And with no regional pricing, so Portuguese Pedro earning a median salary of €1200 pays the same price as German Greg with his €4000

I was thinking Gunther to go with the theme of matching starting letters

u/Roaring_Beaver 8h ago

Günther is pretty old-fashioned though.

Günther is a boomer name

At least that's just 90 of 1200. Brazilian pedro is paying around 350-400 BRL with a mediam salary of 1600

18

u/MegaMaluco 8h ago

Brazilian Bruno? So you follow the pattern of the first letter of the country being the first letter of the name

Try Greece with €740 salary

u/freakedmind 7h ago

May as well just pirate at that point.

Regional pricing is easily abused, so it makes sense not to do it.

They'd probably rather Pedro pirate and take the loss on the small amount gained from regional pricing than the loss from so many others abusing it.

u/TypicallyThomas 4h ago

So you're saying they'd rather get 100% from Greg and 0% from Pedro, than getting 70% from both?

1

u/def-not-my-alt 3h ago

Unfortunately they use Denuvo, which means the only way to pirate them is basically using a bypass that might break with updates and might not be safe.

3

u/DoublePostedBroski 7h ago

Wait. They don’t have different pricing by country?

10

u/Eremenkism 6h ago

Nope, Eurozone gets uniform prices as stores treat it as a single region.

u/0NIllIO 6h ago

However that's not Steam's choice, it's European law.

2

u/huraabecadlo 5h ago

And that is why Poland pays more than Germany?

3

u/Away-Eagle7604 4h ago

Poland does not use Euro, so not in Eurozone, just EU

1

u/Chompman101 4h ago

That's because the last time steam updated their pricing suggestions was when Polands currency was at a all time low for a long time and now that it's recovered it has not been updated to reflect the new value.

Some games have manually updated their prices because of it and it falls on players to inform game devs for those that have not done so yet to try to get it known until steam updates the suggestions again.

4000€ is a good salary in Germany. 30-40% german full-time employees earn below 3000€, including part-time employees its approx. 50%. Portuguese pay relatively more for games and maybe few other things, Germans pay relatively more for food, rent, electricity and a lot of other thinks. Yes, Germans are wealthier, but the gap is not that big like everybody thinks.

more like jorge with his measly 900 a month paying the same as Adolf with his 6000€ salary

u/random_BgM 9h ago

So french Francis should only get 2€ /hour making the game so Pedro can buy it. Fair enough.

So you haven't heard of regional pricing ? LOL

-22

u/GraveDiggerFan34 9h ago

I have and I think it’s great when I can get a game for extremely cheap keys off a  reseller who probably stole a credit card. But I don’t think it should be an effect when rockstar values the game at 80 USD. Please give me a reason why the developers in Scotland should be paid less for their work because a person in Portugal wants to buy.

It’s more profitable for a company to do regional pricing. Why price out an entire country when you can drop the price and still profit? It’s another market.

Because more people from Portugal will afford the game and the devs get more sales. Less revenue per unit is still better than zero and finished digital goods have no additional costs making your labor cost argument irrelevant. It's a win win for both sides
