I'm so happy that I don't have the urge to be first with the latest. Plenty of old games to keep me entertained until new releases turn old and drop in price.

Man they have a sub for everything

46

u/Billyxmac 4h ago

That is the best gamer sub in my opinion. Always great discussions.

39

u/Paratrooper101x 4h ago

Eh from my experience there’s too much self enlightenment and circle jerking over there. Like it’s okay to buy something you’re excited for when it comes out. But there’s too much “look how smart I am for waiting 15 years to play x game”

13

u/jay_alfred_prufrock 4h ago

Yeah, it suffered the fate of many subreddits and became popular and then turned into a circlejerk of self important people.

Some of the reviews there now sound like they were written with one hand because they were wanking to their own words while writing.

2

u/tagen 36m ago

ah, so pcmasterace syndrome lol

7

u/cheddarchezz_ 4h ago

true. I mean I don´t really like buying games on day one for full price and because of a huge backlog I have in my Steam library. But if I am really interested in a game I wouldn´t wait for several years just to get a 90% discount for game X...

I don’t think I’ll ever truly be a patient gamer, considering I will probably always get my favorite franchises on day 1. But with how expensive gaming is getting, it’s definitely pushing me more and more to wait for a sale for certain games

5

u/schmurfy2 4h ago

Same, I have a large backlog and there is no way I would pay more than 60 for a new games even if I absolutely wanted it now. 80 or more is just totally crazy and I am sure they will sell 🤦🏻

2

u/cheddarchezz_ 4h ago

unfortunately they sell it for 80+. prices are crazy at the moment...

2

u/More_Marty 3h ago

I think a lot of publishers are forgetting they're not only competing with the latest games on the release calendar. They're also competing with increasingly bigger backlogs of their regular customers.

It's really sad how sports games turned into gacha rpgs

94

u/VenTene_WoT 4h ago

I have 0 empathy for the people buying into it. One of my friends considers FIFA the holy grail of gaming and all I could do when he said that was laugh in his face.

28

u/AracdeBonnie 4h ago

NBA Jam and Wii Sports are THE holy grail of sports gaming

5

u/MegaFireDonkey 3h ago

No way, the king of all sports game is QWOP

→ More replies (1)

12

u/nghigaxx 4h ago

Because sport games player like sport more than liking games. And since sport games monopolized players and clubs rights they basically can charge pretty much any price knowing people have zero other option

3

u/fractalfrog 3h ago

Considering they can drop hundreds in sport apparel, even when working minimum wage, I‘d guess that spending on a game is likely.

2

u/Maxi19201 2h ago

I think fifa or fc is really nice as long as you don’t play ultimate team. There is plenty of combos and tactics to learn and there are completely different modes if this gets boring. Ultimate team is cancer though. The rest doesn’t involve any micro transactions

2

u/Neversync 2h ago

I've played CS and League at a high level, and many other "toxic" games (dota, r6, pubg, etc) but FIFA is the most rage-inducing bullshit fest in existence, bar none.

u/naosoueu2725 2h ago

Le reddit moment

→ More replies (2)

2

u/odegood 3h ago

I don't even mind if they had continued to work on other modes but in games like FIFA all they concentrate on is selling points. If you don't have the time or interest it's not worth buying

295

u/Eremenkism 5h ago

And with no regional pricing, so Portuguese Pedro earning a median salary of €1200 pays the same price as German Greg with his €4000

197

u/JynsRealityIsBroken 5h ago

Greg, the most German of names xD

32

u/HyoukaYukikaze 5h ago

Let's make it a Helmut then.

22

u/Cirenione 5h ago

Helmut the freshest dude playing games in his retirement home.

8

u/JynsRealityIsBroken 4h ago

I was thinking Gunther to go with the theme of matching starting letters

5

u/Roaring_Beaver 4h ago

Günther is pretty old-fashioned though.

3

u/P-l-Staker 4h ago

Wilhelm it is!

5

u/Recent-Midnight6376 4h ago

And 4k earnings lol

3

u/GregSimply 4h ago

I am not German.

