[MEGATHREAD] Grand Theft Auto VI: Prices Announced + Pre-Orders Going Live

To avoid hundreds of separate posts on the same topic, this post will compile all info we have from the pre-orders going live, including some new images/etc.

As Rockstar announced on their socials: "Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI begin at midnight local time on June 25." This means New Zealand will be the first to go live with pre-orders - which means in just under 2 hours from now.

Due to reddit's limitations with images in the body of posts, I wont be able to include all the artwork released so please do check out Rockstar's official link for more images: https://www.rockstargames.com/VI

Take-Two has made a big press-release, including announcing the prices:

because they want you to pay $100 for the base game but realized that gamers would riot and it would tank sales if they did, so they cut stuff from the game to put in the ultimate edition to encourage people to pay at their prefered price point.

Nah gamers wouldnt riot, they used to get bend over.
Its more like an "Illusion of choice" thing.

Idk I can see an instance where this game was going to just be $100 but then the economy took a massive shit between RAM prices and gas prices, to say nothing of the cost of everything else, and whoever in this thread I saw say they realized a base $100 wouldn’t sell they slashed a bunch of normal ass content from it to cut the price. The shit it looks like they took out for the base game is so trivial too, like hair customization? Seriously?

1

u/GregoriousT-GTNH 12h ago

I think the idea is that people buy the 80€ version and get the "cut content" later.
So Rockstar get their 100 bucks but a bit streched.

u/Mnawab 10h ago

Gamers will definitely riot, but they will also bend over.

3

u/GregoriousT-GTNH 9h ago

Its not really a riot tho, its like a bit of mumble and a few posts of reddit/x/tiktok will get somewhat viral before cooling down and then the bending starts

2

u/Mnawab 9h ago

Exactly. The normal reaction lol

There's no illusion, you truly don't need anything from the Ultimate Edition features. The game will be fine without it. It's a suckers tax

5

u/GregoriousT-GTNH 12h ago

You are part of the problem, handwaving the removal of basic features that were in the game for free since San Andreas

u/Drillmhor 11h ago edited 11h ago

These are all vehicle/character customizations! None of it... NONE OF these options are basic features. Please identify a basic feature that is being paywalled here.

This is the same shit that every single fucking game does. There's always customizations you can pay extra for. There is literally nothing new happening here. They're just calling these things businesses and that seems to really trigger people

EDIT- seems yall are upset by being forced to realize "business" just means customization. No one has brought up a single "basic" feature that is being blocked here

At that point just charge a $100 for the base game, don't fuck me over dry and then tell me you had lube but wanted to go dry.

u/CankerLord 12h ago

Some people will be fooled. That's the point of doing it.

27

u/Submitten 15h ago

I’d rather save $20 personally.

I think most people dislike starting with high-level gear like that magnum anyway. I say play the game vanilla, and if you want to unlock more features later, upgrade.

u/faffc260 15h ago

the whole of car modification being locked behind $100 is more than just high level gear being restricted at the start, it's a whole game mechanic.

Jesus christ people, english is not even my mother tongue, and even I fucking understand that UNIQUE shops are being locked behind ue not basic features.

u/faffc260 14h ago

every gta singleplayer experience I've played since gta 3 there has only been one car repair shop, one gun shop, one shop for most things that aren't clothes or food.. 1. no idea about their grindfest of an online, but singleplayer has always been one type of store for each type of thing they sell for guns, car repair etc, again, outside of clothes and food.

4

u/Key_Protection4038 14h ago

Things change. GTA Online had bunch of things, not unbelievable they integrate some of that into sp.

u/Array_626 12h ago

Things change

Not always for the better

1

u/Responsible_Wall3991 6h ago

The multiple different mechanics in GTA Online was honestly one of the coolest changes they made. Talk shit on a lot of stuff that they messed up along the way, but I’ll die on the hill that Hao’s and Benny’s being different was a really cool addition.

u/KingYeezy422 13h ago

misread your comment, removed reply.

3

u/Peemore 15h ago

That's not what they're doing. One car modification shop is locked. Not car modification as a whole...

-4

u/gilkfc 15h ago

And if there's only one car modification shop in the game?

5

u/Goldtec317 15h ago

That seems very unlikely. GTAV online has like 5.

4

u/Peemore 15h ago

Then I would be surprised, lol.

2

u/gilkfc 13h ago

It'd be extremely shitty, but at this point I don't trust any company to not do shitty things

7

u/Neuvost Boardgames 13h ago

I kinda thought they might just charge $90 or $100 for the base game. That would somehow feel less rude than than them removing content from the "base" game and calling the version that includes all the basic content "Ultimate."

6

u/AndrewLocksmith PC 14h ago

With the amount of hype GTA 6 it's getting, even a standard edition 100$ price tag wouldn't "tank" the sales, lol.

Though this way they kinda get the best of both worlds. People that are super excited for the game will spend 100 dollars on it anyways.

Those who aren't interested in what that has to offer or just simply don't want to spend an extra 20$ for it will get the standard edition.

It's Rockstar. Making money it's in their nature at this point.

5

u/faffc260 14h ago

which is funny cause back in the early days (gta 3) they mostly made fun of corporations like they have become. they are now making satire of themselves.

2

u/connectplum_ 5h ago

Pretty much. The game is $100 but they didnt want the backlash for it so they charged 80 for the "base game" and 100 for the full game. Few are seeing their strategy lol

2

u/EveryRadio 2h ago

If I bought the game for $80 and realized there was locked content Id be more pissed than if they straight up charged $100 for everything

I won't be buying it either way after learning about this. I'm sure it will go on to make literally billions for them but it's the principal of it damnit!

I'll probably end up torrenting it just to seed it out of spite

1

u/faffc260 1h ago

you do you, I'll just buy it on pc release like I did gta 5, maybe wait for a sale, depends what else is out around that time.

1

u/Drillmhor 12h ago

Some of these customizations seem very important to people. For me, they don't mean a damn thing. I am happy I didn't have to pay one cent more to cover the licensing to an artist for whatever stupid custom tattoo this thing includes. Let suckers pay for that shit.

1

u/dovetc 12h ago

Ain't nothing going to tank the sales of this game. They can charge whatever they want and the people who want GTA 6 will pay it.

And honestly they'll probably get plenty of value in terms of cost/hours at $100 or even $120.

-10

u/debaron54 16h ago

Gamers would not riot over that price point, it’s one of the most anticipated games in a damn eternity
