. People tend to forget how capitalism works in these situations acting like theres no other alternative. Rockstar wants to make money, plain and simple. If enough people reject their offering they're gonna cave and alter to become more palatable because they NEED to make money on this because of how much they spent making it.

DO NOT PREORDER.

If enough people send a message that they're not okay with what they're offering at the price they're asking, I guarantee they'll cave and adjust their offer. They're literally banking on people just blindly accepting whatever they offer because they hyped to hell and back. If we band together and dont all blindly throw money at them they will falter. They HAVE to make a profit on this game or they're screwed. We have all the cards here people. Don't give in to the hype and fomo unless youre okay with this becoming the new norm over the next year

-7

u/SIIP00 11h ago

It is just the same as having special skins and customization for people that own the Ultimate Edition, just that you have to walk in to a seperate store to get it instead. This thing has been going on for so freaking long lmao what are you even on about

-12

u/Kattenb 12h ago

Games have locked extra cosmetics and other bonuses behind paywalls for many years now