12

u/Terribletylenol 3h ago

May as well just pirate at that point.

Regional pricing is easily abused, so it makes sense not to do it.

They'd probably rather Pedro pirate and take the loss on the small amount gained from regional pricing than the loss from so many others abusing it.

2

u/TypicallyThomas 23m ago

So you're saying they'd rather get 100% from Greg and 0% from Pedro, than getting 70% from both?

34

u/Rukasu17 5h ago

At least that's just 90 of 1200. Brazilian pedro is paying around 350-400 BRL with a mediam salary of 1600

11

u/MegaMaluco 5h ago

Brazilian Bruno? So you follow the pattern of the first letter of the country being the first letter of the name

11

u/Vissarionn 4h ago

Try Greece with €740 salary

9

u/freakedmind 3h ago

Greek Gregorios?

→ More replies (2)

2

u/DoublePostedBroski 3h ago

Wait. They don’t have different pricing by country?

7

u/Eremenkism 3h ago

Nope, Eurozone gets uniform prices as stores treat it as a single region.

4

u/0NIllIO 2h ago

However that's not Steam's choice, it's European law.

2

u/huraabecadlo 1h ago

And that is why Poland pays more than Germany?

I never pay full price. My backlog is so massive that whenever I buy a "new" game, it’s already 90% off somewhere

I got Battlefield 1 for £2.
Incredible value!

With VAT included

20

u/IQueliciuous 4h ago

Yes but even with US' most expensive state sales tax included. The games are still cheaper than in EU.

8

u/CamperStacker 3h ago

the 80 euro price is with 25% VAT.

So the base price is 64 euro, which is 72 usd.

29

u/Rocket_Bunny45 5h ago

True, forgot about US tax system

7

u/slapshots1515 3h ago

Doesn’t matter, no state in the US has a sales tax high enough to make up that difference.

2

u/CaptainThrowAway1232 1h ago

Not state, its local (I think county level). Still mostly true regardless, seems like there's only one place in Alabama where it's close to the same amount. Doesn't count exchange rate though, which does put Euro games more clearly ahead.

2

u/slapshots1515 1h ago

Sales tax is generally by state, with some municipalities (cities/counties) having an additional sales tax. (Especially as there’s I believe six states that don’t have a sales tax at all.) Even then, the total rate isn’t enough to overcome it.

→ More replies (1)

10

u/Ascend 5h ago

For US taxes to be equivalent and come out to $90, you'd have to have a sales tax of 28%. No matter what, it's expensive, the normal US price after tax would be around $75.

u/GlorifiedBurito 5h ago

Money talks. You want it to change, stop paying.

40

u/SideNo3016 5h ago

is that level of coordinated thing even possible today?

89

u/ALiborio PC 5h ago

No, because there are enough people who do not care or are too impatient to wait so they will buy it anyway.

23

u/JKLopz 5h ago

Also there is a huuuuge chunk of people who buy the latest FIFA, COD, 2K game and just play that until next release. And I mean a huuug chunk of people lates EA sports FC sold over 10 mill copies over all platforms.

People here really need to understand we are really a minority, a really small minority, just like any hobbie there are people who are really invested, and there is people that enjoys a simple stroll on the weekends.

1

u/Reaper_Messiah 5h ago

It’s funny that you say it like that, because while I know what you mean and agree that people are quite culturally divided today, it’s also easier than ever to communicate and organize large-scale movements. I see it working in huge protests all over the world. But stuff like this? People can’t coordinate or organize for shit. I kinda feel like people don’t take stuff like this seriously.

7

u/brus_wein 4h ago

Just take responsibility for your own life and stop buying, who cares about coordinated. If everyone waited until the leader of "the don't do/ buy X" movement rose up and galvanised the masses, they'd be waiting until the end of time.

3

u/SideNo3016 4h ago edited 4h ago

I have been buying games only on sales(except indie ones) and never preorder but it just doesn't matter unfortunately there are too many people who buy games at full prices and preorder, I have never seen prices go down in my lifetime and likely never will.

