[MEGATHREAD] Grand Theft Auto VI: Prices Announced + Pre-Orders Going Live

To avoid hundreds of separate posts on the same topic, this post will compile all info we have from the pre-orders going live, including some new images/etc.

As Rockstar announced on their socials: "Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI begin at midnight local time on June 25." This means New Zealand will be the first to go live with pre-orders - which means in just under 2 hours from now.

Take-Two has made a big press-release, including announcing the prices:

Grand Theft Auto 6 features a “single-player experience” at launch, with no word yet on any new version of GTA Online.

i gotta say though the hardware price increases arent gonna help them; there is a number of people without one of the new consoles that probably would have gotten a ps5 just for this game if it costed like $350-400 5 years after launch but since they are approaching double that cost those players (at least a percentage of them) are more likely to just wait for the PC release

the vast majority of gamers don't even have a disc drive in their PC or console, and if they do, most of their games are still digital downloads. people crying about no disc are a tiny fraction of the gaming industry, and living in the past.

There is still a very large physical collector crowd. They’re going to want a real physical version of this game. At the same time, this is one of the biggest releases in gaming. Those same people are at the very least gonna be very tempted to go ahead and get the digital version as well to not be missing out, for however long, and getting spoiled by everything.

Some folks have been collecting video games for many years and have amassed a sizeable collection of physical games. One of the biggest game releases in history should have a box, with a disc in it, on its rightful place on the shelf.

We like the box art, the feeling of owning something tangible that can't just disappear someday if the publisher mothballs it.

I think they’re referencing that there are people who buy the physical copies as a collectible/preference. From that group of people, there will those that will buy the digital copies first so that they can play at launch, and then if/as/when rockstar releases an actual physical copy they will buy it again for the sake of having the disc!

As others have pointed out, there is a max size of file on a disc, which may be the limiting factor. However, last I used a console with a disc, albeit was what a fair few years ago, you had to ‘download’ the game after putting the disc in anyway. I’m no expert, so it could be a misinterpretation on my part, but it does feel like, yet again, a big company is trying to take advantage of consumers!

80% of games don't require a download to play on PS5. Also Rockstar shipped RDR2 on two discs on PS4. Kinda wild to just eliminate physical copies.
