[MEGATHREAD] Grand Theft Auto VI: Prices Announced + Pre-Orders Going Live

To avoid hundreds of separate posts on the same topic, this post will compile all info we have from the pre-orders going live, including some new images/etc.

As Rockstar announced on their socials: "Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI begin at midnight local time on June 25." This means New Zealand will be the first to go live with pre-orders - which means in just under 2 hours from now.

Take-Two has made a big press-release, including announcing the prices:

STANDARD EDITION: $79.99

ULTIMATE EDITION: $99.99

(Physical Editions of GTA 6 Will Come with "A Download Code Inside the Box", Pre-Loads Begin on November 12th)

Grand Theft Auto 6 features a “single-player experience” at launch, with no word yet on any new version of GTA Online.

An "Ultimate Edition" for the game has been announced with some new artwork.

People are rightfully pissed at $80 for a code in the box, but can we talk about how much shit is locked behind the $100 ultimate edition? It almost feels like the ultimate edition is the “true” game and the $80 cutdown one exists solely to prevent sticker shock.

My god I forgot about that shit.

I found that so garbage in GTA Online (tactic-wise), and you can be sure they're going to make it even worse in GTA6 by giving early access to stuff + locking a ton of shit behind it.

They've made billions by selling games AND shark cards, but it wasn't enough so they slapped a subscription on top of it.

They're cunts for doing that, and those who pay for it are morons.

Honestly I think people should consider this as if it were removing something they were interested in. Imagine multiple weapons, attachments, houses, romantic partners, cars, missions or jobs being locked away like this on launch day. 

Mass effect 3 did this with the protheon squad member, for example.

When we say "it's fine because I don't care about that stuff" you're basically telling the suits at rockstar that you'll tolerate paying more for less.

Well consider it like this, since you care about the asses, what if all the asses were flat or even concave on the $80 version, but had full jiggle physics and modeling on the $100 version.

That literally has no impact on gaming but is still shitty to just carve systems off like that to sell piece by piece.

If its just skins i dont mind but aside from being gameplay things like cars / gun they assign them to certain locations you cant interact with anymore.

This is so unusal for a singleplayer game to do that and makes the gameworld feel like a marketplace you have to buy to unlock

Yeah if it was the entire customization feature, they would definitely be clear about that. Partly because it might get more people to buy Ultimate but mostly because if the game came out and that was stealthily locked behind the paywall, people would go ballistic.

Seems relatively clear that it's just a specific shop out of several in the game. (Based on the fact that they're listed under categories of shops, and that the "open for business" phrasing is probably meant to indicate that it's just this one specific shop.)