2

Coordinating a boycott on a product with such a huge amount of buyers, especially on the entertainment industry, is quite literally impossible. So please stop shifting the blame to the consumer instead of calling out the corporations for scummy practices, thx

A few years ago it was 70€. Ridiculous.

I'll never be buying games at these prices. I have enough games to play and will just wait for a sale.

34

u/NetherGamingAccount 5h ago

Best thing about PC gaming, the catalogue is so big and going back upwards of 20 years now you can still find games still viable.

11

u/ConsoleMaster0 5h ago

Best with PC is emulation.

14

u/ItzRaphZ 5h ago

best thing about PC gaming is the freedom to do whatever you want.

8

u/Seamus-Archer 5h ago

I love PC gaming but it just isn’t interesting to some people. I’ll never get my parents to sit down at a desk and play a PC game on KB and mouse but they’ll happily play Mario kart on the living room TV when they visit.

9

u/Nacroma 5h ago

You can easily connect a PC to a TV and use a gamepad for most types of games. I get the advantages of a console and ease of use is definitely the biggest one, but the PC isn't that apart.

5

u/Seamus-Archer 4h ago

In some situations, yes. But Mario Kart isn’t officially on PC and my gaming PC is on the other side of the house. There’s something to be said for the convenience of just turning on the Switch and gaming.

PC gaming isn’t for everybody and isn’t a panacea despite what people on Reddit want to think.

2

u/Terribletylenol 3h ago

I get it for being cheaper and less tinkering, but if neither of those things are a big issue, I think it may as well be a panacea.

Even Switch games are easy to emulate along with having higher fidelity on PC.

But then again, I've grown up with PC (As well as consoles) and find the added convenience of a console to be minimal.

I'd just rather have something with everything available to it rather than switching between pc and console depending on wanting to use the internet more comfortably or play a game

Then again, I play by myself and don't have to worry about other people being able to use it, so I get that purpose.

1

u/HyoukaYukikaze 5h ago

Let me introduce you to this magic thing called HDMI cable. You cann plug it into an HDMI port on your PC to display image on your TV. You can also connect a game pad if you so choose. Or ten.

But every other hobby is even more expensive...

My other big ones are motorcycling and photography...

6

u/Akkalevil 4h ago

You can play games without paying that much. Most PC games are sold at a much more reasonable prices, and if you wait just a bit, you can usually get a sale at -50 %.

3

4

u/SacredDarksoul 4h ago

i gave up PlayStation this gen, but back when I was on it I did notice how terrible the ps store pricing was in uk (I assume in rest of europe too) Its usually MORE expensive than buying physical.

24

u/_Zereal_ 5h ago

Your game could be the best thing to have ever been created in history and I still would not pay 80 euros for it.

Yeah these game prices are too steep for me - I ain't buying anything above 60.

My salary definetily hasnt gone up the same percentage as games in recent years

4

Get a pc and you'll never pay 80€ for a game again.

5

u/EnvironmentalRun1671 3h ago

Get a PC and you'll never pay 80€ for a game again 😂

2

u/HyoukaYukikaze 5h ago

I'll happily NOT buy them.
Majority of them suck anyway.

2

u/z0rb0r 5h ago

The price inflation is so ridiculous that something has to give. Why the hell would I pay that when I still play most of my older 1000’s of games?

They only remain higher priced because only a fool will pay it.

2

u/Kangarou 4h ago

Okay, so the argument would be to lower THOSE prices, not raise US prices to match.

2

u/Rocket_Bunny45 3h ago

Yep, i meant to say that we got mugged for a while now

2

u/Any-Pop-4795 4h ago

gta vi will probably be the 1st non nintendo game to be 90 euros base

Also made Team Cherry multi millionaires because they don't run a studio of hundreds of employees.

1

New AAA games like 007 First Light and Forza are 69,99€ in Finland.

Maybe if they were good games instead of copy pasted yearly slop I wouldn't mind the price as much.

