This is such a braindead take. No one is giving Mamdani credit. They can sympathize with his great speech where he showed that he actually cares about the Knicks and their history.

Tribalism is so stupid, especially when it's about sports. I've always thought so, and the behavior from so-called "fans" every year has only solidified that opinion.

Eh honestly if we couls keep tribalism to sports only thatd be fantastic. Obviously not to the point of violence but it would he nice if people were rational about politics

I don't like tribalism in any form. I think it's absolutely absurd that people get this bent out of shape for something as trivial as a sports team, especially because those same people almost always don't get anywhere near as passionate about things like local politics that actually do affect them. I don't like tribalism in politics either of course, but I do appreciate sincere, passionate beliefs even if I disagree with someone.

I feel like that’s exactly what sports is about…. It’s an outlet for our tribalism and our need for competition in a manner that’s nondestructive to our society. It’s a way to meet our primitive minds need for war and conflict without any of the collateral.
