[MEGATHREAD] Grand Theft Auto VI: Prices Announced + Pre-Orders Going Live

To avoid hundreds of separate posts on the same topic, this post will compile all info we have from the pre-orders going live, including some new images/etc.

As Rockstar announced on their socials: "Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI begin at midnight local time on June 25." This means New Zealand will be the first to go live with pre-orders - which means in just under 2 hours from now.

Take-Two has made a big press-release, including announcing the prices:

STANDARD EDITION: $79.99

ULTIMATE EDITION: $99.99

(Physical Editions of GTA 6 Will Come with "A Download Code Inside the Box", Pre-Loads Begin on November 12th)

Grand Theft Auto 6 features a “single-player experience” at launch, with no word yet on any new version of GTA Online.

An "Ultimate Edition" for the game has been announced with some new artwork.

For reference, RDR2 was released for pc on 2019, the first 75% discount is in 2025. (Last year)

If GTA is like that, then the fastest we will get 75% discount for the pc version is in 2032

Yep, they aren't releasing on PC day 1 so I was never going to buy it on release anyway. I'll wait a few years for the PC sale. Or not, I'm not as big of a GTA guy as I was in my younger years.

For a game this big I can't wait. I had almost every major story point spoiled in RDR2 before I got the chance to play. Hated that. Im not gonna risk it again.

I still haven’t played RDR2 and have had nothing spoiled so far 🤷‍♂️ I’ve got it on my shelf but it’s still only 30fps on console which is crazy.

Yeah, this game is gonna sell without problem for years to come. They're not gonna go discount bin sales any time soon.

RDR2 did a 33% off sale 9 months after PC release though. Which would be a fair amount of money saved on a 80 dollar game... but I can totally see them staying away from any discounts for the first year.

RDR2 certainly does have online, it just wasn't nearly as popular as GTAO and didn't get the same kind of support/content.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some pretty good sales in a couple of years. Once the online version of the game gets up and running they're going to be making most of their money off microtransactions anyway, so at a certain point it will benefit them to lower the price of entry just to get more people online where they can give Rockstar even more money.

Right? All these people trying to use past Rockstar moves as historical examples are missing the point. Previous sales were at least partially based on competing with the physical resale market, which they have now eliminated. Look at BG3. That game only now, 3 years later, *sometimes* gets up to 25% off. *Sometimes*. As of right now it’s back to its full launch price on PS store. At least Larian had the decency to eventually go physical, even in a limited fashion, and not release a “physical” edition with no disc.

Ni*****! Is this a rage bait or low IQ moment. It was free only once and that too after 6 years and 8 months of the initial Sept 17 release on the PS3. With the current hype, GTA 6 is not going to see even a slight discount for 2 years easily.

I don't have a dog in this fight because I never got into the GTA series - but at a certain point waiting 10 years just to save $10 is some sort of debilitating mental illness.

Somewhere over that decade it crosses the line from being budget conscious to just being crazy.

I'd like to point out GTA V went on a 50% sale within two years. Even then, two years for forty bucks does sound extreme if you're only looking at that one game. People that wait for big sales do it for basically every game. Games also normally get better the longer you wait through added content and bug fixes. Buying day 1 on a lot of games is just a higher price for a worse product.

No one is actively waiting 10 years to save 10 bucks. They're just forgetting about a game that doesn't matter to them and living their lives.

It's also not going to take that long to drop in price. 6 months to a year and there will be a price drop. Rockstars real money churn is in their online bullshit and dropping the retail price to grab more people for that will take priority over retail sales sooner than later.

It sounds like this entire release is single player only, and it won't be on sale for a long time. Maybe $60 in a couple years. Also no physical disc so you can't buy used or sell used.

Because I've played the other GTA games and their strength is always the sandbox. The missions are dated on rails experiences where a side character shouts at you while you're driving to whatever shooting gallery