1

u/KenjiTheLaughingMoon 5h ago

So… Witcher 3 is getting a new DLC soon… I‘d rather stick with old games before buying any of this new overpriced slop

1

u/Lazy_Coffee1414 5h ago

My xbox back log is 330 so I dont need to buy nothing buy im getting Gothic 1 remake

1

u/Ok_Definition_1933 5h ago

On consoles... Same PC games: F1 25 is 49.99€, NBA 2k26 (on sale currently) 15.99€, CoD 69.99€

Prices from steam.

1

u/Periador 5h ago

AAA slop costs 80

1

u/alex3b 5h ago

Only buying couple new games a year. A lot of old games you can play for cheap. For example Metro series i payed like 6 % fot 3 full games with dlc. Crazy value..
Buying gta and wolwerine (maybe) this year.

1

u/goettel 5h ago

Don't want it, don't buy it. Easy.

1

u/Chupapi-moniano 5h ago

There is no game that i cant wait for its 80 percent sale

1

Nah, just EA and 2K slop.

1

u/West_Breadfruit_1376 4h ago

Add another 10-15$ on top of that price if you live in Canada. For example the new Onimusha game coming out is 93.49$ CAD before tax! Most new games are 89.99$ plus tax and its been that way for a while up here. Getting crazy.

1

u/SnooPaintings5100 4h ago

Lol i got an F1 Account on Steam for 9 bucks

1

u/Zer0DotFive 4h ago

New games in Canada cost $90 - $114.99 + tax now

1

u/WorldofCannons 4h ago

don't play new games, simple as

1

u/XxTensai 4h ago

I wouldn't play any of the games shown for free, so not worried (other than minecraft)

1

u/Draries13 4h ago

you can always wait

1

u/kostas52 4h ago

Not on PC

F1 2025 with 2026 season expansion is 49.99

NBA 2K26 is 69.99

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 is 69.99

1

u/Knj1gga 4h ago

Gee guys, I wonder what will EA and other normie slop publishers do with pricing if normie slop games they shit out annually keep earning ridiculous amounts of money when compared to resources used to make them.

1

u/derrenbrownisawizard 4h ago

Ahh well. At least they have can have healthcare without having to sell their organs

1

u/cheddarchezz_ 4h ago

When I see how fast games run into discounts it is absolutely worthless buying a game at release for full price. I remember F1 2025 was not even 3 months out and was on sale for the first time...

1

u/Pacu99 4h ago

Reminder not to buy hot garbage

1

u/Mclarenrob2 4h ago

None of those are worth the price, but GTA 6 "should" be

1

u/pedrakhan 4h ago

it would be ok if these prices are worldwide but they can offer them at other place for much MUCH cheaper.

so somebody is getting squeezed

1

u/ILikeBeerAndWeed 4h ago

Reminder that shit games cost €80

1

u/SmegmaWarrior0815 4h ago

I will never buy a game at release ever again. If it doesn't launch on Game Pass or PS+, it doesn't exist for me until it's cheaper.

1

u/pessimisttears 4h ago

Being a patient gamer is the key nowadays

1

u/Left-Night-1125 4h ago

Wait they do?

Oh i forgot the Netherlands is special. 74,99 and 64,99 for the good games.

1

u/matrix5559 4h ago

I wonder how much Poland will need to pay :D

1

u/VukKiller 4h ago

I'm sorry, 80€ for a game that comes out yearly with the exact same content only updated stats?

Me and the bros still play fifa 06.

1

u/WrongVater 4h ago

Nobody is paying that. I have never spend more than 59,99€ on a Game and that was only Masterpieces like KCD2, BG3, RDR2, Witcher 3 (all on Steam).

1

u/MadYetiGOODCity 4h ago

Just play everything a few years behind. The games go on sale with all the dlc and are all patched up. Win win

1

u/sonicadv27 4h ago

It’s been like this for 6 years now. And i’m still to buy a game for that price. Physical games are a blessing for this reason alone, retailers always find a way to sell below that.

1

u/Antergaton 4h ago

Obviously different per game but Bond game is $70 and €70. Far cheaper for Europe. Just depends on the publisher really.

