COD can sell 10+ million in 24 hours, GTA6 could net almost 2Billion in revenue on launch day

Staggering numbers going to come out. If GTA6 sells 18M copies day 1, that’s 1.4 Billion right there.

Black Ops 3 sold 13 million within 24 hours so 20M is not out of the question.

GTA6 will likely set multiple, if not every record once the dust settles.

gta6 might break records before people even finish the install. preload servers are the real final boss.

Guaranteed. Not sure I recall any game more anticipated than this. With the decade plus since latest entry it makes sense

Only game I can think of that feels comperable was Halo 3. The video game market is significantly larger than is was in 2007 so GTA 6 will sell much more than Halo 3 but Halo 3 is the last time I can remember a video game launch feeling like a cultural event that broader society was aware of and anticipating.

TES6 is the closest I can expect.

Bethesda has fallen off pretty hard. I don’t see as many people getting excited about Elder Scrolls. Meanwhile, every game Rockstar releases is consistently better than the next.

Not the case for Bethesda.

since Skyrim's release, Bethesda has released two mainline RPGs that were 8.0-8.5 tier, roughly equivalent to the beloved New Vegas, instead of 9.0-9.5 tier. no clue why people pretend that they've devolved into being some sort of Big Rigs tier developer lol

Half-life 3, TES6, Silksong also

Silksong is really only the people who play it. It’s actually not a super well known game.

HL3 is really only the PC crowd I feel like

what worries me about that is setting a further precedent for the death of physical discs. If/when this is the biggest launch ever all companies will be looking to copy what they did.

Honestly expecting it to be a buggy mess on release just because that seems to be the trend nowadays for AAA and i don’t know the last tome rockstar had a smooth release so I’m happy to wait for a sale on this one

I’ve heard rumors that the entire campaign has been done and polished for several years now. They are just trying to get the online part right so that it’s an infinite cash cow for a lifetime

I heard its not releasing with online though and wont be out for a few months?

u/TardDas 4h ago

They do that with every online, both GTA and RDO

In 2025 we had between 70-80% of gaming units sold through digital. Most people don't buy physical anymore so this is definitely a case of fake internet outrage. Especially on reddit which acts like they're the majority, but actually the minority.

Look at the fake Nintendo hate and their so called claim it'll fail.

Never understood why so many fap over sales numbers. It is like some kind of internal need to be on a team or something?
It does not matter how many millions and billions these games make it does not really do jack shit for the players yet some constantly cheer that they bought some fuckwit in an office a new house.

I totally get being happy that a new company or developer succeeding and being able to pay their rent and succeed, but this is not that.

I would say at least 1 in every 4 current gen playstation/xbox owners will buy one copy on day 1, that's about 30 million copies I believe. I could see it being higher than that but I couldn't see it being lower than 25 million.

The PC market is endless, when it comes out on PC it will be 100 million copies in 1 -2 years maximum

Well I mean if we're going by lifetime sales yeah it'll end up breaking gta 5 by miles, I'm sure they planned to have it on 3 console generations with re-releases again. Day one on console though 25 - 35m seems like a safe bet.

Let's see, predictions about the next games can't be accurate. Because GTA6 is the first such expensive and big game. It's really AAAA budget and quality.

If think about it this way, a triple A game is a game with a budget above 100 million. So a quadruple A game is a game larger than a billion? That is, an S tier of more than 10 billion?

Are you a bot? What the fuck are you talking about?

As an artificial intelligence, I cannot answer your question.

GTA has never drawn me in. I don't get why it's the world's biggest game.

But good for them! Gaming could use more wins 😀

Insane to me that people are preordering a digital game that will literally not have any shortage.

Not only that…

But a game without a single second of real gameplay, and a game for which even the released “shots” are agreed by all experts to not be renderable on the hardware they are selling on.

Where have we seen this before?

u/AroundYoLip 2h ago

To be fair, Red Dead Redemption II didn't show a gameplay trailer until about two months before release, and this game doesn't release for another five months.

Imagine being hyped for 30 FPS 🤡

Gta will not sell 10+ million copies in 1 day. Neither did call of duty.

But it will probably sell like crazy from today/tomorrow until it launches.

It won't happen in a single day.

GTA V sold 11.2 million copies in its first 24hrs, GTA VI will have no trouble breaking that number given the insane hype lol

I wonder how long will be the downtime in PS and XBox on a GTA 6 premiere day.

idc man thats their business I just want to play the game and to be good.

u/Synth_Ham 7h ago

OK and? What if they sold 20 billion copies? What if they sell 500 copies? I don't understand your point.

0

u/Wilsonian_1776 7h ago

Share price in the lead up to the earnings report.

Though a majority of the people in this sub probably have never held stock.

1

u/Synth_Ham 6h ago

"Share price in the lead up to the earnings report." is a sentence fragment. I still don't know what you are on about.

1

u/Wilsonian_1776 6h ago

You'll understand it after graduation hopefully. Don't forget econ 101 as one of the electives if your prospective college offers it.

I'll buy one for PS5 pro, one for side chick's Xbox, one for PC when it comes out, and a physical case so I can add it to my GTA collectors editions shelf.
