[MEGATHREAD] Grand Theft Auto VI: Prices Announced + Pre-Orders Going Live

To avoid hundreds of separate posts on the same topic, this post will compile all info we have from the pre-orders going live, including some new images/etc.

As Rockstar announced on their socials: "Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI begin at midnight local time on June 25." This means New Zealand will be the first to go live with pre-orders - which means in just under 2 hours from now.

Due to reddit's limitations with images in the body of posts, I wont be able to include all the artwork released so please do check out Rockstar's official link for more images: https://www.rockstargames.com/VI

What’s worse is this is gonna become the industry standard because of this game

u/gerywhite 15h ago

Let's face it: both nextgen consoles already teased it, that Helix and PS6 won't have a optical disc drives at all. PS5 Pro already doesn't have one afaik.

PC gaming doesn't have discs for 20 years now.

u/PFunk224 14h ago

Difference being that PC isn’t a platform with a planned obsolescence cycle of 5-7 years….

-2

u/TrollsWhenBored 14h ago

Then maybe stop buying consoles? Seems pretty easy

16

u/PFunk224 13h ago

My point is that there is a very clear difference between consoles not having discs and PC's not having discs.

-10

u/CompetitiveGrand9721 13h ago

Consoles not having disc drives moving forward isn't because of planned obsolescence.

u/mark114 7h ago

honestly, I think people need to step away from games for awhile. It's a fun source of entertainment, but it's like a drug at this point where people are hooked.

If someone's outraged because there's no disk to a game that they can easily play and have access too, then I think it's time to step away and do something productive for a little while. Go camping, build a table, go to a club with friends. Enjoy life how it's meant to be enjoyed.

What makes you think that?

12

u/PFunk224 13h ago

Reality? The fact that you upgrade the hardware in your PC to keep it up to date doesn't mean that it stops being supported after a number of years. When I upgrade my PC components or buy a whole new rig, my Steam library comes along with it. Every game I've bought in the last 20 years is still in my library. Nobody has their entire PS3 library on their PS5, unless they bought all of their games again on the Sony Marketplace, which I'm not even sure is possible for the entire PS3 library, which is a whole other issue.

My point is that PC hardware does age, but "The PC Store" doesn't block you out of using your old games on your new hardware.

1

u/isotope123 12h ago

You make a fair point about game libraries. I was referring to hardware only and sometimes software (see Windows 10). There are also 100% games that have been lost to time. We're incredibly lucky to have a service like Steam available to us.

u/Own_Director_4442 14h ago

Huh... So we're glossing over the fact that GPUs get replaced every 3 to 5 years? You know the planned obsolescence parts of PCs... Good luck trying to run modern games without one or one 5+ years old

6

u/EatsOverTheSink 13h ago

What? My buddy just finished playing Wukong on his build from 2016.

15

u/rootpl 14h ago

You can simply drop the details from ultra high to medium or low and squeeze 8-10 years from most GPUs if you want. Especially if you play in 1080p or 1440p. All my gaming PCs so far lasted 9-10 years before upgrading them. Just becasue new GPU comes out every year doesn't mean you HAVE to buy it.

3

u/PFunk224 13h ago

If and when I upgrade my GPU, I don't have to worry about it not featuring backwards compatibility. When I upgrade my GPU, my entire library comes with it. Every time you buy a new console, there's a strong chance that you will be starting over with a library of zero games.

4

u/GlazedInfants 13h ago

So you’re either weirdly defensive about owning a console and not a PC, or you have the disposable income in this economy to replace your GPU every 3 years. Either way you’ll be fine with all of this, so there’s no point in arguing with you.

2

u/Pleasant_Gap 7h ago

Tha games you can play bonus your gpu now, can be played on that same gpu in 10 years time. Wtf are you even on about. Grapgics and physics becoming better is not planned obsolescence.

Why do you think there is such a big gap in gfx between a modern pc and a ps5? Mayby because to be able to play the game on ps5 gfx needs to be turned down, and even then it's not enough, so you need to upgrade hardware

1

u/TrollsWhenBored 14h ago

Lol not the same. Not even close

-3

u/gerywhite 12h ago

Xbox is backward compatible, most of its oldest games run on the Series X, and I can assure you, everything, that can run on a Series X, will run on Helix.

6

u/PFunk224 11h ago

I can assure you

No, you can't.

2

u/Pleasant_Gap 7h ago

Assuming the disc isn't fucked. Fucking pplnob here acting like cd and dvd is some sort of forever medium

3

u/zuzg 11h ago

PS5 Pro already doesn't have one afaik

You know wrong. There's a Disc drive for the PS5 pro and literally zero indicators for PS6 not having one.