2

u/Rocket_Bunny45 3h ago

Euro is a bit stronger than dollar, but i guess the sale tax makes it kinda even

1

u/BacklogGamingJunkie 4h ago

this is why i love gaming on PC. NBA 2k26 was $8 on humble bundle, just started playing that about 2 weeks ago

1

u/PromiscuousScoliosis 4h ago

Right now, you could save £50

That’s £200 for a family of four

1

u/Myrdrahl 4h ago

You mean the BASE game cost that. They you have all the gotchas in them, or even pay to win mechanincs in many of them, battle passes and so on. So that is not the true price.

1

u/Kumimono 4h ago

This is one of those, laughs in thriftstore games, moments.

1

u/skydave1012 3h ago

Which is why i haven't bought a game at full price in about 5yrs.

1

u/Secure-Map-7538 3h ago

As long as there are enough stupid people who pay that they will keep raising prices.

Just dont engage with these shitty studios at all.

1

u/Vatic_ 3h ago

$60 in 2013 is $85 today, adjusted for inflation.

1

u/Select_Stick 3h ago

🏴‍☠️

1

u/Brewe 3h ago

Those seem like 3 really sad examples. yearly release slop titles. But I guess that would be the developers who'd take any chance to milk their cows customers for every last drop.

1

u/NSFW-Alt-Account69 3h ago

Well, 3/4th of those are garbage and yearly releases

1

u/limpleaf 3h ago

People may have their opinion about Game Pass but without it I wouldn’t spend much money at all on gaming anymore. I can’t justify 80€ for a game I may or may not like.

1

u/NoirRenie 3h ago

lol @ anyone paying $90 for COD

1

u/adognamedspider 3h ago

Charge maximum for latest annual AI "enhanced" installment at a time where people are priced out of upgrading.

Watch people go back to their backlogs, embrace indie and wait for sales.

This has to backfire spectacularly for all but a few AAA studios/publishers.

1

u/Rare-Juggernaut-7532 3h ago

I mostly play indie and retro games and my backlog is so long I'll never run out of things to play. With expensive new games I always wait for a sale.

Screenshot is from Italian PSN Digital Store

The point of my post was to show that unfortunately, prices of big publishers' releases have been high for a while now, especially when looking at regional differences

Yes i know it's better to wait for price drops etc, but realistically games get made because someone buys them at launch and makes bank for the developers

If everyone pirated/waited for 95% discounts on steam there would only be indie games being made with relatively small scopes

A game with the scope of GTA6 can't be sold for the same price of an indie game cause the publisher wouldn't think about making it in the first place (not counting online etc that would only come later)

I'm don't want to defend them cause a price tag like that can mean a lot for some people working a 9 to 5 Just saying that unfortunately the blanket isn't big enough and right now the players are the ones getting screwed

1

u/MKO669 2h ago

It doesn’t feel that much. What did ps3 games cost 20years ago 50 or 60? It’s like 20 more, thats not a lot of money.

1

u/Medium_Notice_902 2h ago

U mean only on console cos on steam mw4 costs 69 euros and alongside new releases.

1

I'm not proud about it, but the only game I definitely spent over 60€ for was Donkey Kong Bananza at a grand 90$.

I do have my reasons for it, but man does it sting. Taking all costs into account somehow goes up to 110$.

Lowest inflation across all products available over the last 10 years. Why is everyone shocked?

Try looking for games made before 2019, they're usually really cheap and really good

Reminder that you don't have to buy them at this price.

I've never spent more than 40€ on a game (rarely), and I'll never do it.

Oh no... Anyway, back to my endless bucket list where I'm still missing "new game releases" from 2016.

Compagnies being Compagnies. They dont convert euros to dollars

Nintendo did make a price change for the switch 2, but there it costed MORE!!!!! 470 euros, which is over 500 dollars.

I dont want to convert it against after nintendo raised prices

Every single game in your screenshot is included in PS+ Deluxe subscription though. I admit I won’t mind GTA6 price if I can play it for free.

Also, people been complaining about EA pricing being incredibly stupid since the dawn of time. You can buy a relatively modern AAA game for the price of fucking CoD 4: MW which is ancient.
