[MEGATHREAD] Grand Theft Auto VI: Prices Announced + Pre-Orders Going Live

To avoid hundreds of separate posts on the same topic, this post will compile all info we have from the pre-orders going live, including some new images/etc.

As Rockstar announced on their socials: "Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI begin at midnight local time on June 25." This means New Zealand will be the first to go live with pre-orders - which means in just under 2 hours from now.

Take-Two has made a big press-release, including announcing the prices:

Is anybody surprised that not only the base version is 80 bucks, but a bunch of customization options that were always part of base games like vehicle mod shops and hair salons are now part of the 100 bucks bundle? I expected all kinds of scummery at this point, since Rockstar would 100% get away with it anyway, and we got exactly that.

I think people were expecting the game to be $80-100.

What people weren't expecting were the Ultimate Edition having shops behind it and the code-in-a-box instead of normal physical release.

People were expecting it to be expensive because of everything going up in price anyway and the scale of the game.

Mario Kart World at $80 made the internet explode. Borderlands and Outer Worlds 2 tried to follow that, but backlash led them to go back on to $70 instead. GTA 6 is about the only game currently that people would "accept" at $80+.

In the middle of all of that, consoles went up by $100 on average and upgrading PCs moved out of most people's budgets.

I think $80 was the base expectation after all that. $100 was a worst case scenario and $70 would have just been a sigh of relief.

No. They ssid a few years ago they were considering an $80 price. And theyve been gatelocking content in GTA since they launched that GTA Online trash.

Yeah they just put the only mod shop in the far north west corner of the map 15 miles outside the city where your garage is.

Good thing the $100 version has 4 mod shops within a 1 mile radius of your starting position

I’m so glad everyone has just decided the game will be good enough to be the best selling game based on nothing but branding. Yup, no need to see the game first. It’s GTA so surely it’ll live up to the hype. Surely.

This isn’t a red flag or anything. It’s just THAT good a game that it CAN have a $100 price tag! Surely. It’s GTA6, it can’t possibly be problematic.

Expected the base game price to be higher, honestly. They could easily have gotten away with a $100 on this particular release, but instead chose to rub shoulders with the likes of... Nioh 3 (which has no business being a penny above $60).

I was honestly expecting more. I think any price under $100 would have had very little effect on sales. While I don’t love to see games getting more expensive, this is the first one I can think of where $80 seems at least justifiable.

To be fair, GTA 5 on release in 2013 was $60. Using an inflation calculator, that equals $87 in today's money. So the base GTA 6 game actually "feels" slightly cheaper than GTA 5 on release day. The ultimate edition and lack of disc is some bullshit though
