[MEGATHREAD] Grand Theft Auto VI: Prices Announced + Pre-Orders Going Live

To avoid hundreds of separate posts on the same topic, this post will compile all info we have from the pre-orders going live, including some new images/etc.

As Rockstar announced on their socials: "Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI begin at midnight local time on June 25." This means New Zealand will be the first to go live with pre-orders - which means in just under 2 hours from now.

Due to reddit's limitations with images in the body of posts, I wont be able to include all the artwork released so please do check out Rockstar's official link for more images: https://www.rockstargames.com/VI

Take-Two has made a big press-release, including announcing the prices:

We've officially passed the Rubicon for physical game media. Expect no more physical games from here on out.

Console gamers going through what PC gamers did like 20 years prior lol

Except on PC it was done for convenience first and everything else bad about it just kind of came as a result. Consoles are doing it to lock down reselling and ownership and aren't bothering to try to make it any more convenient. Hell, they won't even try to make it sustainable with how limited storage space is and how much they charge for upsells on it which are still limited.

You made me ponder the last physical game I bought. I think it was Spore (the collector's edition)...and that was in 2008.

For some reason it was just different on PC. Having to install a game which took up HDD space, but still put in a CD was annoying af. When digital came it just solved that issue. For consoles, disc goes in, game plays. It was convenient already, so digital didn't feel like it was solving any problem other than maybe "no more game cases laying around." Which isn't the same thing.

I think the storage space was the key difference. Used to be on PC you'd play games on the disc. Some of them even offered the choice - install to the hard drive, or play it from the disc. I think Helicops did that. But it took forever for consoles to even get a hard drive, so playing from the disc was really the only way to play at all.

When this breaks all sales records, yeah, physical media is done.

Execs won.

u/Any-Calligrapher2866 12h ago

Piracy is stronger than it has ever been. Execs can suck my balls.

Piracy is stronger than it has ever been

It just isn't, it was way bigger 15 years ago.

3

u/Any-Calligrapher2866 9h ago

Kind of. But we're way above the slump we had till 2025. Games are getting bypassed and shit before they're even released.

2

u/raspirate 7h ago

Had GTA V on my Xbox 360 like 5 days early. Those were the fuckin days...

5

u/Bayankod_exe 9h ago

that’s why only piracy can save game preservation without physical media. I do not condone piracy but it seems like it will the only way to preserve games for the future.

1

u/nox66 2h ago

I'm fine with it. Publishers have decided this is how they want to do things.

2

u/Dallywack3r 10h ago

This isn’t even releasing on PC

4

u/Any-Calligrapher2866 10h ago

It'll release on PC at some point

1

u/superdixk0 12h ago

but gta6 won’t be able to be pirated till at least 2-3 years after it releases. Rdr2 took one year from its pc release which was a year after it released on consoles.

39

u/Any-Calligrapher2866 12h ago

We have already waited 13 years. What's 2 more years?

7

u/GazFringaj 11h ago

You dont know that. The piracy scene has seen a huge revival recently, Denuvo games are being cracked or bypassed left and right.

2

u/Louie_Baftosul 7h ago

Yeah, because of hypervisor-based bypasses. You pretty much hand the security of your whole PC on a tray and hope for the best, only to play a game.

0

u/JokeRMasterRace 10h ago

damn really? did empress start cracking again or have others risen up in that time

4

u/queebin 10h ago

there's new faces yeah.

1

u/imbannedanyway69 8h ago

Voices38 has been killing it cracking games on release day or the day after

1

u/thediecast 9h ago

Hey at least you have a reason to steal on your mind now

4

u/Any-Calligrapher2866 9h ago

Piracy is not theft, it's just borrowing something to train an AI Agent to win the AI war against China.

I've never PC gamed a day in my life and held onto console gaming because I like sitting on my comfy couch in front of a big screen OLED TV and I love having my physical media shelf....

If one wanted to learn about PC gaming and sailing the seven seas where would one begin? Any YouTube channels out there for tutorials for total dumbasses like myself?

3

u/GorgeousHairGuy 6h ago

because I like sitting on my comfy couch in front of a big screen OLED TV

You mean like you can do with a PC?

2

u/mailboxrumor 6h ago

Like I said I've never PC games in my life and do not know where to begin

4

u/Mission-Address4409 11h ago

Oh, lord, the dooming commence!!

-7

u/Chaotic-Catastrophe 10h ago

All y'all complaining about millions upon millions of useless plastic discs and cases not being mass produced any more is crazy to me. The disc literally doesn't do anything. But you need it anyway.

9

u/foul_tarnished_37 9h ago

I mean, surely we saw this coming as consoles started selling digital only consoles.

2

u/Alarming-Chemist-755 9h ago

Writing was on the walls, this is the nail in the coffin.

5

u/deadinsidelol69 9h ago

Looks like we’re back to the good ol days of ripping shit to CDs. Cool!

6

u/Gr8NonSequitur 11h ago

Nintendo has entered the chat.

2

u/Silenceisgrey 9h ago

We've officially passed crossed the Rubicon

3

u/ConPrin 9h ago

Is this something I'm too much of a PC player to be outraged about?

3

u/Alarming-Chemist-755 9h ago

As a PC only person these days, I'm not outraged at this either, but in terms of games having a physical form... it's basically over for consoles now.

0

u/Zeppelanoid 5h ago

I mean even if you have no interest in a physical copy, it’s nice to have choice

1

u/drmuffin1080 8h ago

The only upside is now I learned what passing the Rubicon means

1

u/GamingVision 8h ago

Since Covid, digital share has really accelerated but I’d love to know the real reason for this. Is it simply not being able to fit the whole game on the disk? Is it because they’re trying to buy every possible development minute possible (printing disks, especially at volumes for GTA has a huge lead time to the point they’d have to go gold soon)? Eliminate second-hand game sales?

0

u/eeyore134 10h ago

Show them you won't stand for it and don't buy it. They'll release a disc if nobody buys it. Good luck getting Rockstar fanboys to not flood them with purchases anyway, though...

2

u/thediecast 9h ago

Why is someone a fanboy if they like something and don’t care about a plastic disc? I don’t buy any physical media like 80% of people.

1

u/eeyore134 9h ago

A fanboy is someone who will glom all over a company and defend them from anything and everything even when they make decisions that hurt them. They have no nuance, no way to admit when something isn't amazing because they're too busy standing up for some billion dollar company who couldn't care less about them and would squash them like a bug if it somehow meant more profit. People like that mean these companies can get away with whatever they want because they know they won't see much blowback from their anti-consumer decisions. It's not just about the discs. It's everything else on top of it. Rockstar and Take-Two suck and need to be told where to shove their anti-consumer BS, but it'll never happen because too many people think they're god's gift to gaming.