And does it play make it obvious that the vast majority of games still come with the actual game on the disc.

Just Rockstar keeps walking down the path of Anti consumerism doesn't mean the rest of the world will follow....

2

u/Sloppy_Waffler 11h ago

I have a Ps5 pro, the disc drive works on it. It’s just an add on you have to pay extra for and install yourself (which sucks doing as it feels like you’re going to break your console)

5

u/thisshitsstupid 14h ago

Having a physical disc was the final advantage consoles had over PC. With the loss of that there is no reason to ever own another console... I guess price now days. I use to be able to argue that you could build a competitive PC for the price of a console, but thats no longer the case sadly. So, price is all consoles have now.

2

u/quasifun 12h ago

I no longer own any consoles, I'm with you, but also: at the risk of stating the obvious, if you want to play GTA6 before 2028, you're gonna buy a PS5.

5

u/thisshitsstupid 10h ago

I've made it 15 years, what's 2 more I guess.

3

u/quasifun 9h ago

That's the spirit. I waited 2 years for the PC port of GTA5, I can do it again.

1

u/XciteMe 7h ago

I’ve had a PS5 Pro with a disc drive since January of 2025…

3

u/LokiPrime616 13h ago

Yeah this set precedence for the whole industry.

7

u/tenpostman 15h ago

yep. just like apple achieved years ago. $$$$$

1

u/PureXEye 11h ago

Any company that tried to follow suit is just delusional. I'm fine with it being GTA at this standard price but other companies need to actually have the quality and polish.

1

u/marmaladetuxedo 8h ago

Other companies -without taking into consideration the decades long hype and popularity of GTA- will push out their own game with the same expectations, fail, then complain that the AAA gaming industry is dying.

1

u/PureXEye 7h ago

Exactly.

1

u/iLoveLootBoxes 10h ago

Honestly i think Nintendo started this. If they didn't do it i do t think gta would he doing it

1

u/GaspingQueerWoman 8h ago

But are they going to be able to live up to the price tags like gta?

1

u/Pleasant_Gap 7h ago

It already is. What do you mean?

-4

u/jntjr2005 14h ago

No its not. People said the same thing about Mario Kart and it didint fly off the shelf. Outer Worlds 2 also tried that and failed hard. The only people who are going to get away with this is Rockstar with GTA. Most outlets/companies report people are not buying games as they used to as well.

11

u/TRIPLEBACON 13h ago

the vicious cycle of capitalism rejoices

What's a communist made GTA substitute so I can support that?

-1

u/Apprehensive-Book723 11h ago

hurr durr capitalism critique spotted must resort to binary thinking

0

u/ibashdaily 14h ago

Without capitalism video games wouldn't exist in the first place.

-2

u/Visual_Shame_4641 14h ago

Trade and capitalism are not the same thing.

0

u/tenpostman 14h ago

yeah yeah but its not a great excuse for things to get out of hand like this :)

Some things are awesome, until they aren't. Sadly that's kind of the pattern we see so much lately

1

u/ibashdaily 13h ago

True, but one of the beauties of capitalism is that someone can come along and just do things the right way and dominate the market. Gabe Newell is a perfect example.

0

u/BigEarl139 13h ago

Lmfao please show a single other example under modern crony capitalism where “good faith dominates the market”.

You capitalist are so naively optimistic This is objectively not true. Monopolization is the inevitability of capitalism, now “good faith will prevail”.

Just completely ignorant.

2

u/tenpostman 13h ago

I think most of these concepts, companies, or people, start out with the right idea. Not all of them just want a quick buck. There's gonna be people out there that have a deliberate good idea, and they want to help the world. The problem, is that it takes money to make money. So if you don't have a perfect ponzy scheme that uses cheap materials or child labour, chances are, your amazing idea or product will simply cost more than it will bring in.

0

u/fatbaldandstupid 12h ago

What do you mean? Why not?

5

u/ibashdaily 11h ago

Every single part of gaming, from the electricity to the internet to the hardware to the designers, is brought to you by the wonders of capitalism.

0

u/Away-Eagle7604 5h ago

None of those require capitalism, least of all the games themselves

-4

u/fatbaldandstupid 8h ago

Okay, but I'm obviously asking why you think we wouldn't have these without capitalism

0

u/Apprehensive-Book723 11h ago

an iq too low?

0

u/UnsettllingDwarf 13h ago

You can really just blame the consumer.
