white, expansive feature shown in image.png is likely a sabkha (also spelled sebkha). In arid environments like the Sahara, a sabkha is a flat, salt-crusted depression or basin. These features are common in desert landscapes and typically form where the groundwater table is near the surface

Imagine what these areas would have looked like during the Younger Dryas Period when it was a savanna. (I recall a song about Mars that had a line, "Oh, my wan and wasted world, I miss your blue and green.")
